Vehicle Detail

This is my 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230SL, in exceptionally good original, rust free condition. Are you looking for a fabulous, original SL? This car still wears its original DB268 Blaugrun factory paint, as well as its original tan Mercedes Tex interior, and tan carpets. It is probably the straightest, most original rust free 230SL, 250SL or 280SL Pagoda that you will ever see. It has a 4 speed manual transmission, period Blaupunkt LMU (am/fm) radio, early hubcaps and trim rings. A rear fog light has been added, which can easily be removed. The euro headlights have the foglight integrated in the lower section. This car includes the optional rear third jump seat tucked sideways behind the front seat, or if you prefer a carpeted lower panel is available instead. The original seats and door panels are in excellent condition except for a couple of small tears at the front edge of the driver’s seat. There is some discoloration to the Tex above the instruments. The woodwork is in excellent condition. The carpets are faded but in great condition with no tears, or wear areas, as are the original rubber floormats, and rubber trunk mats. The Chrome is very good as are the rubber seals. It looks like the rubber seals have been replaced. It appears that all work was done with factory parts. The body is in excellent condition. The floors and fenderwells are in excellent condition with undercoating in great condition. There are no rust holes, and no repairs on the floors or rockers. The fender lips are excellent and solid, as is the trunk floor. The rockers are excellent. There are two dents in the floor at the edge of the right front wheelwell, from rocks that were thrown up by the wheel. One of these shows some minor rust behind the right front wheel. This is the worst spot on the car. The left rear fender was re-painted at some time probably due to a minor scrape. The rest of the car has incredibly survived 50 years with its factory original paintwork, which is still in excellent condition, save for a few spots at the lower edges where the paint has peeled. Both roofs are included. The more you look at this car the better it looks. Gold dual stick-on pinstripes were added at the beltline, sometime in the middle of the car's life, and can likely be removed with gentle heat from a heatgun. There are a few stone chip touch ups. There is a very small parking lot dent in the passenger door, one in the top edge of the driver’s door, and another on the front right corner of the engine cover (hood) which should be easy to smooth out. All of the factory welds are correct, as well as the headlight dimples, and all paint under the hood is original and in excellent condition. The two plastic covers at the front suspension mounts are present and correct. The car shows 51,372 kilometers on the odometer. I have the full history file dating back to 1984. The car had 11,000 kilometers showing in 1984. It is possible that the real mileage is 151,372 kilometers, but I do not know either way. The condition of the car is more suggestive of the lower mileage. The car has just received new Bilstein shock absorbers, new brake master cylinder, new clutch master and slave cylinders, new hoses for the radiator and heater lines, and new fluids. The engine has just been tuned up with new plugs, points, cap and rotor and it runs beautifully. The transmission shifts well. The car drives very well. You could fly in and happily drive this car home. It rides on Michelin 185-14 MX4 tires in good condition with plenty of tread remaining. The brake wheel cylinders, hoses, shoes, pads and booster were replaced in 1991. Plenty of brake pad remains. The VIN is 11304210006086. The car was originally delivered in Europe (I believe to Belgium) and was imported to England by a dealer in 1984. An English gentleman, Mr. L purchased the vehicle in London in 1984 and subsequently brought the car to New York State when he moved. In 1991 it was purchased by Mr. S of Ohio, who subsequently brought the car with him to Canada, where it is presently located. I have all of the documents showing that it was registered in England, USA and Canada. It should be easy to register this car wherever you are. The car can be viewed about 1 hour west of Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). I am happy to assist with worldwide shipping at your cost. Payment must be made by wire transfer. This car is absolutely ready to use and enjoy as an excellent driver car today, or it would be the perfect base vehicle if you wish to have the absolutely best 230SL restoration. It may be a candidate for a concours preservation class. This car is for sale locally (and internationally), and I reserve the right to end this auction early if the car is sold locally. I had to re-list this car because a bug in the listing software wiped out the VIN number and title on the last listing, which is why it didn’t show up in the searches. Come and see this car. You will not be disappointed. If you are interested please put in your best bid early, as there are a lot of people who have shown interest in this car and it may sell quickly. I also have a pair of mint 280SL manual transmission cars available if you prefer that model. Please email or call Andrew on 1-519-279-9014 with any questions or to arrange a viewing.
