Vehicle Detail
I've decided to sell my cool "old school" Classic 1972 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. I bought this one to restore fully but feeding my family is more important right now. My loss can be your gain. It's gotta go. I placed a modest reserve on the car as well as a buy it now option. This is a very nice, mostly original survivor car that came out of an estate. It was garaged most of it's life and it really shows the care. It is striking to see the contrasting white top and high back sofa like seats against the gray metallic paint and all the chrome trim. This was built back when they really knew how to make a luxury car. Think about how hard it is to just find one......Looking at it, I find it hard to believe that it is now 40 years old. It qualifies for historical tags here in Ohio. I am going to "over describe" the car based on what I know about it so there will be no surprises later. Ask any questions and I will reply ASAP. I bought it from the son of the original owner. I have only owned it for about 3 months. When I bought it, the brakes were not working. I replaced the rear wheel cylinders and front brake calipers as well as most of the steel brake lines under the car. The pads, shoes, drums and rotors were all fine. I have only driven it about 30 to 50 miles since doing that work. It is an Ohio car and it has been exposed to driving in snow and salt. I felt more comfortable replacing the lines so that issue would not be a pending potential problem. There is some surface rust under the car but still appears structurally sound and quite good shape for an Ohio car. The car has not been on the road much since 2007 and was stored inside all but about a year before I bought it. Supposedly the son drove it up and down the drive every month but did not maintain the insurance and registration, so it mostly just sat. I think the fuel is old. I added 10 gallons of fresh premium gas and a bottle of octane boost / drier to it but just haven't driven it all out of the car yet. It is cold natured and needs to warm up before driving but seems to run fine and the transmission shifts good. Might need tuned up and the carbureator cleaned out to be 100 percent perfect. I don't think there are any major problems with the drive train. It does not smoke, tick, knock or ping. It will leave a couple small oil drips when parked but that's probably only valve cover seepage. It does not overheat or leak any coolant. I would recommend that it not be driven more than say 50 miles from here after purchase as there are too many unknowns with a car that has been stored and not driven regularly. I know it will need some additional maintenance before I would trust it on a 500 mile trek in the winter. The car is located in zip code 43031 which is Johnstown, Ohio. It is about 20 miles east / northeast of Columbus. I know just how hard it is to find a Classic Caddy Coupe let alone one in this beautiful color and condition with low original mileage. It has only 79,000 original miles on it and has many new parts installed on it. New Battery, New Exhaust, New Tires , New shocks, New Brake lines, New Rear wheel cylinders and New Front Brake Calipers, New hood insulation and much more. The car was repainted several years ago in the original color of Mayfair Gray Metallic (light charcoal) and was done with a base coat / clear coat. There are no rust holes or dents and the body is very straight. I have found no evidence of collision damage. It was repainted due to the common bottom of front fender rust problem and age. I was assured that the the bad metal was all cut out and the repair was done well with metal welded back in the bad spots. Overall it is a very nice "driver quality" paint job but not a "show car" or restoration finish. It will last a very long time as is but I would re do it in a couple of years to suit my taste. It wouldn't require much (if any) body type work at all. Mainly for my taste, the small details are a bit lower quality than I prefer. It is still very sharp and shiny but does have a few small chips and touch-up spots as you would expect for a car of this vintage. Looks almost like new from 10 feet away (see pics) . All the chrome is very nice and the Original White vinyl top is also very nice. All the power windows / locks work great and there are no marks in any of the glass. When the repaint was done they removed the upper rocker chrome trim at the bottom of the front fenders and both sides are missing. I have located them on eBay for around $75 each and just can't afford to replace them at this time. The car has a loaded extremely comfy White leather and vinyl interior with extra nice black carpeting and a black dashboard. There is very little wear inside and no cracks on the dash. The drivers door armrest had a small elbow area crack but has a pad / cover over just that area (see pic). It still has the factory Cadillac crested floor mats in fantastic condition. There is a small tear and scuff in the headliner but you have to search hard for it. The back seat is amazing condition and the backsides of the front seats are wonderful shape. There is some very light normal wear on the front seats but still very nice condition. I have posted many detailed photos and urge you to study them carefully to determine your bid. Indeed this is a rare, near investment quality collector vehicle and will be great for cruising with the family to car shows etc. It needs very little to be show ready. This car would make a perfect classic car to restore fully or make into a Slab, Lowrider, Donk style or Custom car. It could be painted any color with the white interior and still be a show stopper. It does not have the bothersome flexible bumper fillers like the newer models. It has a Full Main Frame and is rear wheel drive. Of course it is loaded with Cadillac options like 6 way power seats, intermittent wipers, rear defrost, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power windows, power locks, power seats and climate control air conditioning. It has the original wheel covers, a spare tire and bumper jack also, It has a powerful and smooth 472 cubic inch V8 rated at 375 horsepower coupled to a 400 turbo Hydra-matic transmission. I have not driven it much since doing the brake work due to Ohio winter weather but it does run and drive pretty well . I don't know whether or not the AC works but it is all there. The signal seeking AM /FM radio is a bit finicky but plays ok. The horn blows, the wipers wipe and the blower works. All the lights work etc. I removed the rear windshield trim when I bought it and sealed under it with silicone as there had been some moisture seeping into the trunk. Currently the trunk is not finished but it is easy to re-carpet with that fuzzy gray liner material. It is now dry and has no holes but is only undercoated and needs to be finished. I have all the original musty material and cardboard side panels but just have not finished it out. I have also cleaned up the engine compartment and freshened up the paint under the hood. It is not done show car style but nice and presentable. I also replaced the under hood insulation panel. If you would like to discuss the car, you may call me at 614-517-3923 between 9 AM and 9 PM EST. You may also come and personally inspect the car. The car is advertised for sale locally and I do reserve the right to end the auction in favor of a local cash offer. Once the reserve price has been met though, the auction will run until the car is sold. Please do not bid if you are not serious and have the funds in hand to complete the transaction.PLEASE READ >>>>PAYMENT AND TERMS The payment terms are simple but firm. The successful bidder will call me at 614-517-3923 within 24 hours of the end of the auction and also submit a $500.00 non-refundable deposit by cash (in person) or bank wire transfer within 48 hours of the end of the auction with the balance by cash or wire at the time of pickup. I will allow 7 days for the balance of payment and pickup arrangements. No Paypal...period, No personal or bank checks or money orders and no overseas buyers...no exceptions. Additional time for storage can be discussed but full payment is required within 7 days of the close of the auction. Shipping and or transport is the bidders responsibility for all their arrangements. I will cooperate with you to get the transport done, but I will not make any of your arrangements for you other than providing the car and documents as stated (to you or your carrier), AFTER all funds are paid in full. This is a legally binding contract for sale of a motor vehicle in the State of Ohio and a non paying successful bidder will be reported to eBay and also credit reporting bureaus. It costs a lot of time and money to list the car for sale this way so please do not bid if you are not serious and capable of completing the sale. You are buying the car "as is -where is" and not buying the opportunity to dicker about the money or get permission from your parents or spouse. I have had bad experiences with non-paying bidders before. Please do your due diligence BEFORE you place a bid. I will hold you accountable for all the costs associated with a frivolous bid and failure to perform according to the terms of this contract, as well as all attorney fee's, storage fee's and re-listing fee's. I will provide an official notarized bill of sale and clear Ohio Motor Vehicle title at the time of pickup. We have a deputy registrar about 2 miles up the road that can provide you a temporary tag and notarize the title and bill of sale. I am not a dealer, I am a private seller that knows how this must all be done. The car will not be released until all money is paid in full, cleared by my bank and the documents properly notarized. You agree to these terms when you place your bid. Please be as serious about this as I am and we won't have any problems. This is a great opportunity on a Sweet Classic Car. On Feb-16-12 at 10:02:52 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE***** Based on several phone calls received , I have decided to share the following information and vent a bit. Here are links to the missing chrome trim pieces available on Ebay:. http://www.ebay.com/itm/110751761708 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/310264109132 you might be able to find others but these pieces are still available. This might make the part procurement easier for the buyer of the car. Also, regarding my feedback rating. Ebay changed how this is now reported and scored. I have well over 2000 positive transactions on Ebay (several from the same sellers) as well as having sold several cars on here. Ebay shows the 1228 positive feedback and the ONE negative. Here is the deal I sold a very nice 78000 mile Cadillac Allante convertible on here at "no reserve" and unfortunately for me the buyer was unhappy with the car. He claimed that I did not disclose that the lining for the convertible top was torn inside at the rear bow and that even though the ad stated the convertible top would need to be replaced (due to a small cut through over the drivers seat), he thought I should also have told him about the lining. I disagree because if you replace the top, NORMALLY you would replace the lining at the same time. That car was worth about 6000 dollars and I sold it to him for 3900 at "no reserve" as is / where is.. I gave him an extra set of 4 Allante road wheels and caps as well as a factory service manual, a car cover and some other miscellaneous parts at no charge also. He still gave me a negative mark because he was hoping the car was a showroom ready steal of a buy and when he got it he thought I was trying to hide something. I assure you that was never my intention. He was offerred the option of returning the car and declined because he knew that he still had a tremendous bargain. His ONE bad feedback dropped my rating to what is now shown. I don't think it is fair but I cannot dispute this further through Ebay. That is the real honest and true story and that is why I implore everyone to be realistic and do their due diligence before placing a bid. PLEASE come and look at the car if you are near enough and we will go for a drive (weather permitting). Ask for additional photos if you have specific concerns. I have posted the maximum photos allowed in the listing and tried to capture views from all angles, I have described the car to the best of my ability and know that peoples opinions differ about the quality of an item when being critical. This is a great car with tremendous potential and is well worth the buy it now price. It was listed for $6500 locally. Last item.... NO ....I will not disclose the reserve price on the phone. I appreciate the interest and hope the car sells, but if you want the car, you must bid to get it or "buy it now " for the $5000. Please note also that the "buy it now " option will go away when the reserve is met. I hope it brings more but we will have to wait and see. On Feb-18-12 at 15:49:56 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE: A fellow ebayer informed me that there was a discrepancy in the stated 375 HP rating I had in my description. See Q/A. I can't edit or change it now. After some research, I found him to be correct and that after 1970 the 472 engines were de-rated from 375 HP to 220 HP and the compression dropped from 10.5:1 to 8.5:1. I apologize for any inconvenience and assure you all that my intent was not to mislead anyone. I read the specification somewhere and am looking for the source of the incorrect information. Here is a link to Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_V8_engine ), On Feb-19-12 at 21:09:53 PST, seller added the following information: **** FINAL UPDATE **** My modest "reserve" price has now been met, The "Buy it Now" option has been removed.
