CONDITION REPORT
This incredible 1947 FORD was purchased by me right here in sunny Southwest Florida! If you are from the Southeastern United States, you probably know MELLOW YELLOW from its years on the show circuit in this region, including the Tampa NSRA events, Garlits Museum shows, Hollywood Hard Rock, and many more events this car was a staple at! Unfortunately, in late 2005, the former owner took ill, and the car was placed in temperature and humidity controlled storage until May of last year, when it was sorted out and made ready for the first two legs of the 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour, much to the owners delight!
This car is an absolute doll baby all the way around, and I have put about 250 miles on it myself, enjoying each and every minute! If you are looking for a reliable, proven, well built, and easy to maintain Street Rod, this is the car for you!
The MELLOW YELLOW wears its incredibly well kept finish beautifully! A custom blended PPG color, it most closely resembles Corvette Velocity Yellow Tintcoat when you see it in person. There is a subtle cast of metallic in the finish that really pops in the sunlight or underneath a streetlamps glow.
The paint is still VERY glossy, slick, and smooth all the way around, and other than a handful or so truly minor stone chips and marks from normal use, it shows WONDERFULLY!!! Please take a look at the 100 large photos below, and you can see that there are NO major marks on the car at all, and it is ready to enter into any local or regional event RIGHT NOW!
There is one 1/4" spot on the bottom left of the trunk lid that the paint has bubbled on, and it does not feel brittle, nor does it show signs of cracking or any other issue. You could have this 1/4" area touched up for practically nothing if you wish to do so. Other than that, the paint is still a show winner all the way around.
The late, great, and Legendary Florida pinstriper Patrick Cleland took his one-shot and brushes and worked his magic on this car throughout the interior and exterior, complimenting it with an array of graphics, old school striping, and Gold Leaf lettering that still shows like new! He was one of the great ones, and the car proudly bears his name under the trunk artwork.
MOON stickers were placed at the bottom of each front fender along with a single "gunshot" decal because the prior owner liked the way they looked. If you don't, I am sure they can be easily removed with a heat gun and some patience!
The polished stainless side trim on the car is in very good condition, and is original to the car as well! They show a few indentations and marks, but they just look like they belong and add to the character of this cool ride!
The grille looks amazing, and is in VERY good condition, with just light normal wear, and the rocker trim panels are straight and clean, with just some indentations and markings from road debris over the past 65 years!
Polished lollipop style mirrors on each side work great and look great, and have the FORD logo on them as well.
The car has a lot of cool period correct body mods on it, like frenched in front signals, decked trunk, recessed headlights, and frenched in L.E.D. rear tail lamps. All of the work is fantastic, and shows no signs or cracking or damage.
This car is ALL STEEL, and I have taken a 4"x4" felt covered magnet and stuck it all over the car! The only bits of glass, lead, or body filler apparent on the car are in the areas immeaditely relative to the body modifications where you would expect them.
A power antennae works as it should, and there is also a small box hitch in the back with a wiring harness. I have not tried the harness as I do not have that kind of plug with my trailer, but it is on the car.
Side glass on the car is in very good condition, and the front windows roll up and down with ease on newer fuzzies. Rear windows not only look great, but roll up and down PLUS into a vent position easily too!
Back glass has light markings on it from normal wear, and they may actually be in the tint more so the glass.
Vent window on drivers side looks and functions great, and the passenger side has a circle mark on it that I could not wipe off with windex.
The drivers portion of the windshield has a small (1/4") chip that has not developed any crack lines in it. The prior owner said it has been that way since 2004, so it probably won't get worse. Passenger front window looks great, with just some normal light scuff marks.
The door seals, window surrounds, and weatherstripping on the car all appears to be very good to like new, and shows no brittleness, cracking, or damage.
The car rides on 15" American Racing Show Chrome 5-spoke rims that all look fantastic, and are a detail away from being like new!
Tires are raised white letter Daytona Radial S/R all around, and are sized P215/65-R15 at all four corners. They show like new, and have at least 85% of the useable tread life remaining.
Dual exhaust tips peak out from the back of the car, and give it a great mellow rumble. A bit of polish and some elbow grease could have them sparkling in no time!
There is also an outside mount for a CB radio antennae, but the prior owner took the mast for his RV, so you will need to get another one!
Overall, the outside of this ALL STEEL street rod is incredible from every angle, and it is truly ready to enter into a show RIGHT NOW, and it has not even been detailed!!!! Just imagined how great it will look after you clean it up at home!
If you thought the outside of the car was awesome, wait until you open the doors and see the interior!!!
A rich combination of sand beige tweed with teal inserts carried over from the exterior graphics, the inside of the car shows wonderfully and needs nothing to drive and enjoy right now!
Seats are original FORD units that were resprung, stuffed, and covered and still look fantastic! There is a TON of room in the car, and I have personally been the driver with 6 full size adults riding comfort together down to the beach! It literally swallows passengers, and there is a huge amount of leg room front and rear!!! Flip fold front seats allow for easy in and out, and the contrasting panel inserts and custom made rear armrests look great too! The front seat has a small storage pocket installed for paperwork and things.
From the kick panels to the A,B,and C pillars, all the way to the headliner, this car is fully finished inside to a high standard!
Since it has not been professionally detailed yet, it shows a couple small stains that will clean up easily, but NO rips, tears, seam pulls or damage is evident!
Door pulls and window rollers are original FORD units, and show great while functioning perfectly!
Black, thick weave carpeting looks great, and shows just normal wear with no damage evident. The Tweety Bird vinyl floormats help protect it, and match the Tweety Bird mirror hanger and seat belt covers! If you don't like Tweety, they can all come off in about 30 seconds!
The dash is in great condition, and is painted to match the exterior, with tasteful graphics by Cleland inside as well. A couple stickers inside were placed by the prior owner, and can be removed if you don't like them.
Gold leaf lettering that says MELLOW YELLOW sits prominently on the dash, and looks awesome!
VDO gauges run across the dash and look fantastic with white face and black lettering. They are as follows, from left to right:

All of the gauges appear to be functioning correctly, but I have not had them professionally calibrated.
The odometer is not working, and the prior owner said it needs a fitting he never got around to installing.
A PIONEER AM/FM/CD stereo with 45Wx4 is in the dash, and works on all settings. It is connected to (2) Infinity 5.75" round speakers in the front kick panels, (2) Pioneer 6x9's in the rear side panels, and (2) Pioneer 6x9's in the back package shelf. The system sounds FANTASTIC, and I played my Johnny Cash CD so loud it sounded like the Man in Black was sitting beside me!
A Vintage Air Slimline styled unit sits under the dash and works GREAT! It blows ice cold air, and has been converted to R134 already.
A GM tilt steering column functions as it should, and has turn signal, hazard, and tilt controls on it. It is topped with a great looking GRANT GT wood hoop steering wheel.
Controls for the wipers, an aux. electric fan, and the inside hood release also reside on or under the dash, and I am trying to figure out the switch for the under car neon but haven't got it yet!
A modern style fuse block is installed, and has room for more accessories if you need it!
Finally, a Radio Shack CB radio is under dash, and seems to function, although I could not raise a single person on it. Must be those darn cell phones!
Floor mounted foot switch for hi-beams works, and there is an emergency brake pedal, but it does NOT function at this time.
A hidden button pops the trunk lid, and reveals a fully finished and lined lid and trunk space with a temporary spare.
Overall, the interior is in very good condition, and is super comfortable for long hauls and short trips too!
Under the hood, the car has the venerable combination of 350 GM V8 with a TH350 automatic transmission. When I asked the prior owner details about it, he replied:
"Hell, it's a 350 out of something that I bought cheap, and then spent too much money on to make like new. That transmission was in my garage for years, and I re-did (sic) it to make it good to go too. You sure ask a lot of questions...."
I can't get anywhere close to see block numbers or anything, so I will state what I know. I do believe it is indeed a 350. It starts, runs, idles, and pulls just like it should, and does not have any obvious issues at this time.
After driving it over 200 odd miles, it didn't overheat, act funny, or anything else. It also only left the smallest mark of oil on the shop floor, which appears to be from one of the pan bolts.
It is dressed up for the ball with just the right amount of chrome and polished goodies to make you proud to prop it open at shows (show stick included at no additional charge), and seems to be a pretty reliable and fault free runner. Oil is clean, and it is not a smoker either.
Cylinder heads even have MELLOW YELLOW on them for that custom made look!
Tranny shifts smooth and solid, and shows no sign of any driveablilty issues. It seems to be geared for the highway, as 70mph cruising is low on the RPM scale, and it is NOT a tire smoking red light to red light racer. It was built for long trips, and that's what it does best.
I know the rear end is GM, but out of what, I don't know.
Shocks and springs must be good, because the car has a solid yet comfortable ride, with no wallow or pillowing.
Brakes are power units, and bring the car down from speed with no odd pulling, fade, or wander.
The car tracks straight down the road and is easy to steer thanks to teh GM power steering.
I put some underside shots up, but I do not have a lift to get better ones. It is solid, and appears to be rot and patch free what what I can see. Frame is solid and straight, and if you want additional underside shots just call me and I will try to get them for you.
Underside is NOT a painted show finish, so don't go buy a set of mirrors. It is solid and straight though, and could probably be cleaned up even better if you spent some time with a wire brush and a lift.
The car has been safety inspected by our technician, and found to be ready to go.
