I looked for this car for about a month in order to find one that had low mileage, no accidents, a 6.8 Liter ten cylinder engine and all of the options I wanted. Before I decided on this purchase I spoke to my buddy at the Ford agency who is a Service Writer and I said “what kind of problems have you seen with the V10s”? His response was “we haven’t seen any”. I had a company with a small fleet of minivans and used this vehicle for towing them back to the mechanic on the occasion that one of them became inoperable. I also purchased at that time a MTM car hauler trailer. I had a Mile Marker Series 70 52000C hydraulic 12,000 pound, 2 speed winch installed on the trailer powered by an engine driven pump on the Excursion. At the same time I had the vehicle plumbed to allow the winch to be mounted on either the front or rear and connected to the hydraulic system via quick connects. The winch can be controlled by either a push button control that plugs in under the hood or by a radio remote control you can keep in your hand and operate from the back where the car is being hauled up on the trailer. The cost on the winch alone was $3,375.45. The gas mileage was not too spectacular so I added a Gear Vendors 4R100 overdrive unit. This unit can be used manually through a floor mounted switch allowing you to effectively “split shift” for all the gears or you can switch it to automatic and it will come in at about 45 miles and reduce the engine RPM by 23%. Ford does not recommend towing with their overdrive on but this unit is the same basic planetary transmission used in large over the road trucks. This unit has a lifetime guarantee. The cost on the overdrive unit was $3,485.00. This vehicle has spent the majority of its life sitting in the garage. It has only 64,000 original miles on it. That works out to just over 5,000 miles per year. This truck has NEVER had any body damage with the exception of one small dent in the driver's side rear fender just in front of the bumper (pictured). I have added many items to this unit such as fancy custom molded (catch the snow and dirt) floor mats, a permanently installed Garman GPS that cost about $1,100.00 when I bought it. There is a computer mount for a laptop between the two front seats mounted so as not to obstruct the air bags including an installed inverter for power, I have a Dell power supply wired in at this time. There is of course a very good trailer brake operator and the vehicle was equipped from the factory with the large mirrors, the wiring for the trailer lights and brakes and the heavy duty receiver. There is also a receiver in the front for the winch if you want to slide it in there. The car has an almost new set of Michelin premium radial tires along with a matching spare. There are strobe lights installed at all four corners in the tail lights as well as in the front and an Arrow Stick installed at the top of the rear window. I always felt that there was more chance of not being run into when stopped on the side of the highway if there are all kinds of lights flashing. The trailer has just had new fenders installed and the entire break system including backing plates and drums replaced. The deck of the trailer is expanded metal and the ramps are aluminum. I am now retired and have no further use for this setup. I have no intensions of giving it away, so please don’t offer me a 1947 Willies and $50.00 in cash. I don’t think shipping is in the cards as it would take up so much room on a trailer they would probably charge the same as three cars but if you wish to pay for it than I will aid in the transfer to the shipper. I have taken pictures of everything that I think anyone would want to see and included some of the pictures from when the winch was installed. I have a ton of money in this truck and have always given it the best care. I have synthetic oil in it since I have had it. The oil has been changed every 3,000 miles religiously. I have full documentation on all of the major items. If you have any questions call me 609-352-3056 Marvin.
