Vehicle Detail
In 1924, Walter Chrysler decided to go out on his own. He had been President of the Buick Division of General Motors. He made an offer to purchase the struggling Maxwell Motor Company and was successful. The first order of business was to get his design team to create new advanced designs. The second was to develop a new powerful 6 cylinder engine. Another feature, risky at that time, was to install hydraulic brakes on all cars. Everything came together with this car in 1926. Since there was so much competition, Chrysler needed to incorporate beauty with technology and durability. This car is packed with many features not found on most of the day. Not only did it have hydrolic brakes and the new Chrysler 6 engine, but this car has side markers, rumble seat, premium oak wood wheels, golf door, tool pouch in drivers door, and leather interior. Chrysler test drove every car that left the assembly line. When assigning a Model, he would use a prototype on the company track and use the top recorded speed for the Model designation. This is a Model 70=70 miles per hour. This car was completely reconditioned with a body off frame restoration in the 80's, I have the pictures. Since then, the car was kept in climate controlled storage and used very little. As you can see by the pictures, the car shows very nicely. The paint is checked on most of the top surfaces. I have driven this car from Oxnard to Santa Barbara (37 miles) several times without incident. This is a good running car. The Chrysler gets attention you would not believe. Locally, there is a "Cars & Coffee every Sunday. Whether I park next to a Cobra, Ferrari, Marmon, or old Cadillac, this gets the attention prize. As for the mileage, only God knows! This is a very fun car to work on, drive, and enjoy. You won't see another Model 70 as nice as this. In 2004, this car got a certified appraisal that comes with the car. Value at that time was $28,500. Most car values have gone up in the past 8 years, especially rare and original cars. The car is on display at the Murphy Auto Museum in Oxnard Ca. If serious, give me a call 805-637-8641. Dana Newquist Due to local advertisments, I will reserve the right to remove this ad at any time due to the possibility of the car getting sold locally. Due to it's rarity and condition, the Impala should sell somewhere in the 20's or higher depending on the buyer. The reserve is conservative for this car. What a Great Valentine Gift! Fly in and drive it home, if you are patient.
