Vehicle Detail
1965 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Additional (detailed) pictures can be found here: https://picasaweb.google.com/110590828106715956936/1965ChevelleSS# This a gorgeous 2 door coupe that I've owned for over the last 25 years. It's a true SS car (ID number is 138375K130678) with a 327 and the desirable 4-speed manual transmission in crocus yellow with a black interior. A frame-on "original" restoration was completed over 20 years ago. It's been driven less than 100 miles since the restoration and always stored in a garage. Car is being sold because I'm never going to drive it and I need the garage space. Body: As shown in the pictures, the body and paint on this car are essentially flawless. The car was taken down to bare metal, any rust areas were replaced and welded in and the car professionally painted with a base-coat/clear-coat in 1965 Chevrolet crocus yellow. The paint is extremely flat and highly reflective. It's a high-dollar paint-job. The car has always been stored in a garage since painted. All new rubber seals, window felts, etc. were installed after paint. Interior: The interior was restored as original. Original style seat covers, door panels and carpeting were professionally installed by an upholstery shop in Oregon. Padded dash is original and in excellent condition. Dash trim is original (not reproduction). All gauges except the speedometer and clock are functional. Original floor console is in excellent shape. The headliner is original and needs to be replaced. I started replacing the headliner years ago but then never finished removing it. headliner material and all the headliner trim come with the car. Engine: Engine is a period-correct 327ci with power-pack SS01 heads rebuilt with hardened valve seats. Engine ID is F0325RC, 4114985, casting number, 3782870 which decodes to be a 327ci out of a 1964 Corvette. Engine was professionally rebuilt and assembled by a shop in Portland, Oregon with a RV-grind camshaft. It has less than 100 miles on it since the rebuild. The 1965 Rochester 4-barrel carburetor was professionally rebuilt and shelved until recent reinstallation. The engine just received an out-of-storage tune up which included installing new plugs and wires and a new (rebuilt) starter. A new battery was installed as well. Like the rest of the car, the engine was assembled with original 1965 parts including correct valve covers, exhaust manifolds, intake manifold and Rochester carburetor. Transmission: The transmission is the desirable 4-speed transmission with a period-correct Hurst shifter. Transmission ID is P9R2, casting number 3925660, which decodes to M-21 transmission out of a later 1969. The transmission shifts easy and is well synchronized and is easy to downshift. Clutch is smooth. No chatter, no whine. Fun car to shift through the gears. Chassis: The front end was rebuilt with all new ball joints, bushings, tie-rod ends, etc. All front-end components (a-arms, spindles, backing plates, etc) were sandblasted and painted. The car drives extremely nice and straight down the road. Steering is very tight. New shocks were installed front and back which gives it a nice ride. No rattles. New drum brakes front and back. A new master cylinder and front brake cylinders were just installed (due to time in storage). The brakes feel amazing for drum brakes. The rear end was gone through years ago. I believe it to be a 3.07 gear ratio 12-bolt rear-end, non-positrac but couldn't locate the ID numbers to be sure. Casting numbers are NF X3917125. No leaks, no whine. A new gas tank and sending unit were just installed in December since years of warm garage storage and bad gas took its toll on the old components. Car has a new dual exhaust system which dumps out just behind the rear wheels and sounds good. Original steel wheels were sand blasted and painted. The hubcabs are original SS caps that had never been on a car (removed at the dealership in 1965) until now. This set has been in stored until they were installed onto the car in December. A very nice extra set of SS hubcaps are included with the car. Extras/collectables also included with the car will be: · Three (3) original 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle manuals: Factory assembly manual, body service and chassis service manual. · Extra set (4) of very nice 1965 SS hubcaps · Dust cover · Power brake booster and master cylinder · Original bumper jack · Bias-ply spare tire · Extra body trim pieces To be perfect the car still needs: Speedometer does not work due to a stripped drive cable end. A new speedometer cable and drive gear is included. (Never got around to installing these.) Headliner needs to be replaced (headliner material and all trim is included in the sale). Headliner trim is in excellent shape. Rear bumper. The current rear bumper on the car is original with great chrome (no rust) and looks good but has a few dents. Driver's side truck pan has some pinholes (see picture link) and could use replacement. Paint needs touch-up by the side mirror (mirror folded in and scraped the door) and top of the front RH fender has a quarter-sized dent/chip (see picture link). I hold a clear Oregon title to this car. All the expensive hard work has been completed. This is a beautiful SS car with many original extras that needs just a few small things to make it perfect. The car runs, drives and stops awesome. I put a lot of money and work into this car but I'm done with it and want it to go to a home where it gets used and is appreciated.
