Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE - SPECTACULAR, mostly all original, 1970 Mercedes Benz 280-S 4-Door Sedan! SEE all 24 images below! A very classical, elegant design that will never grow old! Looks, runs, drives, and stops great! Clear Florida title in hand! ORIGINAL Tobacco Brown exterior with ORIGINAL, uncommon, light beige (NOT TAN) Mercedes texture interior! I am the second owner - purchased from the original owner who bought this car new back in 1970 and, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, it was a little old lady in Palm Beach Florida! HAS the original economical 6-cylinder 180HP engine that runs great with no noises or leaks! Very clean and straight body in the original Tobacco Brown color was repainted by the original owner in 2006 and still looks great! All original interior right down to the carpets! Has cocoa floor mats over the carpets front and rear! FACTORY AIR, POWER WINDOWS, and newer matching COOPER TRENDSETTER RADIAL WHITEWALL TIRES with 80% to 85% tread remaining! ORIGINAL Becker radio! ORIGINAL Owner's Manual and books as shown! The 5-digit odometer currently shows only 2,120 miles but I'm sure it's gone around at least once, so at least 102,120 or more miles, but no way of confirming true mileage and mileage exempt regardless. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS A 42-YEAR OLD CAR - IT IS A VERY, VERY CLEAN WEEKEND CRUISER or even a daily driver AS DESCRIBED AND SHOWN IN MULTIPLE PHOTOS BELOW, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED (and does not necessarily need to be restored), IT IS NOT A SHOW CAR, and IT IS NOT NEW! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW MERCEDES PLEASE BE PREPARED TO SPEND ABOUT 30 to 40 TIMES THE OPENING BID OF THIS CLASSIC BEAUTY! THE GOOD: Body is super straight and generally very good and paint looks great! ORIGINAL upholstery in fantastic condition except the driver's seat is slightly worn and age-toned and/or slightly soiled from more extensive use than the other seats. ALL original trim, badges, emblems, and chrome - AND chrome looks great! HAS all 4 original wheel covers, repainted in 2006 when the body was done. ALL floor pans both inside and underneath are clean enough to serve lunch on! Headlights, tail lights, turn signals, brake lights, dash board lights, vanity and dome lights, ignition key buzzer, all work fine! ALL 4 power windows, all dash gauges, windshield wipers, horn, all door locks and trunk lock, all work fine with the exception of the clock! The main dash board wood is in great condition but the strip at the base of the windshield has oxidized and needs to be refinished. Very decent headliner with no rips or tears, just slightly age-toned and/or yellowed. Newer radial whitewalls with 80% to 85% tread remaining! Newer brakes by the original owner work fine! Newer battery! Owner's Manual and other original books etc., as shown! Factory Air Conditioning works but only blows luke-cool to luke-warm but at least it blows - might only need a freon charge but I honestly don't know. Original Becker Radio works but the station tuning knob doesn't work so all you get is static unless you drive into an area with a station where the radio is currently tuned into. Tire tools and a good spare in the trunk. Starts right up the first time every time, but idles fast until the car warms up. THE BAD: There are some rust bubbles starting to form under the paint - behind the left front wheel and on the rear driver's-side door above the sill trim (SEE close-up images). Has a single, small, crack in the dash pad which is an easy fix for the new owner. The door window wood trim on the driver's door has started to delaminate near the vent window - ALL other door window wood trim is fine! Air conditioning only blows luke-cool to luke-warm. Radio works but not too good. The door panel on the driver's door has a worn spot where the driver's elbow would rest while cruising (SEE image). The upper (low beam) headlight on the drivers side is not working only when in low beam for some unknown reason, but it works fine when in high beam (SEE images). Some normal, minor flaws, blemishes, and dings in body and/or chrome when you're a foot away, most of which are virtually invisible from 10 feet away. THE UGLY: There really isn't anything ugly about with this superb automobile! A FABULOUS DRIVER with more than enough power to propell you along at Interstate speeds all day long! I've taken this beauty on a few long-distance trips without a single mishap! While I cannot guarantee that you could drive this cross-country without incident, personally I would not hesitate to embark on such a journey with the expectation that it would be successfully concluded! NO RESERVE! Please call Ken at 863.324.9246 to inspect and/or test drive PRIOR TO THE END OF THE AUCTION. This car is sold to the highest bidder as-is where-is!
