1936 Auburn Cord QUICK REFERENCE Miles: 0 Stock # 0001910A Engine: Body Style: Transmission: Interior Color: Burgundy VIN: 0001910A Exterior Color: Burgundy VEHICLE DESCRIPTION For those of you unfamiliar with Auburn Automobile Company, and the Cord 810 Sedan, it was designed by the legendary designer Gordon Buehrig. The Cord 810 created a sensation when it debuted at the 1935 New York Auto Show. The crowds around the 810 were so dense, attendees stood on the bumpers of nearby cars to get a look. This was the car of the future. The Cord 810 Sedan was named the Westchester after the New York City suburb which, during the 1930s, was synonymous with wealth and good taste. It had very unique styling and was well ahead of its time. It was aerodynamic and elegant, and caused a sensation where it traveled. At the front was the trademark 'coffin nose' hood that concealed the 288.6 cubic-inch Lycoming V8 engine. The car was so low that it required no running boards. Pontoon fenders, wraparound grille and concealed headlights were featured. Its engine-turned aircraft style dashboard featured a tachometer and built-in radio. Mechanically the car was innovative with front wheel drive, a pre-select gear transmission, and a Lycoming engine with performance to match its looks. The Cord was one of the first front wheel drive vehicles made. A total of 1629 Cord 810s were constructed in 1936 with each different bodystyle being a rarity in modern times. This model sold new for $2,195, a considerable amount of money in 1936. Sadly, the 810/812 Cord lasted only two years. In 1937, the company went out of business, yet another casualty of the Great Depression. Today, the Cord 810/812 is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars ever built and was honored by the Museum of Modern Art, which named the 810 Cord as one of the 10 most significant cars of the 20th century. Vanguard Motor Sales is proud to present you this Auburn Cord 810 4 Door Sedan. This Cord is truly a piece of history. The Cord you are looking at today is sporting its original Burgundy paint. That being said, you have to remember that this car is 75 years old, so the paint shines nice, but does have some cracking. The chrome bumpers in front and back are in great shape, are beautifully polished and shine bright. The chrome around the windshield does have some peeling on the inside as well as the outside. The body and undercarriage of this rare piece are very solid. The brakes have been redone and mounted on all four corners are period-correct wide whitewall tires. This Cord still has its original Lycoming motor, which is paired up to a pre-select gear transmission. You will be extremely impressed with the condition of the interior. The burgundy upholstery and cream piping on the seats and door panels are clean and beautiful and the headliner is tight. The dash is bright and clean and the gauges are clear. Concealed headlights are manually operated with a crank lever from inside the car. This is a truly special car. Always special to see, Cords are not widely known, but it's rare for someone to become familiar with them and not fall in love. Stunning to see, and impressive to drive, this Cord 810 4 Door Sedan belongs in the finest collection. Call us today! My name is Tom and I’m here to make your purchase as easy as possible.
