1910 Pierce Arrow Restoration Project This auction is for an incredible 1910 Pierce Arrow restoration project. This project is a tribute to one man’s tenacious determination. Upon his request he will remain anonymous. He invested over 10 years of his free time and nearly reached the pinnacle of completion! The buyer will surely reap the benefit of his thousands of miles driven, his hundreds of phone calls and emails made, and the thousands of research and shop hours he expended. The quality, condition and amount of parts included are astounding! The photographs and research documents are further testimony to all of his effort. So much has already been done! Reproduction parts are mixed with the original Pierce Arrow parts. As you will see the original parts included are, in nearly every instance, in extra fine condition and are exactly correct in there application. When reproduction parts are used they are exact and of the highest quality possible. The prior owner always desired to achieve a premier class of restoration. This project is a 1910 Pierce Arrow Model 36 four passenger runabout, chassis number 30859. The engine assembly included with this project is not an original 1910 model 36 six cylinder, but is a 1916 Pierce Arrow model 38 C-4 single valve dual ignition engine. This engine actually produces 72 h.p.; please refer to Automobile Quarterly vol. 28, #4, page 51. 72h.p. will allow for traveling modern highway speeds, especially if one elects to purchase a high speed ring and pinion gear set which are available. These Pierce Arrow engines were among the most reliable ever built by Pierce Arrow. Since this engine was designed with and includes its original starting system; the owner of this project can enjoy the benefit of hands-free starting. The engine included in the auction is in very-good un-restored condition. As far as I know it is complete with the exception of the carburetor. However, a significant number of extremely rare 1910 model 36 engine accessories are included in the sale of this project. They are: a solid brass intake manifold, an exact and authentic 1910 model 36 carburetor and an ignition timer. These items can easily become the “frosting on the cake”. The remainder of the parts and assemblies shown are, as far as known, either authentic 1910 Pierce Arrow or faithful reproductions. I have relied on my personal observations and information provided to me by the previous owner to make these descriptions. I purchased this project, exactly as you see it and have done my best to catalog and describe every part accurately. This project is sold "as is". The winning bidder will be responsible for all shipping costs and arrangements. The seller will assist in loading the chassis and all other items. All of the smaller components will be securely packaged for safe shipping at no additional cost to the buyer. If any of you are curious, I don’t have any other Pierce Arrow parts for sale. Under no circumstance will any part be sold separately from this auction! Please do not call and ask me how much I would take for this project and stop the auction. If you want it, buy it at auction! Every part shown in the photographs will be included! In addition to the parts which have been photographed and described, a very large number of research photographs and literature will be included. One of the items included is a one hundred and eleven page reproduction “Price List of Parts-36 Horse Power 6 Cylinder 1910”. There are twelve very nice, 8.5 X 11inch reproductions of Pierce Arrow factory drawings of important mechanical components all with great detail and some with important dimensions. There are one hundred and seven, three inch by five inch photographs, some of similar Pierce Arrows undergoing restoration and of others which have been restored. There are fourteen 8 X 10 inch photographs most are old originals or copies of similar early Pierce Arrows. The only significant assembly that is not included is the copper fuel tank. Two photographs of a correct original fuel tank are included. Two accurate dimensional drawings of the fuel tank are also included. If you are interested in bidding on this project please carefully view every photograph and carefully read all of the descriptions provided. I will be pleased to answer serious questions, and promise to do so promptly and politely. Finally, if one looks at the photograph of the restored red 19ll Pierce Arrow, one may imagine how this project could be transformed into a stunning show stopper! If you wish to purchase this project, bid accordingly and good luck! After you have had an opportunity to view all of the 211 pictures below, if you have a serious questions please refer to the number that accompanies the picture. This transmission has been professionally restored with all new bearings. The input and output yoke surfaces have been machined and fitted with modern neoprene seals. After final assembly when the serfaces of the split cases are sealed with modern silicone sealant this transmission should not leak a drop. The "red paint" on the interior surfaces of the transimission case is glyptal. Glyptal seals the aluminum casting from its inherent porousity. Glyptal also allows the lubricant to circulate better around inside the transmission. One small gear still needs to be replaced due to the previous owner's decision to curtail expenditures and sell his project. Otherwise, this transmission is fabulous and ready to go. The transmission shifter cap has been boiled out but not yet bead-blasted and painted.
