Vehicle Detail

I recently found this rare, low-mileage 1985 Porsche 928 and bought it, as it was the car I always wanted... And then found my future wife, whom I want even more. SO: It is without too much sadness I am going to pass this car along in the interest of jump-starting our life together. Before I begin about the car, let me lay out the expectations of this auction - Please read the entire ad carefully. This is a great car, but as with any used car, it is being sold 'as-is where is', and shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer. If you are able to come look at the car in person and test drive, I recommend you do that. I expect a $1000- deposit to be paid immediately upon completion of the auction, and the balance within 5 days' time, regardless of when you are able to come collect the car. I would not hesitate to hop in and drive this car anywhere right now, but I can not guarantee anything. If you need to be collected from the airport or train station, I can help with that, and may be able to help call a local car hauler for you too if delivery is preferred. Deposit can be paid by paypal, wire transfer or bank deposit, balance to be paid by check, money order, cash, bank deposit, wire transfer. I have this car for sale locally too and reserve the right to end this auction at any time if a local sale presents itself. I am hoping on this car bringing in the 10K range of price, it is worth it, you would be hard pressed to find a cleaner original 928, not to mention the extra power and panache of the gray-market European version. By bidding on this auction you agree to the terms stated here. Now, onto the car: This is a 1985 car and the VIN# of this car is WP0ZZZ92ZFS840504 , but the ebay computer will not let me enter it that way, as it is a euro-version, so I had to enter '1980' in my ebay ad. BUT THE CAR IS A 1985, check the VIN. This is a super-clean car. I am tempted to call it 'perfect', but there are in fact blemishes and minor quirks and problems which I will detail further along in my ad here. This was only a 2-owner car when I bought it recently, and I have a clean, signed title ready to transfer into your name. Car is registered here in Oregon until the end of 2013. The owner I bought the car from had owned it for 20 years, from when the car had only 20K miles, and he drove the car very rarely, which is why it still has so few miles. The car has no accident damage, or any major scratches or dings, glass is perfect throughout. Car is still very original, the only non-original parts seen to be the radio (Newer Blaupunkt CD player, which sounds great) and tires. The interior of the car looks great. Power seats are still supple, and have no tears. Carpets are all present, and there may be a faded spot or two on the floor, and under the rear hatch. The overall impression inside is "WOW"... Dash is great, BUT, the leather is pulling back a bit from the defrost vents, and there is a small crack at one of the vents. The rest of the dash, dash pod, center console are all perfect. Check pictures for close up of dash crack. Headliner is brilliant. Sunroof does not leak. Door panels and arm rests are perfect. Rear seats are perfect. Wheels look great, tires are getting tired (at least two are ready to be replaced, the other two have about 75% tread left). Glove box looks great. Vents are all intact. Gauges all work. All electrical items (lights, horn, alarm, door locks, etc. work) - Everything looks great! EXTERIOR OF THE CAR looks great too. Very straight with no dents or dings. There are minor scratches here or there if you look for them , but they are difficult to find, except for one scratch on the top of the passenger side fender, which looks like it has been 'keyed' - but it is not too deep, and could probably be hidden/fixed very easily. Glass is all perfect, and tinted all around. Lenses are all perfect expect for one cracked fog light lens. Paint is black, original , and all glossy with no peeling, failing clear coat, dents, dings, or other major scratches. MECHANICALLY, this is a very rare 'European Version' 928S with the M28/21 320HP engine, and is the fastest/ most powerful 928 until the 928GT was introduced later with the newer S4 body style. Fastest production car sold at the time. This car has the rare 5 speed manual transmission with a limited slip differential. Engine bay is spotless and looks great. Engine starts right up and purrs smoothly along - until you step on the gas pedal, at which point it sounds pretty ruthless and not-so-mellow. Mechanically speaking, engine is healthy, transmission shifts smoothly after car has warmed up a minute or two, which is normal, before that it can be difficult to just slam into gear. This is a function of the thick gear lube, not an indication of worn syncros. Brakes feel great and grab tight with no pulling or pulsations. All electrical items work great. Heater works great. Air Conditioning blows cold, but I do not think it is charged, could use new freon. Windows work most of the time, locks and alarm always work. PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR: I will try to outline everything I know here. There is the scratch on the driver's side front fender about 2" long, would be easy to get touch-up paint for. This is the worst blemish on the body. Driver's side fog light lens is cracked. There is a small crack on the front spoiler, if you want to get your pants dirty kneeling down to scrutinize and investigate. The biggest problem with the car has been from it's infrequent use: Many of the electrical connections were dirty in the fuse box, causing it to be hard to start for a while, and the windows and fuel injection and sunroof would all work only intermittently for a time. I have since cleaned the fuses, relays and harness at these plugs and have been successful in getting everything to work consistently, BUT, sometimes the tachometer will stop, and sometimes the windows will not work either. Fiddling with the fuse/relays will usually get them working again. This is the car's biggest problem. Sometimes, the driver's side exterior door handle will stick, and you need to thump the door when you lift the handle for the door to open. If any of these things bother you too much, I could have them sorted out for good before you pick up the car, if you want to pay to have them sorted first. I can get estimates for you if you like. The dash has one crack, and the leather cover is pulling back at the defrost vents. Driver's seat switch has a screw in it to use as a 'joystick' for some reason. Carpets have a couple of faded spots. Please look at pictures carefully. I did not clean car or try to take flattering pictures of the car, any blemishes should be easy to see. I will add more here as I field your questions, or think of other things to add. In short, this is a beautiful car, and a rare opportunity to buy a Euro-version 928 with tons more horsepower than the US versions had, and with very little in the way of problems. The car has very low miles, and the odometer works, and it is obvious the car has been taken care of and not neglected or abused. I would be keeping this car if I did not need to sell it for the upcoming marriage plans. Please email with any questions, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for reading all of this!
