Well, due to unforseen consequences, I having having to sell my beloved 510. A friend of mine owned this car and I only sorta knew what it was, until he told me to watch "Against All Odds", which, if youre not familiar with this film, is the story of how Pete Brock and John Morton took these Datsun 510's, made racecars out of them and kicked everyone's ass on the Trans Am circuit in 70, 71, and 72. Go to youtube.com and search "Against All Odds", to watch this story of a giant killer. But if youre looking at this, then you probably know what the this is. Its a 1972 Datsun 510, all gussied up to look like a BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) race car from the Trans Am circuit. IT IS NOT A REAL BRE 510. Once I knew what my buddy had, I bought from him and had plans to restore it into a proper 510 BRE replica, but some unexpected home repairs have changed that. I have only had the car 2 months, but drive it often. It is mechanically sound, but not without issues, as you would expect a 40 year old car to have. I will try to list what I know but make no mistake this car is offered AS IS with no warranty whatsoever. It does not appear to be using or leaking oil, I have not had to add any nor is it pooling on the ground, but there is some accumulation on the underside. It does have some spots of rust along the bottom and round fenders, but if youre clever, perhaps you can only fix and repair the stuff that needs it without a full repaint. The engine is a swapped out Ka24de and 5 speed trans from a 93 Nissan 240. Cold air intake and racing radiator. The interior is being redone and Honda Prelude seats have been put in, along with grey automotive carpet. I will put the door coverings back on and I have all the hardware for the doors, including armrests and window cranks. When I got it, there was no radio, so I added a Sony Marine cd player and have run all the wiring but not hooked it up yet. I have a pair of brand new Pioneer 6.5's that come with this car. I have extra matching carpet for the back deck. I have a set of homemade black carpet that came with the car, appears new. Has period correct American Racing Libre wheels that look great on this car. I have the bumpers, they are not installed but obviously come with the car. Will need new tires at some point, I drive it all the time, though. Has hi flow muffler, has a fantastic guttural burble in between gears. Most parts are readily available both on the internet and through Nissan, it's been easy to find what Ive needed so far. The seatbelts are missing and to legally drive this car, they will need to be added-check your local laws. Steering is a bit loose, probably needs bushings. I just had the rear deck repainted, since it didn't match when I got it. Back seat cushions need reupholstering, but its all there. BRE stickers were being collected, what you see is as far as I got. Now that I have told you all the good and bad I can think of, the bottom line is that this car is a head turner, is quick, handles great and is definitely different from the run of the mill stuff you see out there. If you want to drive something out the ordinary, this is it. I have tried to accurately represent this car, check my feedback. Again, sold as is.
