1968 Mustang Coupe that is restored to Tribute a California Special Convertible With a Removable Fastback Roof IF Ford made a California Special Convertible or Fastback, I think it would have looked like this Mustang My name is John. This is a beautifully restored example of a 1968 Mustang Coupe transformed into a Convertible with a removable Fastback Roof. It runs great, drives great, looks great, and the attention it gets is extreme! No Disappointments: This Convertible conversion is a great investment and a fun car to drive and enjoy. From the engine compartment to the trunk and everywhere in between, this is a clean car. The following will be a description of each area of the car, being as in-depth and accurate as possible. Please keep in mind that this is a classic car that is over 43 years old, and although I will describe everything as best I can, some small items may have been overlooked. 1968 Mustang VIN/Dataplate Info Dataplate Breakdown: Body: Hardtop, Standard Interior, Bucket Seats Color: Royal Maroon [Interior] Trim: Black vinyl Date: 01 of February (1st year - except 65, 2nd year) DSO: San Jose Axle: 2.79:1 Trans: C-4 Automatic VIN (Warrenty Number) Breakdown: 8 = 1968 R = San Jose, CA 01 = Hardtop C = 289-2v 137252 = Consecutive unit number #137252 BODY: As you can see from the photos, this Mustang has a very nice rust free body and undercarriage. It’s rock solid, with no evidence of any rust anywhere! The underside is also solid, with great frame rails, perfect torque boxes and strong floor pans. The car was restored several years ago to a nice weekend warrior. The burgundy paint is a single stage paint and could use a buffing. The doors, trunk and hood all open and shut properly, and all of the glass is good. The roof is a 2-piece fiberglass roof with a plexi-glass rear window. The roof comes off with 2 bolts and 2 wing nuts, and can be removed in less than 2 minutes. The undercarriage received a chassis strengthening kit from Mustangs Plus prior to the roof removal. There is absolutely no body sag or flex. The convertible top is an original convertible frame that is mounted into an original Ford correct Seat Back Chassis Mounting Platform. Convertible side glass was installed as well. INTERIOR: The interior in great shape with new and original components: · Original Steering Wheel · New Door Panels · Carpet and Kick Panels · All new weather stripping · Professionaly recovered seats seats · Console · New Dash Pad · Shelby Roll Bar · New Manual Convertible Top ENGINE / MECHANICS: The car starts at the flick of the key and runs strong and smooth. The car tracks straight and brakes straight, has good steering response and a nice ride. The V8 engine has plenty of power and runs strong and cool. The automatic transmission shifts very responsive and smooth. the odometer shows 18159. This is probably 118,159 because of the odometer limits. The engine compartment is very clean, highly detailed and maintains its original appearance right down to the cadmium-plated bolts. Front Disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The suspension and is very firm and responsive to the touch. The car runs and drive like new. The Mustang has good tires and sports the GT Wheels. · Front Disk Brakes · Power Steering · Dual Exhaust · Firm Suspension Trunk: The trunk area is very clean, detailed, and looks like new. There is not even a hint of rust. A new trunk mat is present. Of course, all bolts are cadmium plated. No issues here, the pictures of the car speak for themselves. OVERALL: The car of course gets lots of looks, it's really what I'd call the perfect collector car: a super desirable coupe transformed into a CONVERTIBLE with a Fastback Roof. that needs nothing, and runs fantastic.
