Vehicle Detail
1951 HUDSON COMMODORE SIX SEDAN HISTORY The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable, well engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was to be forever changed on December 7th, 1947 when Hudson introduced their new 1948 models in nationwide showings. Banners proclaimed “This Time It’s Hudson”. The cars won instant acclaim from the public. Production had actually begun on October 12th. The tremendous factory conversion effort took only 23 days. Hudson spent $16,000,000 for development and new production equipment. The new car was revolutionary in that virtually no parts interchanged with the 1947 models, except the eight cylinder engine, which was essentially the same. The car had the lowest center of gravity and the lowest roofline of any American car without sacrificing headroom, due to the floorpans being attached to the bottom of the frame members instead of the top as all previous American cars had been. While the 1934 Chrysler Airflow and the 1941 Nash 600 had been the first production unibody cars, the new Hudson was significantly more rugged in construction and offered a sleek new design that was way ahead of the competition. The new body design was termed “Monobilt” because the body structure was of welded all steel construction. The cars were available in Super and Commodore trim levels with either a Six or Eight cylinder engine. Minor changes and updates were made in 1950 and 51. The 1951 Commodore Six Sedan featured in this auction sold new at Tell City Indiana, down by the Ohio River. It remained in that area until purchased by a Hudson Club member near Louisville in 2003. The mileage was around 62k when he purchased it. The current mileage is 71,096. I believe this to be the actual mileage. The Indiana BMV insisted on exempting the mileage. There is an Indiana Title in my name. It is equipped with Solex side glass (tinted), Radio and Heater, Directional signals, a Backup Light, Visor and Ventshades, Standard shift with Overdrive and a 4 5/9 rear axle. CONDITION This car is a very nicely preserved functional car that will drive to any destination. You could start driving this car everyday. It was just treated to a Mirror finish Polyurethane repaint. I have found this to be a Very Durable finish. The chrome is all Shiny, some pieces are NOS, but all have some small imperfections. The interior was done by the previous owner in incorrect materials, but it looks great and sits well. There are four seat belts. There is a Nice Matched set of Firestone Bias ply collector car tires. There are some rock chips in the windshields and some fogging in the side glass. It is mostly Rust free, although there is some damage behind the rear wheels. The car runs and drives perfectly, except the clutch is not completely smooth. The previous owner converted it to 12 volts, because of this, it Starts instantly, has Bright Halogen headlights and Electric wipers sourced from a 57 Chevy. All of the lights and Gauges work. The Clock and Radio are inop. I think these are the only defects. I put in a new Timing chain and front seal, cleaned the oilpan, put in a new rear main seal and serviced the clutch. The brakes were done by the previous owner. The Gastank and Radiator are freshly done as well. The original rubber trunkmat is still in place. We took this car on a Hundred mile cruise yesterday. This is a whisper Quiet, matching number, Good Running 262 with Overdrive. It really runs Strong! It is currently Licensed, Insured and on the road. This car is offered for less money than most restoration shops would get for the work. DETAILS This is a Beautiful original Hudson Commodore sedan. You can drive this car to Cruise Ins and shows right now. You can get into the Collector car hobby with a turnkey car. I believe that this Hudson Commodore can be driven to any destination. It is freshly serviced and ready to go. I have done my best to make an accurate detailed description of this car. If there is an aspect that is not mentioned or you require additional information regarding an item, please E-mail or call Larry at 317-862-2020 with any questions or to schedule an appointment to inspect and drive this Commodore sedan before the auction ends. Please do not bid unless you intend to purchase the vehicle. I will do whatever is necessary to expedite the delivery to include picking you up at the Indianapolis airport or meeting your shipper.
