Vehicle Detail
1968 Chevrolet Corvette Sport Coupe; Numbers Matching; AC; 4 Speed; 137,234 miles Up for auction is a matching numbers 1968 Corvette. It is a T top model with a 327cid 350 HP engine, factory 4 speed transmission, factory air, tinted windshield, and PS and PB. I am offering it as is with a reasonable reserve due to my present financial condition and as a part of my divorce recovery. VIN 194378S425990 ENGINE ID 18S425990 V07I0HP PAINT/TRIM TAG INFO Chevrolet L18 414 Trim 976 Paint BLOCK CASTNG NUMBER 3914678 BLOCK CASTING DATE F30 8 TRANSMISSION CASTING NUMBER 3925660 I have the original 1968 Chevrolet New Vehicle Warranty booklet that shows the car was put in service on 8-8-1968, sold by Indian River Chevrolet in Cocoa, Florida to a guy that lived in Merritt Island, Florida. That guy transferred to NASA in Houston who sold it to the second owner who sold the car to me in August of 1984. I am the third owner. I also have the original 68 Corvette owners manual but do not have the original run sheet or window sticker. The car had been sitting for several years. I recently replaced the battery, flushed the brake system and installed new pads, hoses, and a new master cylinder; flushed the fuel tank and lines and installed a new fuel pump and a newly reconditioned carburetor; flushed the coolant system and installed a new water pump. The car needs some time and attention to return it to being a dependable running and driving car. The transmission shifts thru the gears well. The engine starts easily 9 out of 10 times but once and a while it has difficulty – I think it has to do with the chock adjustment on the carb or there may be an issue with the distributor or an ignition system component (but I don’t think so because most of the time it starts and runs just fine). The body has two minor flaws worth noting. One spot is where the first owner installed a CB radio antenna and the second owner later removed the antenna and filled the hole with some Bondo type material. The other flaw is a hairline crack in the fiberglass just below the front chrome bumper. Both spots are minor and can be repaired easily. The second owner repainted the car the original color but the job was less than great, or perhaps it was just that the paint technology in the 80s was not that great. What I am saying is that the car needs a new paint job and the bumpers need to be re-chromed as well. The interior of the car shows its age. I believe the seat covers and door panels are original but the carpet was replaced with like kind by the second owner. The car interior needs to be refurbished based on the age of the components. I would imagine that the AC is low on refrigerant based on the length of time it was sitting. So, I cannot guarantee that the AC works but it did before; and it is intact and functional. Right now the blower motor seems to not blow very hard so it may need a new switch or a new blower motor. It has original rally wheels/caps/rings. The car has been kept pretty much original but there are a few things that are not original, as follows. The radiator has been replaced with like kind. The alternator has been replaced with a newer version but the original wiring harness is intact. The water pump, fuel pump, and carburetor have been replaced with like kind. The valve covers and air filter cover was replaced with after market chrome ones. The original clock was upgraded with a quartz conversion. The original radio has been replaced with a custom Pioneer AM/FM cassette. The suspension is in good shape and was refurbished several years ago by using a Kanter deluxe front end rebuilding kit, installing gas shocks, and rebuilding the power steering cylinder. Turbo mufflers and stainless steel exhaust tips were also installed at that time and they are still in good condition. Also included in the sale are a one piece Astro plex-i-glass top, beverage holder, and an almost new Technalon custom car cover with a locking cable (all can be seen in the pictures). I will also give you the shop manual and assembly manual that I have for 68 corvettes. I do not have current state tags or a current state inspection sticker on the car. The exhaust system has some rust but I do not hear any leaks so I think it will pass a state inspection. The tires are not great but I think they will pass state inspection as well. However, I do not have insurance coverage on the car so I am hoping to find someone that is willing to accept the car as is – which means you will probably need to transport it rather than drive it home. The car has some age but it has not been butchered up. It does need some restoration but considering the age of the car it is due some restoration. Since the car is a matching numbers car I think it will provide a good return for the investment. Please feel free to email me thru EBay with your questions, or you can call me at 281-228-4179 (work) or 713-256-4876 (cell). Qualified buyers may inspect the car at their expense by contacting me to arrange a time to meet. I will be happy to provide a copy of the title and my drivers license before any money changes hands. The car and title will not leave my possession until all payments have cleared. The Buyer is responsible for all title transfer costs and for pick up or shipping transport costs.
