Vehicle Detail

This 20 foot land yacht is in a fine family; in just two years (1979) the end would come forever for the production of a Continental this big or this lavish. My Lincoln is a 1977 model year and has one of the last of the 460 cid engines as standard equipment. The small less desirable 400 cid became the standard engine mid year 1977 due to government fuel mileage requirements. The 400 is a wimp, the 460 on the other hand, has a sudden surge of power that only this engine can give you. You have the power to pass, and pass quickly. When a sudden burst of power is desired press the accelerator to the floor and the car will "take off like a raped ape". Pardon the colorful crude analogy; but you get the picture. Also new for 1977 was the tall Continental grill....looks like it's Mark model cousin. This car (henceforth referred to as "Ol' Brute") has only 58,277 original miles from new. It is a pristine survivor. Originally purchased and driven by an engineer from Wisconsin it was sold in November of 2007 to an Oklahoma special interest automobile dealership with 49K miles on the odometer. I bought the car from them that December. I have put 9,000 miles (6.19 miles per day or 43.33 miles per month) on the car in four years. I have made several road trips in the car in midsummer Oklahoma's 100 degree heat; I simply set my desired temperature, sit back to enjoy the smooth cloudlike ride while listening to Maria Callas opera via the factory stereo's five speaker system. My three friends enjoyed these motor trips while sitting on sofa like seats in a parlor-like setting, each having their own lighter and ash tray of course. The small cars today with six people in them would look like a staged act of clowns stuffed in so tight it would be a feat as each one struggled to disembark. Try to imagine a thousand mile trip like that. Ol'Brute has a long list of options. Of course power steering, brakes, windows and six way seats are standard on this Signature Series Lincoln Town Sedan. In addition to the list of standard options Ol'Brute has electric antenna, tilt wheel, deluxe lighting group, cornering lights, trunk release button in glove box, deluxe trim, variable speed wipers, cruise control, deluxe hubcaps and body moulding, opera windows with vynil top, air conditioning (temperature preference selector was new option for 1977), like new radial tires and special order paint. Ol'Brute is brown (very dark brown) with a bronze pearlessence that gleams in the sun. I now drive the car less than 500 miles a year; a few car shows and trips for tune up, service and occasional minor upkeep which I have always done immediately. I have been meticulous and obsessed in an "old car guy" kind of way. When I do go out for a spin people always want to talk and the kids are marveled by it. One young man saw the large cavernous center ashtray and said "Boy, people sure liked to smoke back then." Of course the tray was for cigars. I bought a new 1977 Town Car in Christmas of 1976; subsequent to that wonderful experience I have owned several Lincolns of this vintage over the last 35 years and am qualified to remark: These cars are fabulous automobiles from every angle and attribute; they are exquisitely designed and very dependable. Ol' Brute is my favorite and has been the best of the bunch. You positively cannot go wrong if you buy this automobile. It will increase in value because it is so simple to work on and repairs are inexpensive. A headlight is $2.75 and easily installed, water pump, fuel pump easily accessable, easy to tune and install new belts etc, etc.... If the gas prices do not scare you and you do not drive very far or often you could easily get 12 to 18 miles per gallon and enjoy the car as a driver. All in all it is a pleasure to drive and is very inexpensive to upkeep. I am selling it so I can buy a four cylinder Ford Ranger for my many errands; otherwise I would most certainly be keeping Ol' Brute. Terrible name for such a luxry car eh? Old car value guide it $10,000+ You can visit with me on the phone at 918-363-7628 or 918-519-1226, ask for Ken. Also, my email is kew462000@yahoo.com. P.S. I am retired so I can deliver to your doorstep for a charge equal to fuel/motel/return home expense.
