Vehicle Detail
I have for sale a 1980 International Scout 2. This Scout is a blank canvas ready to be restored. It is completely unmolested and you can customize it to exactly how you want it and not worry about fixing somebody elses mistakes/modifications. It is 4x4 with the 194 slanted 4 cylinder, 3.2 liter, which is literally half the 392(best gas mileage you can get out of a stock Scout) also probably one of the least common engines for a Scout 2 and its still International instead of AMC. I have another Scout with a crappy 304 and this 196 is in such good condition that the 196 drives just as good as the 304, manual 4 speed. It can cruise down the freeway at 65 but not up the freeway at 65. If you live somewhere flat it can cruise at 65. The Scout is also has a good amount of torque. The engine runs great and is stronger than what I thought it would be and also stays extremely cool. The temperature gauge has never got to the halfway mark, it moves but not much. The odometer says 19111 miles and the condition of everything reflects that but there is no guarantee that it hasn't rolled over once. The interior is amazing with stock leather seats. All the gauges and the horn still work, so do the high and low beams, and even has a original fire extinguisher mount and the original AM stereo that still works. Also have the original owners manual and the line setting ticket from the Fort Wayne Plant that shows all the details of the truck and shows that it was shipped directly from Fort Wayne to Las Vegas, which accounts for the lack of rust!! Also, has original rubber floor mats. Minimal surface rust in the trunk under the mat but can be sanded out easily. The exterior is in great condition but it needs a paint job. No rust in any of the normal Scout rust places, like the inside front fenders and the front body mounts underneath. There are 3 small dents, one on the rear tail gate, one on driver door and a small one on driver front fender. I got this Scout not long ago from a guy that had it sitting in his driveway for 15 years. I have used it as my hardware hauler for the last couple months. I have replaced the fuel lines, fuel tank, mechanical fuel pump and rebuilt the carburetor. The carburetor is still fussy and I have to adjust the air intake plate a lot because it moves. A new carburetor would make things easier and they go for around 300.00 This is my third Scout and by far the best one I have ever seen that isn't a complete restore. This would be the easiest Scout restore ever for somebody. I opted to not paint it and let whoever buys it paint it whatever color they want. The black paint underneath on the frame is POR15, I put it on because winter is coming up here in Nevada and I don't want any salt doing any damage underneath the truck. I have a Super Scout front grill and round headlights if you don't like the square lights in the front. I also have a spare hood that is completely stripped of paint with no dents. I also have Chevy 350 engine mounts for anybody that wants to put a 350 in it but I thought I would sell it on here before doing that because I know there are some Scout nuts that would crap a brick if there was a Chevy 350 in it even though Scouts incorporate parts from a couple different companies. I know what this Scout is worth and how hard it is to find a Scout in this condition. I have seen Scouts sell on here that are lifted and have great paint jobs but look like crap underneath due to eaten through rust. On Nov-16-11 at 20:36:17 PST, seller added the following information: I guess I left some stuff out so so here are some more details. The heater works great on the bottom but not as well through the main visible vents, the defroster works but seems a little slow. There is an A/C unit on a plate above the alternator but its not working, I don't know if it needs to be recharged or what not. Haven't looked into that because I usually just take the top off when its hot and that is my A/C but if your somewhere where it gets extremely hot than I understand the need for it. The cigarette lighter, windshield wipers, windshield washer all work. The left turn signal works but not the right, it has something to do with the lever/column, I haven't looked into it though. As for gas mileage I haven't clocked it yet but the other scouts I've had can't even come close when it comes to gas mileage. As for freeway driving it can get up to 70 on a straight road or down hill. Going up hill it keeps up with traffic on the freeway to the point where I can pass people when need be. Its not like I'm in the slow lane with everybody passing. Starting out on the freeway the Scout starts out slow but once it reaches speed it does just fine. The gear ratio is 3.73 (straight from the line setting ticket). On Nov-16-11 at 21:15:15 PST, seller added the following information: Okay there is more stuff that I left out. It has the T-19 close ratio, it doesn't have the granny gear but it is synchronized (synchromesh) and the transfer case is the dana 300, which you can be made into a twin stick. On Nov-17-11 at 14:41:14 PST, seller added the following information: One of the reasons I praise this Scout so much is because of the condition and lack of rust. I've done a rebuild on a scout that had some rust on the outer rocker and when I went to replace it I kept finding more and more spots that were rotted through. It didn't look like much from the outside but the further I got the more rust I found. It was like trying to dig a hole in the sand. It was so bad that when I god deep down the back of the rocker wasn't even connected to the body because it had been eaten through with rust. On Nov-20-11 at 17:28:38 PST, seller added the following information: Okay, I guess after I rebuilt the carburetor I didn't tighten everything down tight enough. So the carburetor is now fixed and its in perfect running condition. Gas mileage wise I can drive 200 miles and it will take the gas gauge down to a quarter tank. The longest I have driven it is 75 miles one way. I might post a video of me driving on the freeway so you guys can get a better idea of how well it runs. On Nov-21-11 at 09:41:14 PST, seller added the following information: Okay, I got the A/C working fine. There was a loose wire in dash that had to be reconnected. Works good now.
