CONDITION REPORT
Purchased brand new at Stone Buick in Clearwater in June of 1970, this Buick Riviera has spent its whole life with just two loving owners in the Clearwater, FL area.
Incredibly original from top to bottom, and front to back, this garage stored vehicle is probably the finest example of a Buick Riviera survivor in existence, and may very well be one of the finest examples of an original vintage car REGARDLESS of make, model, or brand!
The original owners kept the car for a mere TWENTY FOUR YEARS, where it amassed a scant 1,269.8 miles per month! It was then sold to a family friend when the original owner fell ill in 1994, with an actual mileage reading of 30,477 miles.
The new owner kept the car in a humidity and climate controlled garage, and drove it just over 14,000 miles in the next 17 years of its life.
Maintained to high standards, the car is so reliable and ready that I personally drove it from the prior owners home to my shop without thinking twice!
The 182 maiden voyage went fault free, and the car drove like it was 1971 and I was going on a cruise! The freeway opened up underneath the cars factory 455ci V8, and the miles ticked off one by one on the fully functional odometer! I do not believe I have had more fun driving a car then the trip that day!
Words cannot really express just how incredibly clean, straight, solid, and original this Buick is, but I will try!
The Sandpiper Beige exterior shows wonderfully from every angle, and still has a beautiful gloss and depth thanks to regular waxing and indoor storage. There are just a handful or so truly minor stone chips, light scuffs, etc. to be found on the exterior, and absolutely NO dents, damage, or prior repair indicators!
The first owner elected to have hand laid pinstripes installed on the car at the dealership when it was new, and they still show wonderfully, with only light patina evident. They are a testament to the days when people made your pinstripe, NOT 3M!
Trim on the car is in fantastic condition for being original, and the chrome gleams in the sunlight like it was still new!
The optional color matched side mouldings show light patina on the edging, but nothing horrid, and the front and rear bumpers have less than a handful of light markings on each. Mirror backs have oxidation and the start of light pitting, but still show well.
Door handles, headlamp baskets, window trim surrounds, grille, badging, hood trim strip, etc., all show fantastic, and gleam like new!
The chrome 15" Buick Ralleye wheels show perfectly, and have minor, IF ANY, marks at all on them. The Buick Road Wheel center caps show great, and have just normal light patina, while the lug nuts have light markings from installation.
Tires are Uniroyal steel belted radials, and were replaced by the 2nd owner less than 1,000 miles ago. They are wide white walls, and show damage free with no abnormal wear or cracking.
The car is shown in the photos below with the short side skirts over the rear wheels. They are in fantastic condition, and operate and install as they should. The original owner also purchased a set of ULTRA RARE dealer accessory LONG SKIRTS, which also show as new, and have full functionality.
The factory vinyl top in Beige looks incredible, and has no sun fading, damage, peeling, or tears evident in it! The color is solid and full throughout, and even the trim bands on it look new!
Glass on the car looks wonderful all the way around with NO chips, cracks, lamination issues, bubbling, or any other marks. There are a couple of EXTREMELY miniscule and almost imperceptible to the naked eye scratches if you are trying to find something to pick on, but I dare you to try and find them! The windows have been tinted by the second owner, who had light sensitivity issues but still wanted to drive the car to local shows.
Overall, the exterior of this survivor presents better than 97% of the high dollar RESTORED show cars you see, with the added caveat of being original!

Opening up the doors of this Riviera reveals an impeccable interior that may be one of the nicest original interiors of any car available!
The first thing to catch your eye is the Strato-Bench front seat with folding center armrest!
This optional power assisted seat is covered in the original Sandalwood Cloth and Vinyl with Brocade insert and it shows like new!!! No rips, tears, seam pulls, or even prior repair spots are evident, and I can't even find a stain!!!! It has got to be one of the top 10 original interiors EVER in a classic car!
From the door panels to the headliner, rear deck panel to the dash, this interior is simply INCREDIBLE!!! Even the wood insert on the dash shows issue free! This car is literally like a time capsule of originality and cleanliness that you CANNOT FIND ANYWHERE, regardless of investment level.
Door panels are issue free, package tray is issue free, dash is issue free, and even the carpet still shows as good as new!!!
The brocade inserts are so nice, you will stare at them in amazement and wonder how they possibly survived damage free for over 40 years!!!
All of the gauges and dash lights function as they should and appear to be calibrated correctly as well. The interior trim lights, kick panel lights, and warning lights all function as well.

The 2nd owner's son added an aftermarket SUN tachometer to the car along with a set of LED oil pressure, temp, and empty aux. gauge pods prior to his father taking it on a trip to Georgia and back. He took great car in NOT disturbing too much of the car, and the tachometer has just one small screw securing it to the floor, while the gauge pod has two that secure it to the metal bracket out of your sight line under the dash. Wiring has been run through the firewall using the existing grommet, so both items can be easily removed without detracting from the cars originality and appearance. The tachometer works and appears calibrated, while the LED gauges are sporadic.
This car has spent its whole life with two smoke-free families, so it is 100% smoke AND general odor free!
The tilt steering mechanism functions perfectly, and the steering wheel has just a few very light cracks in it that could be repaired, although the super comfortable wheel wrap the 2nd owner installed looks and feels great in the car.
Shifter arm and indicator pin line up perfectly.
Turn signals function as they should on the outside, as well as on the dash.
Headlamps function perfectly in high and low beam, and the foot mounted switch operates as it should. Dash switch pulls out 1 click for parking lamps, and 2 for headlamps, and rotates to adjust dash brightness.
Windshield wipers function as they should, and have relatively new blades installed.
The factory AM-FM stereo functions as it should, picks up both channel sets, and even has working memory buttons. It sounds good through the dash mounted speaker.
The factory installed air conditioning and climate control system works in all positions as it should, and the 2nd owner took it to have the freon system converted over to R134-A on 1-15-1998. The air blows extremely cold, the heater and defrost throw hot air, and it all functions issue free.
The glovebox shows wonderfully, and the car even has the rare inside trunk popper that works as it should!
Speaking of the trunk, when you open it up, you are greeted by an ultra clean, factory carpeted inside with removeable panel for the spare tire well. Inside the well is a full size matching spare wheel and tire and factory jack. The sidewall mounted clips hold the lug wrench and other items, and the prior owner installed a fire extinguisher to the back inner lid with just two small screws that can be easily removed.
Carpet is in very good, and damage free condition, and the trunk sticker tire change instructions are still intact.
All in all, the cars interior really presents like it is 1971 and you were shopping for a used car! It is a testament to the level of care this car has been given its entire life, and shows to be as good as new in almost every single way!

The monster 455ci V8 is so clean looking, you would swear it was just installed! From the air cleaner to the firewall, this is like travelling back in time to 1970 again!
Original Frigidaire compressor, HARRISON AIR sticker, GM factory stickers throughout, and even the original bead chain carb linkage, are all right here for you! The only non-factory items are the sticker for the R134-A conversion, and the small inline fuel cleaner installed to lessen the cars environmental impact by the 2nd owner.
The car has quad horn set up from the factory, and is extremely loud when you hit it!
The engine starts with the turn of the key, idles cleanly, and shows no signs of any issues whatsoever. The prior owner was fastidious in his maintenance and care of the car, and said that he would start it, let it warm to operating temp, and drive approx. 40 miles round trip every month to his mechanic for an inspection. This accounts for about 90% of the mileage he put on the car, and the rest came from local car shows and cruises. He stated that the oil was changed every 6 months regardless of miles, and I personally saw that the car was stored on a lift with the wheels off the ground in a humidity and climate controlled garage to make sure that it would be perfect forever.
The 455 is equipped with the stock Rochester 4MV 4-barrel carb, and according to research, puts out 370hp @ 4600RPM and 510 ft.lbs torque @ 2800RPM. All I can tell you is that it launches off the line like a lion chasing a gazelle, and doesn't seem to want to let up until you tread water at that triple digit mark!
The engine is mated to the factory original and correct GM Turbo-Hydromatic THM-400 3-speed automatic transmission. This transmission shifts smoothly and correctly through all gears, and is equipped from the factory with the optional 3.42 final drive.
The transmission, as well as all other fluids, was also changed at regular time intervals if it needed it or not, to make sure that this time capsule of a car would be around to share for the next centruy. It exhibits no sign of any issues or problems, and is as happy in town as it is when flying down the highway at 80mph.
If you are like me, you will be absolutely mesmerized the first time you start looking around this car in person. It is utterly fascinating to see a car that has been so lovingly cared for and maintained that it still shows almost like new today! 40+ years later! I have seen two year old cars in a Target parking lot that this Rivera makes look like beaters!
Underneath, the car is super clean, tidy, and rock solid. The only thing your eyes will tell you is not original is the full custom stainless steel exhaust system routed from the factory header pipes back. It was installed at considerable cost by the second owner because he wanted a bit more of a rumble from the V8. Pipes were routed in factory locations, and it could all be taken back to original without much trouble should you elect to do so. The car sounds like a healthy V8, and is not that much louder than stock. It just has a mellow burble now when you rev the motor.
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN OF RUST, ROT, FRAME DAMAGE, PANEL REPLACEMENT OR ANYTHING ELSE ON THE BOTTOM OF THIS CAR!
It is all correct, factory original, and shows as though it were only a few years old! If you put this car on a rack, and spent some time wiping and detailing it, you could probably make it look like new again! It shows only dirt and grime from normal use, and NO DAMAGE OR ISSUES WHATSOEVER!!!
Power steering works as it should with no known issues.
Power brakes work as they should with no known issues.
The second owner said brake pads and a cleaning was done less than 1000 miles ago, and the car will literally pitch you forward in your seat if you stomp on the pedal, so I tend to believe it! Also, a visual inspection done when the car was safety checked showed all pads/shoes and rotor tolerances to be at 75% or better!
The car drives down the road great, and exhibits no signs of any issues, handling miscues, or anything else. I would not hesitate to fly in and drive this car home ANYWHERE in the lower 48! It is ready to roll, and would be one heck of a road trip story to share!
