Vehicle Detail
Up for EBay auction, my 1974 Vega GT. It's a fun little car to ride around in. It easily gets as many or more looks and comments than my other cars that I've had over the years. You just don't see the Vegas around anymore. I found the car last year it had been sitting in storage since 1980 out in Perris, California. I have the original California Blue plates for it, with the 79 registration sticker. The car is currently registered and I drive it any day that the weather is good. It is garage kept and comes with a waterproof car cover. The car is not rusty, just little tiny spots here and there, but very well preserved. The car has the original paint, interior. The paint looks good from about 15-20 ft (depending on your vision, lol), but up close it's not great. The body is straight, but has little dents, dings, and rock chips that any car that was driven for 6 years would have. It is not bad for a driver, but not a show car ... gets thumbs up rolling around though without burning much gas. :-). I have replaced or repaired so many little things on the car to make it a dependable driver that I don't know where to begin. It runs great, not a powerhouse, I put in a motor from a 73 Vega, it was rebuilt about 2000 miles ago. The guy was putting a V-8 in his, so I snatched it up. It's getting good mileage, I'd estimate it to be in the mid 20's mpg. I'm running a conservative carb (monojet) and it's an economy cruiser, yet still has plenty of power to get up and go. I never wanted to have any overheating issues, so I put in the biggest radiator I could find, it was made to cool a V-8, so it seems to work really well. Engine has all new hoses, fanbelt, new battery, cables, vacuum lines, plugs, points, coil, condensor, electric fuel pump, and water pump. I replaced every fuse and lightbulb, headlights, windshield wiper blades ( actually the whole windshield was regasketed, as well as the back Hatch seal) on the car, fixed little things all over the place. Lights work, windshield wipers work,Horn works, original cig lighter still works, the original AM radio seems to be in working order, but the original speaker is toast. I've just been riding around listening to the car itself for a while. The factory tach isn't working right now, not sure what's up with that. The brakes (front disc) are all new on the car, new calipers and pads up front, replaced the hoses. New shoes on the rear. New wheel bearings all the way around.Emergency break works great. The transmission was in the car when I bought it (motor was not). It's a 3 speed manual. Works great, shifts fine, has a brand new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and clutch cable..The car has new tires all the way around and a spare in the back on original ralley GT wheels. The interior is pretty nice. NOT show car quality, but original nonetheless. The original carpet is worn near the driver's foot area. I put some black floor mats in and it's presentable, but not perfect. The seats are OK, the original cushions arent worn, but the material on the driver's seat is starting to split here and there and is patched to keep things together, so it could use a recover. The passenger seat looks better, but has one split in the bottom cushion. The back seats are perfect on the front but the top and back were toasty when I first got the car. I put new carpet in the back section and on the back of the rear seat as a fix. The dash has two small little cracks. Original owners manual in the glovebox. The driver's seat belt is worn and has a split up near the retractor. The seat belt has to be fastened in if you are sitting in the driver's seat to start the car (the original "interlock" safety system Chevy had at the time, which still works). I also put in new rear hatch support shocks Overall the Vega is a fun driver. It has some creaks and moans like a 40 year old car will (I've been driving with no radio for a while), but the Vega drives nice and straight and cruises anywhere. With the 4 cylinder up front the car actually turns, corners and drives good. My friend had a vega way back in the day and my Dad had a Pinto, and mine handles like what I remember the cars from that era driving like..I..'m meticulous (to a fault) and I wanted the car as close to a stock factory Vega as possible, so thats what it is. So check out this Vega, I've tried to list everything I can think. I have an extra aluminum case Vega Powerglide transmission with shifter, linkage, vacuum line, everything but torque converter that I will include (for free) if the buyer wants it. Good luck and happy bidding. The car could be driven home ( within reason) or can be shipped anywhere, I can assist you in that. I sell worldwide, and live near the port of Long Beach, CA
