Let’s talk about future investment potential for a moment. The car before you is a 1999 Shelby Series 1 automobile and is one of only (249) of such vehicles produced. It is numbered as CSX5004 and is car (#4) from the factory. This gorgeous Shelby has only 450 miles since new and is absolutely mint from front to back and from top to bottom. The Series 1 is the only car ever produced by Carroll Shelby from a clean sheet of paper, and built from the ground up. All other Shelby automobiles are re-engineered models by other manufacturers and modified by Shelby. With a carbon fiber body, sophisticated chassis and the Oldsmobile 4.0 liter L47 DOHC engine, it was considered a modern reincarnation of the 289 Cobra. It was the first Shelby built with a Shelby-designed chassis, body and suspension. Weighing 2,650 lbs., the 320 hp sports car goes 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, 12.8 seconds in the quarter-mile and has a top speed of 185 mph, which is actually 15 mph faster than the 427SC Cobra! The Series 1 has dual wishbone suspension w/ coil-over remote reservoir dampers mounted inboard and actuated by “rocker arms”. The engine is mounted completely behind the front axle and drove a drive shaft supported in a “torque tube” that spins a 6-speed ZF trans-axle specially modified for the Series 1. The chassis is made of extruded and formed 6061 aluminum. It was welded together and then post-heat-treated for maximum strength throughout. Then specially designed aluminum honeycomb panels were bonded into the floorboards and rocker panels for added structure and stiffness. The body panels are carbon fiber and fiberglass laminate. The engine, torque-tube, trans-axle and damper mounts are all rubber-isolated from the frame. This fully optioned Series 1, CSX5004, left the factory with Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Factory Air Conditioning, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Electric Mirrors and an AM/FM/CD Audio System. Again, it is in mint condition throughout and with only 450 miles on the clock, she’s basically brand new. The Convertible Top is folded away and is in brand new condition like the rest of the car.
