The more powerful 500 SL with 5.0 liter engine, only 1297 were produced in 82, this car was not available in the US through Mercedes-Benz ; however, it was popular in the "gray market" imports. This car is a Non-US car, stated on the American title issued to the car when it was imported and modified to meet the California emission standards and regulations--California certified sticker is on the driver's side door opening panel. The 500 SL is recorded as being the fastest production 107 produced (mostly because of the lack of emission restraints) The 500 SL was published by Mercedes-Benz as having 0-60 mph times of 7.4 seconds for a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph). Torque for the 500 SL is 296 lb•ft (401 N•m) at 3200 rpm and for the 560 SL 287 lb•ft (389 N•m) at 3500 rpm. Recently (May 2011) the car went through a very thorough service; repairs were done to the entire engine, rear axles, transmission, etc.. $5383.58 in parts and labor--receipt will be provided. Very detailed maintenance records going back to 1999--from the second owner. The car was originally a white car, it was painted blue years ago. There are some areas, the engine compartment, where you can still see the white color. Other then the small blemishes the paint is considered a 20 footer. The entire undercarriage is completely rust free, with most of the "factory" under coating in perfect condition. There are NO signs of this car being in any accident from the entire frame, body panels, sub-frame, bumpers, and quarter panels. The trunk, rear floor, and front floor pans are exceptional too--No rust anywhere. The hardtop is certainly in great condition, the rag top (soft top) is in excellent condition with a clear rear window too. The car does have A/C and yes it works. The original stereo was upgraded, the interior is leather which was dyed to the current blue color. No rips in the leather. The wood is in fair condition. The dash does have the hard cover over the original dash--so I do not know what condition the "original" dash is in--the cover is glued in place.
