Vehicle Detail

Up for Auction: 1953 Studebaker Commander NO RESERVE!! This California car was purchased from the Famous ACD-Auburn Cord Duesenberg Auto Auction, in Auburn, Indiana, in September -1995 by Jack F. and was part of the Goodman Collection. See picture for a scan of the auction card from the sale. Jack purchased this vehicle as a dream to own the same type vehicle as he did when he was a teenager. After Jack purchased the car, he had duel exhaust put on by Fair Muffler in September of 1995, receipt available. The exhaust and a set of spark plugs was just about all he has done. He drove the car only a few hundred miles, if that, since he purchased it in 1995. It has been housed in a dry garage and covered since his purchase. Jack's now 68 years old. The desire to relive his teenage years through this classic has faded. Just before I took pictures of the car, I removed his 1964 and his wife's 1968 High School Graduation tassels from the rear view mirror and handed them to him. I listened to his stories about his owning a car just like this back in the day and having lowered that car from his teenage years, low enough that a dime could barely fit between the car and the ground. I could tell this car meant a lot to him. He has decided to sell this and is downsizing his belongings and relocating. This car will have to be picked up from Fort Wayne, Indiana-ZIP 46815. I will not be able to make the shipping arrangements, but I will be able to help load the vehicle if needed. This vehicle was last titled in California on October/31/1972, as seen in the picture of the California pink slip. The title is being switched into Jack's home State of Indiana so it can be sold. This should be completed on 11-1-2011. A fuel receipt shows gas was 42.5 cents a gallon in 1972. Wow. THE CAR: The pictures of the car were taken after a simple wipe down with a towel and no attempt to hide anything has taken place. The pictures should show that this vehicle has a very solid body and trunk. The floor boards in the car are solid with surface rust and original carpet flooring dry rotten in the front foot areas. The rear carpet is fair and the seats and dash are all original. The car seems to have been undercoated long ago. The car has been painted sometime in its life, certainly before 1995 when Jack purchased it. There are a few glazing marks(cracks-spiders webs) in the paint. The drivers side door glass has a crack in it. I would expect a true collector will appreciate the overall completeness and solidness of the classic. Jack mentioned he believed that the car has a few extra options on it such are chrome reverse light bullets on the trunk lid and the chrome front bumper bullets. The car is equipped with title matching V-8 motor, automatic transmission. I installed a new 6 volt battery on October 29th, 2011 and gave the car a shot of starting fluid and it fired right up. The radiator top seam-tank has a small leak after the car warms up. The right front tire was low and I aired it up. The separate white wall has formed a ripple in it and will smooth out with time. The complete right front hubcap is in the truck to complete the set of four three piece hubcaps. I would suggest new gasoline and a complete go through on the vehicle be done. The car has only gotten only approximately 500 miles on it since 1972. I will be happy to answer any questions or get the answers from Jack F. just let me know. Serious Bidders Please!! The car is being sold with NO RESERVE!! This car is being sold AS-IS with No Warranties Implied!
