Vehicle Detail

Scimitar SS1 (1984–90) The chassis was inspired by Lotus's Elan. The 1.3 L (later replaced with a 1.4 L) and 1.6 L engines were Ford CVH units, front mounted driving the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox on the 1300 and 1400, and a five-speed gearbox with the 1600. The suspension was independent all round using coil springs with semi trailing arms at the rear. The body panels were made of polyurethane or glass reinforced polyester, fitted to a semi-space frame backbone chassis. The panels were designed to be easily removed and replaced to repair accident damage. A removable hard top was available as an option. The SS1 1.6 L had a engine capacity of 1596 cc with a power output of 96 bhp (72 kW; 97 PS) @ 6000 rpm and 133 lb·ft (180 N·m) @ 4000 of torque and could reach 110 mph (177.0 km/h) and accelerated to 0-60 mph in 9.6 seconds.[4] In 1986, the range was joined by the CA18ET 1809 cc turbocharged engine from the Nissan Silvia. The 1800Ti, as the Nissan-engined version was known, received standard alloy wheels and a small rear spoiler and gave the car a significant performance boost with a power output of 135 bhp (101 kW; 137 PS) @ 6000, 143 lb·ft (194 N·m) of torque which provided for a top speed of 126 mph (202.8 km/h) mph and 0-60 mph in 7.6 seconds.[5] This car had unusual uncovered rectangular Porsche 928 style pop-up headlamps and shared many components with production cars of the day. It is currently one of the most affordable small sports convertibles on the second hand market.[citation needed] The post 1986 with a galvanised chassis can be identified by a single windscreen wiper. Here is my classic British convertible, -fantastic for the Summer! Possibly the only one in the USA? Relisted after no contact or response from ebayer: tom7767589gm. His contact details are junk too. I have been using this Scimitar SS1 convertible as my daily runner. I drove it from its landing in Galveston to New Orleans without any problems. It has been well cared for, with the last couple of owners being members of the Reliant Sabre and Scimitar Owners' Club. The Scimitar SS series have Lotus-style front suspension with inboard shocks. This little car corners extremely well! On a galvanized chassis, with plastic body and a Ford CVH 1300cc engine and manual transmission, - it's in very good structural and mechanical condition. - proven by passing it's UK MOT with no advisories. However, as can be seen by some of the photos, the overall cosmetic condition shows it's true age. The paintwork has numerous scuffs and the bonnet is suffering from microblistering. The seats are also looking a little tired no rips or tears, just wearing thin - however these are the only bad points to the car. As for the engine, it is fitted with the original VV carb and a K&N 'Supercharger' air filter, -together returning great performance for a little engine but with excellent fuel economy; >35MPG. The exhaust is from the 1800Ti model, meaning it sounds like a rocket! As I say, I use it everyday, - it starts on the button (in any weather), with no smoke, hesitancy or misfiring and it gets up to temperature quickly, sitting as it should - with the electric fan also working well. This car will drive anywhere. All the electrics are functional; the pop-up headlamps, lower spot lights, heater fan, etc. -Even the drivers' and passenger seatbelt warning light works! As can be seen from the photos, I have fitted a set of classic white Opel Manta alloys, on recent tires, all with excellent tread. The steel spare is also present. The vinyl hood (with a removable rear window) is in very good condition; water tight and with no cracking or fraying to the stitching. It also comes with a tonneau cover, again in great condition. There is a passenger wing mirror available, to be retro-fitted (factory fitted with one mirror). Also has a new cam belt as a spare. Clear US title is present in my name. In all, a fantastic and reliable little car, suitable for everyday use or just some fun in the sunshine!
