MECHANIC'S SPECIAL ! ! ! ! PLEASE READ COMPLETE DESCRIPTION BEFORE BIDDING ! ! ! ! Up for auction is this very nice 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with the Comp G (Competition Group) option package with 122k miles. The Comp G option package was only available on the GTP and the major things it included were the chrome 17” wheels, the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, heads up display, the red painted brake calipers, a special suspension package, a lower final drive gear ratio of 3.29:1, a top speed of 142 mph ( the standard GTP was 126mph) and a few other things. Overall this car is in very good condition and drives great. It has the Supercharged 3.8 series 3 engine. It is fully loaded, as you can see in the pictures, with pretty much every available option including, power everything, leather interior, power sunroof, Moonsoon stereo system, OnStar and the list goes on. The tires are in really good shape with about 2/3's tread left. The interior is in excellent shape with the only defect being a small tear on the left side of the drivers front seat, probably from sliding in and out of the car. The paint and body, again, is in really good shape as well. It has 2 or 3 small door ding type dents here and there, the front bumper has a minor scuff beside the fog lamp on the passenger side and there is a scratch on the decklid just below the rear spoiler. It's about 6 inches long and has been touched up. Now for the “mechanics special” part. First off, I bought this car a couple of months ago, it was a bank repo and needed a few repairs. The left rear door glass was busted out, which I replaced. The power steering pump, the steering rack and the valve cover gaskets were all leaking. So, all that was replaced and is in good shape now. The problem now is, at a certain rpm range, the engine speed will surge up and down. It's most notable when you first start it up when it's cold, the engine idle will surge up and down between about 1000-1500 rpm. After about 30 seconds, when it warms up a little and the idle drops back down to around 800-900 rpm, like normal and it smooths back out and idles pretty good. Even after it warms up, if you press the accelerator down just a little to get the rpm back up to about 1300-1400rpm, it will start surging again until it reaches about 2000 rpm, then it's back smooth from 2000 rpm on up. So, it only does this surging when the rpm is between about 1400-2000. Nothing seems to be affected, unless it's in that rpm range. If you are on the highway cruising at 70 mph or so, you don't notice anything. But, if you drop down to say 55 or 60 mph, then you feel it because at that speed the rpm is under 2000. If you take off from a stop and are accelerating, you don't notice anything, it runs very strong and has all the power it's suppose to. Only when you are cruising or driving at speeds with the rpm in that rpm range do you feel it. I was told it might by the EGR valve, but it checked out ok. I did play around with the and noticed when I unhooked the wire from the EGR valve, the surging went away. So, I thought that was the problem, but the problem was still there after I put a new valve on. I drove it around for a while with the EGR valve unhooked and it actually ran fine, no surging or skipping, but after a while the check engine light would come on. When I hook my scanner up to it, the code comes up as a faulty EGR circuit. I have also gotten a code for a random misfire on cylinder 3. I erased that code and it's gone, but after driving it for 2 or 3 days, that misfire code will come back on. I've checked the injector, the coil pack, the spark plug and wire and found no problem there. But that code just comes on randomly not consistant. Maybe it's something simple that I have overlooked, but I have too many other projects going on right now and I don't have the time or money to keep putting into this one. So, I've just decided to cut my losses and sell this one AS IS. Overall, aside from the problem I just described, this car is in really good shape and drives great. This problem doesn't seem to affect anything driving on the highway and I wouldn't be afraid to drive it anywhere. Please email with any questions.
