Vehicle Detail

1968 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 (Please read carefully) This is a real beauty I have owned for the past four years. The history of this car began in Bristol TN purchased by a gentleman that used it in his work. It appears from his own records the car was parked in his basement garage sometime in 78 or 79 and remained there until it was bought (given...) to an amatuer dealer. He had the car repainted, fixed the obvious problems and put on the current wheels and tires in 2007. I purchased the car and the fun began. I grew up driving a car very much like this one, my parents car, so I wanted to revisit again. It wasn't time before I discovered the dealer I purchase it from was looking to make a buck and did a very poor job getting this car back on the road. Needless to say, quite a bit of work had to be done to recover from sitting for nearly 30 years. My efforts have focussed on mechanics. The car is in very original condition and wanted to leave it that way. I won't get into all the details but as you can imagine, every system had issues from sitting for so long. The gas tank was removed, cleaned and coated, sending unit replaced, new fuel pump, carb rebuilt... The cooling system was rebuilt with all new parts, radiator, heater core, water pump, T-stat, hoses, clamps... All fluids were drained, flushed when possible, engine, trans, rear end... and filled with proper lubricants and Lucas products. I replaced the ignition system with an HEI system and new "Live Wires", plugs... This was done to improve reliability on long trips as well as increase overall performance. The suspension was completely rebuilt with new Moog parts, springs, bushings, ball joints, sway bar links, all steering linkage, inner/outer tie rods, cross link, idler, pitman, new KYB shocks... Brakes redone with new liners, hardware kits, rubber lines and master cylinder. New dual exhaust with resonators from Midas with reciept. Cosmitically, I have done very little. A new top, some buffing and cleaning but not much more. I have not attempted to clean the carpets or seats, not my speciallty and didn't want to risk hurting the original condition so I will leave that up to the next owner. I wanted this car to be a daily driver that I could take to shows and events with no issues. It has been that and more. I drive it north 200-250 miles one way every couple months to visit friends. The car rides like it was new, runs near perfict and is quite the expereince for those that have the same memories as I growing up. I'm not a fan of the wheels and tires since they do nothing for the original ride. These older suspensions don't like the wide tires but my daughter said she liked the look and her friends think it is cool so I left them on but added the Olds emblems. So for the things that could be improved. The paint job looks fine but the rear deck/trunk aparently had some poor prep and the paint has bubbled. (See picture) It is located only on the rear deck and I haven't felt like spending the time to improve. The air conditioner does have a charge and the compressor comes on but no cold air. Needed the heater first so I never got to the AC. I have all the parts needed to rebuild (see picture) including a new compressor and conversion items for the far more resonable 134A refrigerent. Any reputable auto AC repair shop can do this or you can do it yourself. The rear deck fiberboard cover was beyond repair. I have been using a blanket. Just never got around to making a new one. Simple fix. I also will include all the original parts, 15" rims, hubcabs, distributer, steering wheel and an assortment of other parts that are hanging around, car cover, assesories... Please be aware, this car is fourty years old and has not been restored. I have spent far more money than the starting bid but consider the return in the pleasure of driving. It has been made reliable and safe to drive and the original cosmetic condition has been maintained. Though it is quite the head turner, do not expect show room condition. I drive this car daily and you can drive it home regardless the distance. A lot of work has gone into the car but always to retain the original look and feel. The chrome has some pitting but polishes nicely given the time. The interior is original and has some blemishes. I ebay for the fun of it and I have tried to describe this car as best I can. Please review my feedback and bid with confidence. If you have questions, please ask. A $200 non refundable deposit is required 24 hours after end of auction. Balance due within a week "IN CASH" at pick up. Title is in hand and in my name. I will work with you on pick up and can meet near lexington to make things simple. If you have little or no feedback, negitive feedback you must email me first to discuss or I will cancel your bid. Thank you and happy bidding.
