Vehicle Detail

Up for sale today is my pride and joy. My 1970 Ford Torino Cobra. I purchased this car in 2000 from a guy in Indiana near the Illinois line. The car was 75% apart but 100% complete. Here is how the car lived its life It was built on November 17, 1969 and sold from Town Ford Sales in Redwood City California nine days later. It was repainted white within the first three years of its life and broke a couple of pistons within the next two. The car then sat outside under a carport on a military base until it was sold and sat in a body shop in for the next decade and a half collecting dust and paint rings from a couple dozen pints/quarts of auto paint. Then it was sold to the brother of the guy I got it from and eventually he got it from his brother and trailered it to Indiana. He then lost interest in it and listed it for sale on the TorinoCobra dot com website. That is where I found it, called the guy up and struck a deal. That is why the mileage is so low. The Marti report is included in the last picture. I inventoried all the parts on the car as I loaded them into the big Penske box truck with the trailer on the back for the shell and the rest of the parts. When we got the car back into Mass my father and I emptied the contents and photograpghed almost everything. The previous owner was nice enough to bag up everything he took apart and label the items for location. I had my body guy check the car over when I got it stripped so we could get a ball park figure before it was baking soda blasted. Again lots of photos. We were pleasantly surprised when I picked it up from aquablasting , this was definetly a California car when it was on the road. No rust or rot to speak of except a one inch by two inch piece in the rear quarter behind and in front the wheel on the drivers side. Thats it, nothing else period, look at the pics. The body work finally commenced and was finished to a point so I could bring it home and take care of the drivetrain. The front suspension was totally rebuilt with name brand parts ( moog and trw) and Heim joint front strut rods were used from street or track because if the major improvement in ride quality and steering response. The original engine was rebuilt using the best parts I could get for a fairly stock rebuild. The block was never wounded and only needed a 0.030" overbore to clean up the cylinders where the pistions broke. When it was apart we decided to use a 460 crank to get the 36 extra cubes from the overbore and available speed pro flat top pistons. the rods were resized and 460 crankshaft ground .010/ .010 . The block, crank, rods and heads were fully crack checked with a wet magnaflux machine, just like the major parts in an aeroplane, Thanks Dad and Aerospace Testing Lab Inc. It has a hydraulic Comp cam in it that has a little lope to it. Factory super c/j intake with the correct 780 Holley scj carb. Factory c/j exhaust manifolds and factory 2.25 exhaust copied from NOS parts from Perogie Enterprises and Dave Eichner from Precision Restoration. Chrome reproduction tips and factory style mufflers round out the rest of the system. I rebuilt the original numbers matching Cobra Jet C-6 to stock Cobra Jet specs with the addition of a little looser converter. I was a Senior Master Ford Tech with 15 years of experience when I rebuilt it. It is without a doubt the best shifting C-6 I have ever driven. All stock Ford no shift kit. The rear axle was 100% original when I put the cat on the road last late summer and was a 3.00 open 31 spline n case, that was very quiet and lots of fun on the highway. I had a 31 spline 3.50 trac loc complete center section sitting under a bench so I installed it this past spring. The car is fun to drive with that gear and the big block it will pass just about anything but with a trade off in gas mileage. The original 3.00 open N-case will be installed before the car leaves my posession. The Cobra was brought back to the bodyshop in April of 2010 and the decision to paint the whole car in state of the art PPG waterborne base with uerethane clear was made. The car came out of the bodyshop in the last week of June 2010 and was on the road for its maiden voyage / shakedown cruise in early August 2010. The Paint and Body work was performed by Don Roy's Auto Body and Appearance Center. I can't thank them enough, The Cobra came out phenominal and gets many many compliments wherever I bring it. Even the PPG rep was impressed enough to tell the owner and the painter at the shop. This is the second complete car they have done for me and at least the tenth that they have done at least a partial on. There are a couple hundred pics on my photobucket account which will be linked to this auction : http://s1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/loadedcobra/70%20Cobra%20Loaded%20Cobra/ Drivetrain- Original numbers matching vin stamped 429 A cast thick webbed block. All Original engine internals, DOOE-R C/J heads, factory Rochester quadrajet and cast iron intake, uncracked CJ exhaust manifolds. 100% complete shaker assembly with snorkle, Uncracked original CJ valve covers ,correct CJ baffled oil pan, CJ fan and original water pump. The original vin stamped Cobra Jet C-6 with the cast iron extension housing, R-servo and yellow dipstick tube were also there. The correct driveshaft and the correct 9 inch rear with the original N-case and 31 spline axles still installed. This car also appeared to have a dealer installed tow hitch also. Body- The body was 99 % rust free being a San Jose built car and with it residing in Redwood City California while it was on the road certainly helped keep it that way. This Cobra still has all of its original sheetmetal that it rolled off of the assembly line with. The only item that was replaced was the battery tray because I had an NOS one for it. The sheetmetal under the tray is original and rust free. The bumpers were rechromed and the brackets were blasted and painted . All the stainless trim around the front and rear windows and on the rain gutters is original to this car and were repolished to a brilliant luster. The top of the door chromes are 1 nos and three rechromes very very nice. The parking lights, side marker lights and bezels are all NOS FORD along with the tailight bezels, lenses and the Cobra grille ends and Cobra snake transfers that were used with the locating marks so they are perfect. Interior- The original material on the seats were replaced with reproductions and the seat frames were cleaned, painted, reburlapped and new foam was installed. The original headliner was replaced with a new one along with the sound deadener on the roof. All the trim around the windows was cleaned, detailed and redyed. A new ACC carpet was installed. The center console was cleaned and detailed. A low mileage dashpad was used along with dash trim parts. A NOS Blue Rim-Blow wheel was used in the restoration along with an NOS steering wheel center support pad. The NOS Rim-Blow wheel has the blue switch just like the original sun cracked wheel had. Being an early production car this has the rare verticle emblem in the pad instead of the round one. All 4 original door panels are in great condition with new window felts installed all the way around . I had to replace two power window switches and used an NOS lock out switch. The power window bezels are very nice. All 4 power window regulators were cleaned, degreased and freshly greased prior to being reinstalled in the car. The power windows operate quick for a 40 year old car and are just as fast as a new car. All the locks/keys/ignition cylinder are brand new. An NOS Autolite ignition switch was also used. The lower dash on the car needs to be replaced, the radio hole was cut by one of the previous owners. I have the correct uncut replacement that is even the correct color. I have the original am/fm radio for the car and the front speaker cups, the original rear speakers are still in the car and all the original am/fm speaker wiring and fader is still in the car. All the weatherstrips have been replaced with nos and reproduction pieces. The windshield is a brand new ppg/ pilkington piece with no markings so if you wanted to have the Autolite script etched it could be done and look correct. I have the original 5-slot Kelsey-Hayes wheels that the car rolled off of the San Jose line with . I have the original date stamped wiper motor that needs to be detailed and installed. Car has a new heater core in it and I have the original underhood a/c components which will go with the car. I'm sure i am forgetting a few things so I will add to the description as needed. Feel free to ask any and all questions before bidding. Feel free to call with any questions before 10pm eastern standard time 413-575-7753 or email them.
