Vehicle Detail
1978 Ford F-250 Ranger Lariat Supercab Short Bed. This is a pretty rare truck as very few F-250 Supercabs came with a short bed. This is a super nice truck. It was recently featured in Custom Classic Trucks magazine. I've used it as a daily driver off and on for the last year or so. This truck was totally rebuild last year and has about 6000 miles on everything. Lots of money spent on it. I have tons of paper work including the build sheet and window sticker. It was sold new in Kansas. Absolutely rust free. I wouldn't consider this a show truck but it's a very nice driver, though it did win its class at the F-100 Supernationals in Pigeon Forge, TN last year. It made the 14hr round trip just fine also. Runs, drives, rides, stops great. Even though this truck is lowered 3"/4", it rides and drives just like a stock truck, it still has the stock springs. It probably rides a little better now because some of the overload springs have been removed to soften the rear. They rode very rough from the factory due to all the leaf springs in the back. This truck came with the Camper Special package from the factory so it has all the equipment to tow pretty much anything. Everything works and including the A/C. Here are the details: BODY: New PPG Base/Clear paint with extra metal flake 100% rust/dent free Shaved emblems/mirrors Louvered tailgate (101 Louvers) Very nice bed with color matched spray in bed liner New aftermarket rear bumper New windshield All original trim in good shape. INTERIOR: Original door panels, headliner, rear seat cover, & dashpad. New front seat cover New Carpet Cold A/C Pioneer CD player & speakers Auto Meter Carbon Fiber oil & temp gauges under dash Vintage tach on column Intermittent wipers DRIVETRAIN: New crate 460 Weiand Stealth Ram intake Mild Lunati Cam Edlebrock 750 Carb Carter HP fuel pump 2 1/2" Exhaust with Turbo mufflers Dual Tanks with new switching valve New TCI Streetfighter C6 trans TCI Converter Finned aluminum deep trans pan Aux trans cooler Dana 60 rear end New bearings 3.73 gears CHASSIS: 3" Drop beams in front with poly radius arm bushings 4" Drop shackles and hangers in rear New power steering pump and lines Power steering cooler 4 Wheel disc brakes 96 F-250 wheels New ford caps 215/85/16 front 235/85/16 rear Heavy duty hitch with 7 round and 4 flat trailer plugs Kelsey Hayes hydraulic brake controller under dash The door jambs on the cab were painted along with the exterior. The door jambs on the doors were not painted, they still have the original paint along with the rest of the interior cab. Lots of people have asked about the bottom of the doors, apparently these trucks are really bad about the drain holes in the doors clogging up and causing the door to rust out. This is not the case on this truck, the drain holes look clear and there is no rust through on the bottom of the doors. The original seem sealer on the bottom of the doors is starting to get dry & crack and chip. ( it's been on there 33 years!) If this bothers you(it doesn't me as I've never even noticed it until I was asked too look) you could probably cut out the old seam sealer and re-apply new sealer without any paint work. I would leave it alone though. I have some left over paint that will go with the truck. I have base coat for both the blue and silver on the exterior. I have the charcoal for the engine (single stage) and I have some spray in bedliner and the silver tint to go along with it. I do not have any clear coat or extra metal flake left from the exterior. The under carriage/chassis has not been detailed, It's in driver condition, which means it hasn't been painted or restored but is still in good shape. Here's a list of things that could use some attention if you wanted to get picky: 1. It could probably use a new door weather strip on the drivers side. The passengers side is good but I'm getting a little wind noise from the drivers side when driving with the windows up and the A/C on. 2. If you park it for a while (week or so) it drips a little oil, about the diameter of a coke can. I think it's the oil pan, may just need the bolts snugged. 3. One of the exhaust pipes seems to be hitting a crossmember. It only rattles on a cold start up and low idle, but then goes away once the engine smooths out.
