Vehicle Detail
Classic vintage racer for sale! BMW 1976 R90S. This is the year and bike that won the US AMA Superbike championship. The bikes came in 1st and 2nd. The R90 was BMW's first model to come with dual discs up front a huge improvement over the single and drums of the past. This is as TT smoke silver model. Picked this one up in California as it wasn't getting the attention it deserved. Original purchaser was from daytona are in Florida and and aircraft mechanic. Loved the bike and kept the bike in prime mechanical condition. The previous owner told me that the guy in FL was incredibly meticulous about maintenance and really took care of the engine doing all the necessary work on time and always going the extra mile for it. Fellow I bought it from got it from him and had it shipped out to California and rode it regularly until he bought a R100S and this one got covered for about a while 6 months before he was ready to sell her. Gas tank could use a touch up here and there but is in really good shape, no dings or dents. Has all the right work done to it: Brevetto Tarozzi Italian fork brace Progressive fork springs Koni adjustable rear suspension New Avon tires under a couple hundred miles on them throttle lock for the highway Upgraded ignition to electronic points less system Heads have hardened valve seats to accommodate for unleaded gas Perfect compression. 155+ on both pistons Krauser racks and luggage system with keys aftermarket Deep oil sump alway ran synthetic Mobil oil Factory steering dampener Infamous Dellorto's pumper carbs work flawlessly This bike has always been covered or garaged and has been beyond reliable for me, I've put under 400 miles on it and wanted to restore it to what it deserves but life and work got in the way. This bike has never left me stranded, always fires up perfectly, shifts as good as any airhead I've ridden, rides straight at 80mph on the highway with no hands and is a true dream to ride. All controls work flawlessly and lights, voltmeter and clock work in dash. Final drive has zero leaks and drive boot is in perfect shape. Seems to have a tiny tiny oil leak but I think I just slightly overfilled it. Things that you need to make it perfect. Front bikini fairing needs to be replaced or repaired and painted, this one has a small crack in the front because the bike got knocked over once in the garage by the previous owner. New seat pan, one hinge broke off but I still have it and the all important pin is still intact which is the usual culprit. Speedo works but needs to be calibrated, tach doesn't work nor does the odometer. video and pics available here: http://smg.photobucket.com/upload/albums/spyderse86/?location=r90s I commute on a 01' bmw f650 dakar and the R90s leaves it in the dust. I've never floored this bike and I still feel like I'm going warp speed when I ride it. This bike is a seriously great mechanical runner just needs a little polish. Sorry no tool kit with this one but factory pump included! For sale locally as well so I reserve the right to pull the listing. Buyer pays shipping or can pick up in San Francisco.
