Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1968 Chevy Camaro Convertible 6-cyl, 2-speed automatic transmission. Previously restored to excellent working condition (2+ driver using the 1-5 rating where 1 is a show car and 5 a parts car) in 1994, but has been stored (outside under cover) since 2000. Needs restoration once again; a great project car probably in condition 4 now. The car is all original, except for an aftermarket stereo and alarm system. The power hydraulic top still works fine, but the top itself is now showing some age to it. The matching number engine was rebuilt in 94 and still runs fine; approximately 33K miles put on engine since rebuild. The front end suspension and brakes were all rebuilt in 94 along with a new exhaust system. All the glass was replaced along with a new grille and chrome bumpers (now peeling). The wheels are original as well as the wood grain steering wheel. The dash pad is also original and in very good condition. The original restoration involved replacing and mig welding quarter panels, rocker panels and front floor panels. After years of sitting, some rust spots are showing up, especially in the rocker panel areas. The inside rockers were never replaced, but should be now along with new outside rocker panels to strengthen the car's unibody construction. The floors are still welded to the upper rockers, but the floor supports need the inside rockers to complete the unibody frame. The rails are solid both front and rear as are the floor supports. I have more pictures of the underside of the car and upon request will send them. Overall the subframe is solid as evidenced by the doors opening and closing w/o binding at the pillars. There is a leak in the transmission, but haven't found out where. I suspect a dried out gasket or loosened pan bolts somewhere, otherwise transmission works fine. Front seats need new covers and new rugs are also going to be needed. As for the rust spots, they are located along the top right fender near the fender hood line caused by battery corrosion and only involves the fender (about 10" or so) and not serious and as mentioned rockers need to be replaced. Other than that, every panel is solid straight metal with no bondo fill. Bright work (Stainless) is in excellent condition, but the chrome on the quarter window's leading edge is pitted as are the taillight bezels. Driver's side door internal mechanism needs to be freed up to open the door. There is no convertible boot. Door edge, pillar, hood and trunk lines are excellent. Also 4 new tires of the same type shown in the pictures are included. The original radio as well as two brand new interior door panels that were never installed are included. This car is definitely restorable and wouldn't take much to get this cream puff back to the pristine condition it was in 94...a blast to drive! That little 250 engine is pretty quick with the 2 speed Powerglide transmission. Please serious bidders only! No reserve! On Sep-10-11 at 16:22:01 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: We managed to get the inside door panel off today and with a few shots of WD-40 got the linkage operating again, so the door works perfectly now. Also took some more pictures, so drop me a line, if you would like to see them. Thanks for bidding! Paul
