Vehicle Detail

Hi You’re looking at a 1985 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas sedan. It shows 135,239 miles on it. It could be a nice driver with relatively little work, or it’s a good candidate for restoration. After winter storage it loads up at throttle application when cold, but runs ok after it warms up a few minutes. It probably could use fresh gas and a tune-up. The brakes work well, even the parking brake. The transmission works fine. On many of these cars the steering rack slips back and forth on its mounting bushings, causing play in the steering wheel. The rack mounting on this car has been shimmed solid and it steers well. The wheels are Dayton wires. According to an Ebay-er who replied to a prior listing, they were an option, made for Jaguar by the Dayton Tire Company. Most of the VDP models came with this option in 85, 86, and 87 and they are worth a least $600 a set of four. At the starting bid you're getting the wheels at a discount and getting the car free! The spare is an OEM Jaguar alloy wheel. Two tires were new last year. The other two have good tread and even wear, but have some weather cracking and should be replaced. The following electrical equipment is non-working. Most of the problems are likely dirty switch/relay contacts or fuses, but have not been diagnosed. Gas gauge Power antenna Left rear window Sunroof Climate control The alternator is weak. (I'm including a core unit from an '87 XJ6 VDP that you can rebuild and install.) There may be other minor items (interior lights, etc.) that I haven’t noticed. If power is jumped directly to the sunroof motor the motor runs, but the roof doesn’t move. Cause is not known. The sunroof is open a crack, hence the tape visible in the photos sealing the seams. All glass is good. The floorpans, rockers, trunk pan, front fenders, and entire lower body areas have no rust issues. The rear fenders have holes / soft areas above the wheelwells. Why there? I have no idea, but this area is relatively easy to repair. The interior is decent, not perfect. It’s not show-quality, but very useable for a driver. The dash and console wood could use refinishing. Better (near-perfect) used door wood is included. The stereo in the pictures has been removed, but a 1985 OEM Jaguar AM/FM/Cassette unit with removable faceplate is included. Even the OEM leather faceplate carrying pouch is there. Later model 4.2L Jaguars can have problems with the tappet guides loosening in the heads. You can research this online. The engine does not appear to have this problem. It has a light valve tap at idle when cold. It could be the start of the above issue, or it might just need the valve clearance adjusted. A tappet guide hold-down kit is included just in case. You can decide whether or not to install it. Also included are both Haynes and OEM Jaguar shop manuals, a valve cover gasket set, and the Jaguar special tools needed for either a valve adjustment or installation of the tappet guide hold-down kit. Shipping is the buyer’s responsibility. I will fully cooperate with the shipping carrier to get it loaded. It can be driven onto a car-carrier. Local pickup is ok. I will accept full payment by Paypal. Thi car is also for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells locally.
