Vehicle Detail
1972 Triumph Spitfire MKIV on a 72 Triumph GT6 MK III chassis. This project was started in the mid 90s by a collector in the Midwest. It lived with a gentleman in Colorado for a few years and miles. I bought it about 8 years ago - it has been inside and getting "finished" and enhanced since then. Before I got it the Spitfire body first underwent a total strip and refinish in single stage paint. The convertible body was then expertly fitted to the GT6 chassis. With this comes better brakes, IRS rear suspension and a more sturdy transmission and rear end. The 2 liter GT6 engine, transmission and overdrive were totally rebuilt. Competition springs, heavy sway bars and Koni shocks were added. K&N air filters/housings were added. A Crane XR700 electronic ignition was wired in. Body fasteners were replaced with correct thread stainless nuts, bolts and washers. There are 5 matching, perfect 8 spoke racing style alloy wheels on Bridgestone A/S tires. The unique door windows and vent wings are from the GT6. When I got the car it needed just a bit of "refreshing". I rebuilt the SU carbs, added an electric fan system, replaced all the fuel lines and radiator hoses, installed a new fuel tank, installed a new battery and cables, installed a high watt GM alternator, installed a new OEM master brake cylinder, replaced the rear brakes and brake cylinders, replaced all the interior panels with new British parts, installed a custom spec rosewood dash from Carl Visser, replaced the windshield seal and trim with a formed British pieces from SpitBits, added carpet and a tire cover to the trunk, added a real stainless British racing mirror, installed a DUAL brand CD/ipod unit but left the speakers un-installed, installed a high torque geared starter and finally replaced the seat covers and foams with hard to find British pieces from SpitBits. After all that I am very satisfied with the results. The car starts, runs and drives beautifully. BUT we are now planning a move to Idaho and I will need an " all weather" sports car. So the convertible GT6 or CGT6 will need a new home. The finish is very nice on the car but not perfect or "concours" anymore so you can drive it and not worry about the first nick or chip. Also included are 2 boot covers for both hardtop/softtop and softtop only use and a ebay find tonneau that was made for use with an optional rollbar( the car does not have dash or door snaps for tonneau attatchment). EVERYTHING works- horn, lights, signals, heater, wipers, gauges and overdrive. Most parts are easy to find online or from Spitbits. This is a car you just won't see ANYWHERE. I have a clean Colorado title in hand. The car can be seen locally in Paradise, Ca . I know this car very well and can answer detailed and specific questions. I have extensive local and national references if needed. I have and will include all the early receipts and documentation for the project and most of those for my work. A fully restored color matched factory hardtop is available to the buyer for an additional $750 and can be shipped with the car. If you have less than a 5 buyer rating please contact me before placing your bid. This Triumph is sold "as-is" so please ask questions before you bid.On Aug-18-11 at 12:41:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Yes, my Spit6/CGT6 has overdrive from the GT6 with the switch on the shift knob. It was rebuilt during the first restoration session. On Aug-23-11 at 20:11:51 PDT, seller added the following information: The bidding is getting very close to the reserve but still only about 1/3 of what has been put into this car since the resto and conversion was started!
