Up for auction this week is a beautiful Triple Black 1978 Cadillac Seville Elegante in great condition inside and out. Seville was the best American luxury car to own, and also the most expensive American car sold in the US in 1978. Heres a bit of info about this rare car: Introduced in 1978, the Seville Elegante offered Cadillac customers qualities and refinements one might expect on a custom-crafted automobile. The duo-tone exterior finish was offered in just two color combinations, a subtle dignity exclusive to the Elegante. A full-length brushed chrome upper body molding accentuated the Seville's classic lines, and featured an etched black grooving for added distinction. Chrome Elegante script was placed on the roof sail panels, just behind a Cadillac wreath and crest emblem. Authentic chrome-plated Wire Wheels (not wheel covers) with long-laced spokes were supplied by Dunlop, a British firm, and set the Elegante apart from others. A Cadillac crest appeared on the hubs, set against a black background. The Wire Wheels were also available optionally on other Cadillac models, except for the Limousines. A unique rear window molding provided additional detailing. This car is even more rare and desirable because it was one of less than 5,000 Seville's produced with the Elegante package that year. The body panels are all very straight and rust free. Underneath is also in very good condition with totally solid floors, trunk, fenders, and rockers. This car has never been exposed to bad weather. The two tone Ruidoso Saddle Brown and Western Saddle Firemist paint combo on the car looks stunning! All fillers are in excellent shape with no cracking or damage. The chrome on the car is very good all the way around with no pitting and all of the trim shines like new. Overall condition of the exterior is a 10 out of 10! The car is riding on its original Dunlop true spoke wire wheels. These wheels came from the factory as part of the Elegante Package. They are wrapped in like new Firestone FR380 radials. The interior is in great shape all around. The original Antique Saddle leather seats are in like new condition. The door panels are in excellent shape with zero ware. The carpets are all original and very very nice and have been professionally cleaned. Even the original floor mats are in good shape. The steering wheel is original and in quite good condition and has the original leather wrap still in great shape. The dash and instrument panel is in flawless condition and looks like new. Headliner and visors are in perfect shape. All of the accessories are in perfect working order including all switches, lights, turn signals, climate control, twilight sentinel, guide-matic, cruise control, radio and 8-trck, windows, locks, and even the original clock works perfectly. Overall condition of the interior is a 9.5 out of 10 with 10 being fresh off the lot in 1978. The trunk retains all original carpet and looks stunning. The inflatable space saver spare has never been used and still has the original can of inflator. All correct tools and lug lock are also in the trunk. The previous owner also had a 6 CD Changer installed in the trunk. Mechanically, this little Seville runs very well. The car starts right up and shifts smooth as silk. The car passes Arizona emissions with flying colors. The A/C blows cold and all climate controls work correctly as well as cruise control, and the auto air leveling suspension. The car tracks straight and true down the road and drives great. Cooling system works great and keeps the car running cool. The previous owner had the car serviced at a local Cadillac dealer a few years ago and had the fuel injector o-rings all replaced as well as new oil seals and fully overhauled the disc brakes front and rear. Other than that routine oil changes have kept this little Seville running like a champ. All in all, this has to be one of the nicest, low mileage 1978 Sevilles still in existence. Throw in the fact that it is a super rare Elegante, and you have one fine collectors item. In a time when Cadillac's were big, sluggish, and unsure of their future direction, this midsize broke the mold and pointed Cadillac's future for years to come.
