Vehicle Detail
Looking for something different. Looking for something that will make people stop and look. Looking for something that is a consistent trophy winner. Well look no further. 1946 Dodge Pickup Resto-Rod. This is a 1997 restoration that was done in North Carolina. I bought the truck in the spring of 2007 and have freshened it up considerably over the last 4 years. It is an all steel truck with the exception of the rear fenders and part of the hood. I have the original steel hood. It sits on a 1984 Chevy S-10 chassis, with power steering and power brakes (front disc). So it has a modern comfortable ride. New tires in 2010. The engine is a Mopar 318 with a high performance Edelbrock cam. Recently replaced the old manual choke carb with an Edelbrock 4 barrel with electric choke. The engine compartment is very clean with a fair amount of chrome. In 2009 I had the exhaust headers ceramic coated. It has Flotech "Red Hots" mufflers, which gives it a nice throaty rumble, without being too loud. The transmission is also Mopar, A904 3 speed automatic. This past winter changed from a column shifter to a Lokar floor shifter. The interior is from an '87 Ford Ranger. It was redone in 2007. Looks new. The carpeting and headliner are in perfect condition. The steering column is from an '84 Buick Century. It has a Classic Instruments "Vintage" gauge cluster. It has the original working heater which was an option in 1946. AM/FM Radio/Cassette. I redid the bed in 2009 with oak and an antique Victorian steamer trunk from the 1870's. Also added side rails which are replicas of the side rails on the Dodge Warlock pickup from the mid 70's. The chrome bumpers are from a '79 Volare. The paint is in excellent condition. It has a few nicks on the front, but that is to be expected after 14 years. You have to look for them though. This is an extremely clean, good looking, one of a kind truck. Different than all the Fords and Chevys from the 50's that you usually see. It is a driver and you can depend on it. It cruises nicely at 65mph. The longest trip I've taken it on is 70 miles, round trip 140. I've done that several times. Never a problem. The only reason I haven't taken farther, is because I don't want to expose it to any bad weather. It never has since I've owned it. Overall I've tried to make the truck look as original as possible at first glance. It's been featured in the local paper (LI Newsday), and there is a video on their website. Go to Newsday.com and search for 1946 Dodge. If you want me to take more detailed pictures of any part of the truck, I would be glad to. Just ask. Call Chris 631 786 2265
