Recently purchased from only the second owner since its restoration and build just over 3,800 miles ago, this one of a kind Apache combines the best of old fashioned looks with a contemporary and reliable drivetrain!
The end result is nothing short of amazing, and gives you a 1955 Apache reliable enough to drive ANYWHERE, all the while collecting trophies at any car show you stop at!
Professionally built /restored just 8 years ago, this truck has spent the past three years living in climate controlled storage while amassing a collection of trophies from the Florida car show circuit that would make a Heiseman winner jealous!
Starting off with a super clean and solid metal 1955 cab and bed box and an unlimited checkbook, the builder decided it was time to do a little chassis upgrade.
A 1979 K-5 Chevrolet Blazer chassis was found with low mileage, and a super clean powertrain. The body was separated from the chassis, and the whole thing was transported to the shop for a refurbishment.
The frame was bead blasted, primed, and treated with DP all around to make sure it stayed solid forever.
Custom body mounts for the Apache were carefully measured, fit, and bolted into place.
Since it was all apart to begin with, the builder elected to replace all the tie rods, bushings, bearings, etc. on the chassis before putting it back together again, and everything was installed with brand new shocks and brakes at all four corners as well.
The stock blazer 4x4 system was in exceptional operating condition, so it was just cleaned, serviced, treated to new seals and gaskets, and reinstalled.
The original 5.7 liter 350 v8 motor had only 45,xxx miles showing on the odometer of the blazer when it was removed, but it was completely disassembled and rebuilt with all new seals, gaskets, finned valve covers, new short style headers, custom intake manifold, Edelbrock performance carb and breather, Custom radiator with full size electric fan, aluminum transmission cooler, and a complete Vintage style A/C system with modern compressor converted to R134.
While the chassis was being completely gone through and rebuilt, the donor body was completely stripped and taken down to clean bare metal. From there, it was cleaned, sprayed down with DP to pretect it in the future, and prepped for paint.
There appears to be only the smallest amount of filler used anywhere on the truck, as the panels are straight and solid steel all around. No patched areas can be found, and the truck is ALL STEEL all around. A magnet sticks ANYWHERE on the surface of the truck. This is NOT a chicken wire backyard build!!!!
Once the body was primed and ready, it was treated to a beautiful Maize Yellow TCP finish in multiple coats. This finish was done originally about 8 years ago, and when the last owner took possession of the truck in 2008, he wanted something with a little more punch, so he had the exterior of the truck resprayed with a killer looking Lexus Pearl overlay that really catches the Florida sun, as well as the glow of the streetlights!
Once the paint was set and done, all new door seals, front and rear window rubbers, and the like were installed along with a mix of new and original glass, trim, and emblems.
The glass is all in good to great condition, with no cracking, lamination issues, or chips. The rear window does have a few light hairline scratches that any professional window polisher could proably remove for a minimal investment.
Vent windows on both doors operate as they should, and clasp closed properly.
Now it was time to place the Apache body on the newly refurbished Blazer chassis.
The fit and finish of the custom fabbed mounts is amazing, and one look at the detailed undercarriage shots below will show you that it almost looks factory in finish out and quality!
Everything lines up perfectly, the center lines of the wheel hubs and fenders match up as they should, and the entire package comes together in such a perfect way, it is hard to imagine that over 20 years separates the body from the chassis!
Once everything was bolted up securely, the task of rewiring the truck and making sure everything looked as cleanly done inside was tackled.
The dash was refit with new style old-school gauges, which are all calibrated and appear to be functioning as they should. The gauges include TACH, TEMP, OIL, WATER, and AMP.
A modern electric wiper system was utilized, and it operates the NOS chrome wiper blades as it should.
A factory GM tilt steering column was installed and custom fit to the cab. It has tilt steering, column mount hazard button, turn signal, and cruise control. It is capped buy a real wooden style steering wheel with multi spokes that looks great, and is super easy to turn thanks to the GM power steering the truck is equipped with!
The quality of the build is evident even when you look at the time and care taken to install the underdash components, column, A/C and heat box and controls, and the carpeting. It is laid out just so, with everything looking almost factory in appearance!
Bringing the truck down from speed is no problem thanks to the refurbished GM 4-wheel power brake system that was taken from the donor blazer!
The four wheel drive shift arm comes through the floor in the original factory spot, and functions as it should. The locking hubs have been lubricated and turn as they should.
The headliner and seat are finished in a rich, tobacco brown leatherette that still shows like new, with no stains, tears, rips, or seam pulls.
Carpeting is a heavy gauge weave style in a complimentary brown with brown edging. It has been tacked to the floor over a layer of sound and heatproofing material, and still shows wonderfully, with only the lightest signs of use.
Heavy duty rubber floor mats protect the front carpet area, as well as a small matching set behind the seat for protecting cargo you may place in back. Also behind the seat are a pair of custom speaker boxes that work in synch with the chrome covered center mounted speaker upfront to supply great sounding music courtesy of the retro styled AM/FM cassette deck with digital tuner.
Carpeting runs over the entire floor, but was left off the back wall to make room for a gun cabinet that was in place, but not included in this auction.
Glove box is functional with a small storage area due to the A/C system taking up some of the space.
Window rollers, door armrests, and door pulls are original units and look great while functioning as they should.
Doors are both lockable via included key.
The cab is super comfortable, and has plenty of room for three full size adults. Thanks to the under bed gas tank which was new when restoration began, the cab has room for a driver and/or passengers up to 6'5" in height!
Once that was done, it was time to pick out the rolling stock for this one of a kind piece. American Racing was tapped for a set of show chromed 6 blade spoke rims with AR center caps. They are still in very good condition, and only show the faintest signs of light patina and oxidation near the hubs.
They are wrapped in a set of almost new Yokohama Geolander A/T tires that were installed less than 500 miles ago and still look like new! They are raised white letter tires sized 32x11.50R15 all the way around.
The exterior trim on the truck is a mix of old and new, and the grill, front and rear bumpers, and headlight and front signal surrounds all look to be in very good to exceptional condition.
The bed was finished with new wood 8 years ago and treated with water resistant stain, and the lack of a tonneau cover and Mother Nature have worked to give it an incredible patina while still keeping the wood hard and useable. There are no signs of it splitting or softening, only a rustic look that really shows well in person.
The bed trim slats still show wonderfully, as does the hardware used to install them.
The bed sides were treated with DP and spray lined to makes sure they would outlast anything that was thrown at them. It worked, because they are solid from front to back.
The truck is an absolute blast to drive, and it gets more thumbs up, compliments, and pictures than almost any of the other crazy vehicles I have sold!
It handles and drives like a new 1979 Blazer must have, is comfortable at highway speeds, and easily to handle in a WalMart parking lot too!
Braking is solid and sure, and the truck comes down from speed without any unusual chatter, wander, fade, or excess modulation.
The cooling system does its job, as I have driven this truck over 100 miles and not had it even START to overheat on me, even in the Florida summer sun with the A/C blowing!
Speaking of the A/C, it is colder than most NEW cars I have been in! I found myself using it on the lowest fan setting, with the vent window cracked beacuse it will FREEZE YOU OUT! Like I stated above, it is all modern components and has been converted over to the new R134 refrigerant already!
It starts up with a turn of the key, idles cleanly, and has a nice mellow rumble thanks to the dual exhaust with Cherry Bomb style mufflers and chrome tips.
The truck has had a full safety inspection, and as of the date of this listing, the following items functioned as they should with no issues:

This truck is a fun to drive, easy to operate machine that is ready to show or go, and I see no reason that it could not be driven daily.
The paint finish shows the usual collection of stone chips, tiny scuffs, paint chips, and some areas where the sun has started to fade the clear, but overall, a quick review of the 100 photos below will let you see that it is still a fantastic looking machine that still snaps heads like a chicken farmer when it goes down the highway!
I have driven it in town, and on the freeway, and find it to be equally well mannered in both environments. Gearing is more suitable for 65 mph cruising and in town driving, but it holds its own on the freeway, and a quick gear change could make it quite the freeway flyer!
In summary, if you are looking for a professionally built, totally custom, and really nice looking and driving Old School truck with modern running gear, you can't do much nicer than this one.
