Vehicle Detail

1965 Plymouth Valiant Barracuda. A-line, fast back. This was my grandpa's project that he didn't get to complete. He stored it outside under a tarp for several years; I've had it stored in a garage for the last 12. No one has even opened the door of it in 12 years! Has all three, intact badging (Plymouth, Valiant, Barracuda - see photos). Rear 14.4 sq ft window in perfect condition. Light covers, molding, bumpers in good condition with no cracks or missing pieces. (Currently has a tow bumper on the front, but actual bumper is included.) The interior is in excellent condition. There are boxes included which contain the original hub caps (I think a complete set) and many extra parts. Vinyl seats have minimal wear and tear, and interior carpet has been replaced. It has the original 4 cylinder engine. There is also a 225 slant 6 engine, from the same plant, same year, so a similar VIN, is included in this auction. 1965 had option of either engine. Vehicle is not running. Body is mostly rust free, some nickel-sized surface rust spots near two wheels. Under-carriage has rust. The front axle is broken so it has been flat-bedded whenever moved. It was last running in the early 90's, no one has really tinkered with it since. Sorry, but this is all the information I know; you may know more! No parts have been sold off of it, any piece not connected to it currently is inside the vehicle in a box. The VIN listed here is what is on the title. The original title has been lost, this one is a replacement. For serious inquiries, I can get the actual off of the dash. The pictures should provide the best information. Mileage is an estimate. ***Just to clarify, it is evidently not an axle that is broken/not working, rather a steering mechanism has been removed but is still with the car. (This project was abandoned mid-restoration.) On Aug-05-11 at 22:12:10 PDT, seller added the following information: ******* PLEASE READ******** Due to a lot of questions about the vehicle, I requested more information from my brother. The below corrects some of the information above, specifically ENGINE SIZE AND TRANSMISSION!!!!! ********** Sorry to add this info late! This is a 1965 A-body Valiant Barracuda fastback, only 64,596 1965 Barracudas were produced. The Valiant logos are appropriate for the year as the Barracuda was a package for the Valiant before it was its own production line. (1967 was the first year that the Barracuda was spun off as its own production line.) This 10-digit VIN number is complete for a 1965. Letters were not added to the VIN number until 1966. The VIN identifies the car as a (1) Valiant (8) Barracuda (5) 1965 (7) built in St. Louis, and was the 155044 Valiant produced. 1965 saw 167,153 Valiants PLUS 64,596 Valiant Barracudas for a total of 231,749, so this car was produced about 2/3 of the way through the 1965 production run. The Barracuda was a package on the Valiant line until 1966. Beginning in the 1967 production run, it became its own model to compete with the Mustang. From my recollection, this car was originally BEIGE (this is based on what my Grandfather told me when I was 6 years old.) Installed engine is a 225 CID slant 6. The installed transmission is a 3-speed, shift on the column, three-on-the-tree, manual. The extra engine is the other engine option for the 1965 model year. It is a 273 CID V-8 4bbl manifold with an attached automatic transmission. The extra transmission sitting by itself is a 4 speed manual that was also an option for the 1965 Valiant. The rear 14.4 sq ft window in perfect condition, which was the novel idea of this car, produced in cooperation with Plymouth and PPG. Light covers, molding, bumpers in good condition with no cracks or missing pieces. The interior is in excellent condition. There is at least a full set of Valiant hubcaps. Right now the front bumper has been replaced with a tow bar, but the proper front bumper is included and can be seen in the photos. The interior is the original vinyl with minimal wear and tear, and interior carpet has been replaced. You can also see the original interior Valiant badging, which was eliminated from the lineup when it became its own line in 1967 instead of a package on the Valiant line. This Barracuda includes THE ORIGINAL OWNER'S MANUAL (believe it or not, see photo) showing the original delivery date was 10-08-1965 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. My grandfather took ownership of this vehicle in 1981. The odometer is a 5 digit odometer and reads 40448.4 miles (visible in one of the photos). According to the title, the odometer has rolled over, so there is at least 140448 miles on the car. This Barracuda is not running right now. It was last running in the early 90's, no one has really tinkered with it since. Body is mostly rust free, some nickel-sized surface rust spots near two wheels. Under-carriage has some rust as one would expect. No parts have been sold off of it--any piece not connected to it currently is inside the vehicle in a box. The only moderately significant issue is that the front driver's side wheel has either a broken tie rod or some other disconnection in the steering linkage. That is the only reason why this car needs to be transported on a flatbed. This was my grandpa's project that he didn't get to complete. He stored it outside under a tarp for several years; I've had it stored in a garage for the last 12. No one has even opened the door of it in 12 years! I have the Nebraska (duplicate) title for this vehicle in hand. Buyer is responsible for pickup or making other arrangements to get the car. Please make full payment by cashier's check within 7 days of auction close. I will answer questions about this vehicle to the best of my family's and my recollection. Please be understanding that we may not be able to answer specific questions you may have about this car since our grandfather knew the most about it, and he passed away in 2000.There are a few more pictures available if you need.
