THE BEST OF THE BEST!
This incredible full custom resto mod Mustang was recently aquired by me, and is being offered for sale for the first time EVER to a Worldwide audience right here on eBay.
A fully documented 7 year restoration and build out that was completed in January of 2009, this incredible Mustang has literally swept the floor with its competition in the 5 NMRA and MCA events it has been entered in throughout the South East region of the United States.
With over $40,000 invested in a complete and total body-off-frame build, this one of a kind Mustang captures the timeless looks and charm of the 66' Stang, with all the comfort, ride, handling, and performance of a modern day street rod!
The build started wasy back in 2002 with the aquisition of a ridiculously clean 67,000 original mile Mustang that had been lovingly cared for and shown by its previous owner at Sunday shows and local cruise nights. Although it was a solid 8 out of 10 in overall condition, the new owner realized that the best place to start a full on custom build is with the nicest, straightest car you can get, so the 7 year build out was started!
After the entire car was completely disassembled, everything was closely inspected, and ANY part that was not in grade 9 condition or higher was discarded and a replacement ordered. Everything that did pass was completely cleaned, refurbished, and set aside for installation at a later date.
The entire frame was bead blasted, checked for any damage or issues, then treated to a full DP finish to protect it down the road.
The factory rear end with its 2.80:1 axle was completely torn down, and rebuilt with all new internals, seals, and gaskets. Then it was also cleaned and sprayed in stock chassis black.
A complete new performance leaf spring kit was ordered and installed, along with a racing rear sway bar out back, and a show chromed Monte Carlo bar and Export brace upfront.
Needless to say, at this time, all of the bushings, bearings, rods, nuts, bolts, and fittings were either replaced with NOS components or had the refurbished originals placed back.
All new performance series shocks were installed, all U-Joints were replaced with new ones, and the drive shaft was rebuilt and balanced before being put back in.
Braking system was completely redone with a full Master power front disc brake conversion kit with racing style dual master cylinder. New drums out back handle there duties with retro good looks.
***I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT AT LEAST 80% OF THE PARTS ON THIS CAR WERE BRAND NEW WHEN IT WAS RESTORED!
Once the chassis was completed, it was time to address the powertrain for this Pony car. The stock, numbers matching 289ci V8 and C-4 transmission were in great operating order, but there was a need for speed, and something a bit more stout in the transmission department, so everything was completely torn apart and rebuilt or replaced to create the ultimate combination of power, reliablity, and authenticity.
Starting with the motor, the entire unit was taken completely apart down to the last washer, and everything was inspected to make sure that only the best parts were kept for the build.
YOW'S PERFORMANCE SPEED & MACHINE were tapped for the machinework and engine built, due to the vast history of racing experience and stellar reputation as one of the finest machine shops in the Southeast.
The bills for the machine work ALONE are over $2,000.00 and include the performance camshaft grind, full block clean, valve job, block bore, finish hone, head resurfacing, exhaust port hump removal and polish, and much, much, more!
The car is equipped with a custom ground Edelbrock Performance cam, Edelbrock Racing Aluminum manifold, and tune matched Edelbrock Performer 1406 600cfm electric choke carb.
All new Fel-Pro racing series gaskets were installed, and then the FORD C60E 302 heads were placed on the block.
The heads have a 3-angle valve job, screw in rocker studs, machined valve spring seats, 5/16" guide plates, Crane locking rocker adjuster nuts, Doug Herbert dual valve springs with dampners, intake ports that have been gasket machined to Fel-Pro 1250 race gaskets and blended in, 58.4cc combustion chambers that have been polished to cut back on detonation, 1.78 intake and 14.45 exhaust, and performance machined rocker arms.
These were capped with Ford Racing SBF aluminum valve covers with "MUSTANG Powered by Ford" cast into them that were also brand new.
Once again, E V E R Y T H I N G on this motor was about 80% brand new, or completely rebuilt and refurbished during the restoration.
ARP hardware, a FORD racing chrome 80amp alternator, fuel and oil lines, sending units for temp and oil, Pertronix ignitor and Flame Thrower coil, all engine wiring, hoses, lines, cables, etc. etc. were completely replaced and documented down to the freaking part numbers in most cases!!!
Once the engine was complete after its 18 month build and assembly, it was time to move on to the transmission. The stock C4 that the car was born with was just not going to be enough to handle the new power output of the car properly, so in its place, a TCI SIZZLER performance transmission was ordered and taken to YOW'S for some tightening up before installation.
Equipped with a TCI automatic valve body with a Valve Body Improver Kit, it allows you to achieve a firmer, yet not too harsh shift in the vehicle and remains fully automatic. This transmission also retains the stock shift pattern. All throttle linkage, vacuum lines and kickdown components were connected properly to make sure everything operated as it should.
The Sizzler transmission features special clutches and bands, improved lubrication system, chrome-plated, TCI logo transmission pan, increased thrust capacity, more torque capacity with less slippage, as well as being TCI factory blueprinted, inspected and dyno tested.
A MOROSO extra volume pan was installed as well.
To make sure the original shifter could be utilized, the original C4 linkage was cleaned and reinstalled. It also had a cool shifter lock put in that allows you to lock the shifter in place with the included key for an added measure of security.
Cooling this car down was of utmost importance in the hot Florida sun, so no expense was spared in selecting the cooling components. Absolute Radiator in CA was tapped for one of their high performance all aluminum racing radiators by Fluidyne. This unit is made from aircraft grade aluminum and features a 3-row oven brazed core with NO epoxy!
A brand new performance series water pump was installed, and a a Red's Racing 17" stainless fan helps keep things running at optimal temprature.
All of the cooling system lines are powder coated red stainless steel units that look great, and help with heat dissapation.
Stainless steel headers with a full custom fabbed exhaust were installed, and give this Mustang a healthy rumble and nice bark when you whomp on the go pedal!
Of course, ONCE AGAIN, I need to remind you that at least 80% of all the parts used down to the hose ends, nuts, and cable guides, were ALL BRAND NEW in this build!!!
Another requirement for a Florida car is ICE COLD AIR CONDITIONING, and not a dime was spared in making sure this car had the coldest air in town!
The factory air conditioning unit was blowing cold even after all those years, but it just would not cut it to spend so many tens of thousands of dollars on the rest of the car, and neglect this important comfort item, so out it all came!!!
The underdash box was pulled apart, cleaned and reassembled after all new custom fabbed lines, hoses, and wiring were fit. All the old sticky A/C tape from 1966 was laboriously cleaned away, and replaced with new ultra modern reflective temp tape like your neighbors Camry has.
The new lines were routed to a brand new evaporator and brand new condensor, and all of it was connected with all new lines and wiring to a rebuilt compressor that was then converted over to the new R134 refrigerant.
The air conditioning on this car works FLAWLESSLY, and it will freeze you out if you are not paying attention! Out of the hundreds of rods and customs I have been in, not one can compare to the efficiency and ease of use this system has. The compressor, being an old style unit, does have the typical noisiness you expect from the vintage units, but it is kind of nice to hear!
Finally, a RED TOP battery was elected to power everything, and to tidy things up and keep it looking like new, practically every bit of hardware and mounting bits was replaced with new pieces. Lastly, a complete hose sleeve kit was installed to really pull it all together.
The entire car was professionally rewired to operate on 12 volts with upgraded fuse panels, lines, and looming.
And now, a brief public service announcement:
"LET'S GO OUT TO THE KITCHEN
LET'S GO OUT TO THE KITCHEN
LET'S GO OUT TO THE KITCHEN
AND GRAB OURSELVES A SNACK"
Hope you took some time do that, because we have ALOT more to cover on this incredible one of a kind machine!!!
Once the chassis and powertain portions of the car were completed, it was time to mate the body to the frame once again. BUT WAIT, you ask, where has the body been?!?!?
Well, since the process was started and it was first removed from the chassis back in 2002, the whole thing was undergoing a complete overhaul at West Coast that took over 3 years and and over $9,500 in parts and labor to make it the Mustang Club of America show winner it is!!!
The super solid all steel body was stripped down to bare metal, and carefully brought up to the tightest tolerances of fit, finish, and smoothness. Countless hours of labor were spent on the car - NOT FIXING RUST OR DAMAGE, but simply correcting the myriad tiny flaws and fit issues the car had from the factory.
The underside of the car is incredibly original, solid, and issue free, and was refinished in a mix of chassis black and DP to make sure that it stays as nice as can be forever!
After it was gone over, primed, and prep sanded to the point where everything was about as perfect as it could be, it was turned over to booth, and coat after coat of correct Wimbledon White Ford original color paint was lovingly applied and hand sanded until it looked showroom new. Then, and only then, were liberal coats of clear applied, and the wheel set free to buff that finish to sheer perfection all the way around.
The white on this car is the slickest, smoothest, glossiest, and cleanest finish I have ever seen on a white car, and it is a testament to the skill and attention paid to it by the restorer. It still shows wonderfully, even after being finished in 2004!!!!
Even after a few years since completion, the car shows like new, and has only a handful or so of truly minor and miniscule marks to show from being driven. Most of these are tiny stone chips, etc., and NOTHING on the car could be considered damaged or in need of repair. I am talking hairline scuffs, a miniscule mark or something of that ilk. THE CAR SHOWS LIKE A 9 out of 10!!!
To give the appearance a retro flavor with a twist, newer style Running Pony decals were applied on the car for a modern touch. They look fantastic, and really feel era correct.
Once the body and paint were complete, the task of installing all the glass, trim, emblems, and other parts was undertaken. 90% of the exterior parts on the car were either brand new and documented, or exceptional original components. California Mustang Parts were tapped for OEM pieces encompassing everything from the front bumper screw nuts to the NOS fuel cap and practically every single part in between!
There are about 15 pages of parts and accessories from them installed, invoiced, and documented on this build, and it goes all the way down to brand new moulding screws!!!
All new felts and rubber seals were installed, and all new weatherstripping as well. Glass is a mix of original pieces and new, but all of it still shows like a new car with no damage, lamination issues, or problems to be found anywhere.
Trim, emblems, bumpers, grill assembly, handles, mirror, cranks, door pulls, bezel surrounds, the running horse, hood letters, parking lamps lens and shrouds, light seals and fuel door gaskets.....the list goes on and on and on!!!
ALL NEW. ALL STILL LIKE NEW.
The original pieces that were used, like the door handles, side scallop trim, and antennae base, show only light patina and aging. The worse parts on the entire car are the chrome trim around the vent windows, and the slide on chrome trim on the rear quarter windows. They show oxidation, light bubbling, and should really be replaced eventually to meet the rest of the cars appearance.
In a tribute to Shelby and the venerable GT-350 cars, a set of fully functional HELLA fog lamps were installed with era correct brackets in the grill insets. They look fantastic, and really set off the cars appearance.
Opening the trunk reveals a full size temporary use spare tire with the original tire cover that matches the original trunk liner!!! All are in exceptional shape.
Lifting the liner reveals one of the cleanest, original, and solid trunk pans I have ever seen! Everything is like new, and it is ready to go to a car show and WIN right now!!!
Last but not least, rolling stock needed to be selected for this one of a kind Mustang, and they came from the FORD family, just a few decades newer than the car is!
The car rides on 4 brand new 16x7 OEM 2005 FORD Mustang wheels equipped with BF Goodrich Traction T/A tires sized 215/65R16. The wheels were new car take-offs with 2 miles on them when installed, and they still show like brand new with no damage, curb marks, or clearcoat issues. The tires have less than 3,000 miles on them, and show like new, as well as damage free.
The Mustang logo tri-bar center spinners look period correct, and really help set the car off.
Overall, the outside of this car truly is a 9 out of 10, and it is quite simply one of the finest Mustangs I have ever seen in person.
Now, after we have dumped truckloads of cash in the engine, transmission, chassis, body, and trim on a car like this, do you think we are just going to settle for a "stock" interior???? HECK NO!!!! Break out the checkbook again, because the whole inside is getting a full restoration too!
From the dash to the rear deck, over 90% of the inside of this car was either brand new, custom made, or original and refurbished during the restoration. It is ultra clean, shows like new, and has no issues for the new owner to address.
Between California Mustang and Restore Mustang, there are reciepts for tons of new parts including the custom armrest/center console, kick panels, rear deck, visors, full upholstery recover kit in correct red with red trim, door panels, and last but not least, the custom manufactured SCAT Racing high back bucket seats!
The interior really looks like new, and shows wonderfully! There are no seam pulls, rips, tears or damage to be found!
The custom center console has a deep well storage area, and two easy to clean and use cupholders.
Carpet is new and super clean, and has been installed over layers of sound and heat proofing.
Headliner, visors, kick panels, you name it... it ALL shows like new with no issues or damage.
Dash is ultra clean and the original gauge cluster pod has been refurbished and treated to a full white face overlay on the gauges for a modern look.
Factory A/C unit looks fantastic, and I have highlighted its extensive refurbishment above.
A CLASSIC SOUND CS-1 radio was installed to keep it looking old but sounding fresh in the tunes department. This system has a digital AM/FM tuner with 24 presets, high power output, Auto Reverse cassette with FF/RW, 240 total watts of power, clock display, and an auxillary input for MP3, Ipod, or Sat. connectivity with the included and installed cable.
A FORD Motorsports tachometer is in place and fully calibrated.
The glovebox door was signed at a MCA event by none other than JACK ROUSH!
Glovebox opens to reveal a hidden flip switch for the four-way emergency flashers, along with ample enclosed storage for, well, gloves I guess!
The overall presentation of the interior of this car is a solid 9 out of 10, and I would not want it to be a 10, because the only reason it is a 9 is the light patina on the few remaining original interior parts, and you have to keep them!
The car starts with a turn of the key thanks to the electric choke setup. It idles smoothly and cleanly, and has a deep, resonant rumble at idle, with a throaty growl when you give it the gas.
The car drives out so smoothly and cleanly, you would think you were in a 2010 Mustang, except for all the thumbs up from passerby!
Power comes on strong and smooth, and each shift of the TCI trans is firm and solid, without being jarring.
The car accelerates like a rocket, and has plenty of power to spare regardless of if you are running red light to red light, or opening her up on the freeway!
Ride quality is fantastic, thanks to all the suspension upgrades, and it glides down the road like a caddy!
Handling prowess is akin to a late model Mustang, and the car takes to corners like a chubby kid to cake, with no excess body roll, wallow, or looseness.
With all the braking upgrades, this Mustang can stop on a dime and leave you 9 cents change with ease! There is no abnormal modulation, fade, pulling, or wander with the braking setup.
Heat is NOT an enemy to this car, thanks to the massive aluminum racing radiator and all the cooling upgrades highlighted in detail above. Even with the A/C on and idling in Florida beach traffic, the car stays between 185-193 degrees without fail!
This is a proven driver, and has NEVER been on a trailer, so flying in and driving home should be no issue at all! The car just recently completed a 700 mile roundtrip to complete the first leg of the 2011 HOT ROD POWER TOUR, from Sarasota to Cocoa Beach, then Valdosta, GA and back to Sarasota. It did it with all the aplomb of a 2010 Stang, and never once did anything funny!
If you are on the market for the single nicest fully restored and modified 1966 Mustang on the planet, then this is the car for you. Complete with two sets of keys, shift lock key, spare and tire change accessories, and a complete build book in a detailed binder with so many reciepts and documents it would take a year to go through it all!
NEVER BEFORE HAS THIS CAR BEEN OFFERED, SO ACT NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS IT!

The odometer on the car reads 69,618 as of the date of this listing, and is functional. The car has a mileage exempt Florida title due to model year, and is sold as mileage exempt. The prior owner believed the car to be true and accurate on mileage, but did not realize he needed to tell the DMV this when titling the car.
