It had 283,000 miles on it. He needed money so I bought it from him. I asked him what he had left to do. What would he fix if he was me? 1. He didn't have a scanner to set the timing on the engine correctly. He said to do that. 2. He had recently hit a curb. Said to get the front end aligned. 3. Said "everything else" was good. He was right. I got the front end aligned and the curb side ball joint replaced. It tightened up the front end nicely. You can tell by the wear on the tires that it runs straight down the road. I then bought new tires for it. Got some heavy duty Uniroyals at Walmart. Those 4 tires cost $750. The spare is even better than the four tires on it. You could say the tires alone are valued at over $850. I replaced the windshield. It's great except that it leaks. I got it in South Dallas and I just didn't care enough to go back and make them re-do it. I drove it for a while without setting the timing. It wasn't running that bad. And I wasn't driving it very much, anyway. Since I did drive it a while that way, I'd bet the spark plugs could stand to be changed. I don't know. It runs so well after setting the timing that I just didn't bother. The main thing this van needs is to be driven. I used to drive it into town (4 miles) to go to my office. Sometimes a trip to Dallas. We only use it now on the farm to haul our 3 or 4 bags of trash to the trash can at the end of our 1/4 mile driveway every Thursday. We haven't driven it on the road in almost a year because the registration is out. With only 12000 miles on it in more than 3 years? It just needs to be driven more. It has a new battery. I bought it about a month ago. Heavy duty. Everything on this van is heavy duty. The front brakes were making noise. I thought that meant the worst. Come to find out it was just metallic pads. I had those changed out and had all the brakes adjusted. The front rotors literally looked brand new. No wear that I could see whatsoever. I didn't see the rear hubs. The mechanic said they looked almost as good. I know now, since they were adjusted that they feel like a new set of brakes. And the front rotors could almost be new. You'll see for yourself. I see that it has a "different" (obviously not new) front curb side quarter panel for lack of a better description. I don't know the story on that. I know just like you that it obviously replaced the original. If he hit something it must not have been something major. Maybe it happened when he hit the curb. I really don't know. All the lights, meaning turn signals, stop lights, interior lights, back up lights and head lights all work. I mean every one. The transmission is tight. I asked him about it when I bought it. He said the same thing. It was true. It shifts smoothly and is sure. I haven't pulled anything with it, but he said he had a little trailer he pulled for his business from time to time and he said it pulled like it wasn't even back there. This is a one ton van. I have pulled them before. I believe it. It does have a hitch mount. You just need the hitch. It also has a 6 point light plug. He said it worked when I bought it. It may or may not. I know he used it to pull his trailer. I'd bet it did. I have not used it, though. What I know is "wrong" with it: 1. The power steering pump leaks. It's a slow leak. It has always leaked but does not drip on the driveway. There are NO leaks whatsoever on this van that show up on a driveway. 2. The A/C does not work. It worked beautifully before I went to a mechanic in Palestine to set the timing. I mean I turned it off when I pulled up in his driveway. When I got back in to leave, it didn't work. I usually think the best about people, not the worst, but you be the judge. I called them on the way home and asked them if they work on Air Conditioners. They said, "of course we do..." I don't think it's the compressor. I think it is just out of freon. Don't know for sure, though. 3. It needs a good lube. When I got it, I got under it and hit every zert. Even the ones in the U-Joints. It sure helped it. It is due for more grease. These vans go through grease fast. I'd say there are only about 10 zerts under there you need to hit. 4. The hood is a pain in the rear to open. You have to pull the cable with your hand, then "pound" on the hood just right to make it pop up enough to then use the latch to open it up. It has always been that way. You may or may not want to mess with fixing it. 5. It needs to have the oil changed. I did not do that just before you buy it. You can check out the oil. It's dirty (about 5000 miles on it) but you can tell it's not burned. This van does not burn oil nor does it leak oil. You will be able to tell and you will also be able to see the new lower unit clearly if you look. 6. It also needs to be registered and inspected. I guarantee the inspection within 7 days of purchase or I'll give you your money back. I had planned on getting both done. I had an unexpected commitment this week and I have not done anything I wanted to with the van. I also didn't get my insurance renewed to go do those two things. If it sells for $1500 or more I'll be happy to rebate you the registration and inspection sticker. We're only talking about $100 here. The title is clear and the inspection is guaranteed. I'll reduce the final sales price by $100 when you get here and I'll give you your money back if the inspection doesn't pass. It will. 7. The console that surrounds the engine inside the cab it a pain in the rear, too. It will fall down when you take off sometimes. I haven't looked at it closely enough to see how to secure it. I just didn't care enough to worry about it. You may want to secure it and put some screws or fasteners in the bracket surrounding the speedometer, too. It is loose. Now, I've spent a lot of time and energy describing this 15 year old van. I don't make any guarantees. You'll have to take the same chance I took when I bought it from Jim in Dallas some 3 years ago. I know this: I know that it is in even better shape now than when I bought it and I would have now qualms about driving it to New York City and back today if I had to. And I truly mean that. It could break down or even blow up tomorrow. I don't know. I know that if you get this van for between $900 and even as high as $2000 you will have stolen it. It will make a reliable work van for a tradesman of any kind. in my opinion. I'm not a car salesman. I just told you how it is. I hope you buy it and I hope you get good use out of it. Thanks and good luck!
