Vehicle Detail
Presented for you consideration, a 1967 Austin Healey Mark 3000 III BJ-8. I purchased the car in original condition, from a fellow Austin Healey Club member, who was the second owner, who owned it for one year after buying from the estate of the original owner. I wanted a completely original car, and for investment purposes I selected the last year built, and paid a premium for it. I have spent far more that I will ever recover from selling the car, but I really have no choice. I wanted one that had never been restored or disassembled, so I would have a really correct car. After taking the car to a number of shows, I decided to have it repainted the original Reno Red, and with this totally fresh paint job, the car is stunning, indeed. During the course of the repaint, many new rubber & trim parts were replaced, but the car is still mostly original. In the time I have owned the car I have replaced the Fuel pump, had the speedometer completely rebuilt, along with the 90 degree cable drive, and of course, new cable. The Speedo worked fine, it just didn't track fast enough, and I thought recalibration was justified to match the new wire wheels on the car. The car came to me with Cibie headlights, Australian heavy duty DMD oil pan, new wire wheels, & tubeless tires. It also came with a radio (not working) and a set of genuine Smith auxiliary Amps & Volts gauges. I have never seen another set like them. The convertible top is in excellent condition, as is the soft window, and the car also comes with the original tonneau cover. The car is an absolute pleasure to drive, and I would have no problem driving it anywhere. It is fast, light, and well balanced. The oil pressure is excellent, the overdrive and gearbox work beautifully, and the car has almost new brakes including new calipers on the front. I have owned six big Healeys over the years, and this one is by far my favorite. I am facing a challenging health crisis, and I must now sell all of my Healeys, so, perhaps someone out there will take this car and give it the proper care it deserves. I would like to discuss the things the car needs to have done to be really perfect. The interior is all original, and has a separated area about 3" on the driver's side. Next, the chrome strip that fits into the channel between the rear fender and the body on the right side has some small dents on it, and I have purchased and will include 2 brand new ones with the car if you want to replace one or both. The front & rear bumpers are original, and the rear has pitting on the right side from the exhaust. At the very bottom of the boot, is a small rust hole most likely from moisture over the years collecting at the low point. While photographing the car for this ad, I noticed that the side windows have scratch marks on them, so I ordered all new side windows, rubbers, & fuzzie felts so you may install completely new windows. I also purchased a complete wood dash replacement kit that is included as well. I have never let cost guide any decision regarding this car. I do not believe that as an owner of one of these magnificent big Healeys that you are ever done improving, detailing, or working on the car. I would encourage the winning bidder to join a local Austin Healey Club, as their guidance will prove to be invaluable to your enjoyment of this fine car. In closing, I have tried to be as honest and forthcoming about the condition of the car as possible, if you have any questions contact me right away, I will also provide anyone who asks with a CD of additional photos. The car is sold without any warranties expressed or implied, and it is up to you to inspect the car if you so desire before purchasing it. There is no refund after purchase, so now is the time to ask. The winning bidder will deposit $500.00 immediately after the auction ends, and all remaining funds must be paid within seven days of the close of the auction. You will enjoy this car, I assure you, and by keeping a few years, the higher values will surely come back, making it a great long term investment by any standards. Cheers & happy bidding!
