Vehicle Detail
2005 BMW Motorcycle R1150RT 31K (5K per year) Former Police Unit and Superbly Maintained 10 Day Auction One of the World's Best Touring Bikes The BMW R1150RT has all the comfort needed to cruise the USA or Europe – and it handles too. Proof that a motorcycle can take you, a friend, plenty of luggage through the Rockies or those Alpine passes and can be fun once you get there. The R1150RT is lighter than most full tourers and superbly built too. The R1150RT's ‘Boxer’ opposed flat twin has a rock solid heritage coupled with major modern development. It’s got plenty of torque at low revs and produces excellent power up the tach. It’s more than adequate – up to about 100mph where other tourers will start to lose speed. The R1150RT delivers superb comfort for one or two – seat and bars are adjustable at a standstill, the screen can be moved on the move with a touch of a button. Panniers are included and work well. Loads of extras including BMWs superb heated grips. The R1150RT has a solid construction which includes building in good resistance to salty roads. Brakes in particular resist weather better than most rivals. These bikes will rack up huge mileages without major problems. We have ridden this bike and it is in excellent mechanical condition. Cosmetically it is in good to excellent condition. The only complaint we could really find is that the windscreen does not have perfect "like new" clarity, but is completely servicable and is better than other BMW touring bikes we have seen of similar vintage. Note the molding whiskers still intact on the front tire. The bike was serviced on a regular interval by the Police Department's city vehicle service center. It was also serviced regularly at the BMW dealer. The BMW dealer did a 600 mile and a 6K in 2006; they also did a major service at 25,640 miles in February of 2009 and it was last in the dealer on January of 2010. On Jul-11-11 at 13:49:54 PDT, seller added the following information: A question has been asked about paintwork after the bike left the factory because the person asking has only seen this specification bike in black or black and white. It seems most of the later 1200 series did come in mostly black or black and white. Many of the black and white models seem to be all white with black luggage compartments. I have examined the bike closely and it is indeed all white from the factory and you will see some all white bikes out there if you search Google Images. That said, the right luggage compartment has had some minor spray and touch up work done to it; immaterial to the value of this bike in my opinion.
