Vehicle Detail
1951 HUDSON SUPER SIX SEDAN HISTORY The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable, well engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was forever changed on December 7th, 1947 when Hudson introduced their new 1948 models in nationwide showings. Banners proclaimed “This Time It’s Hudson”. The cars won instant acclaim from the public. Production had actually begun on October 12th. The tremendous factory conversion effort took only 23 days. Hudson spent $16,000,000 for development and new production equipment. The new car was revolutionary in that virtually no parts interchanged with the 1947 models, except the eight cylinder engine, which was essentially the same. The car had the lowest center of gravity and the lowest roofline of any American car without sacrificing headroom, due to the floorpans being attached to the bottom of the frame members instead of the top as all previous American cars had been. While the 1934 Chrysler Airflow and the 1941 Nash 600 had been the first production unibody cars, the new Hudson was significantly more rugged in construction and offered a sleek new design that was way ahead of the competition. The new body design was termed “Monobilt” because the body structure was welded all steel construction. The cars were available in Super and Commodore trim levels with either a Six or Eight cylinder engine. Minor updates were made in the Hudson line for 1950 and 51. I looked at the 1951 Hudson Super Six Sedan featured in this auction back in 1974 while looking for Hudson Dealership parts stocks and cars in Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky. It was in Evansville Indiana. The mileage was 54k miles. It was being sold at that time by the original lady owners estate. I did not buy it then. Many years later the new owner called me looking for a 262 engine for it. I supplied a very nice Low mileage 53 262 engine for it. It still runs Great. I am selling this car for my good friends at Wildrick Restoration. They bought it from a museum like collection that was being liquidated. They have inspected and repaired this car to drive anywhere. It is equipped with a standard transmission without Overdrive, Ventshades and a visor, Directional signals, a backup light, Radio and Heater. There is a clear Indiana title in the owners name. The current mileage is 59,551. It will cruise all day at 60+ MPH. CONDITION This 1951 Super is a very rustfree and straight example. It was originally Jefferson Green, now repainted a color close to Hudsons Toro Red, with a White roof. The interior has been mostly redone and shows pretty well. The plastic steering wheel is cracked. The chrome on the car is mostly excellent, although some pieces are pitted. Someone added some Hornet and Wasp trim from later cars trying to dress it up. The brake system has been completely rebuilt including a repack of the bearings and new seals. The fuel system is fresh as well. There is a nice matched set of Collector car wide whitewall bias ply tires. I took this car on a 20 mile drive this afternoon and it runs and drives Great! The clutch is smooth. All of the lights and instruments work. The windup clock keeps reasonable time if wound daily. The radio is inop, however I have found a dependable radio repairman. DETAILS This is a Nice Driver Hudson Super six sedan. You can drive this car to Cruise Ins and shows right now. You can get into the Collector car hobby with a turnkey car. I believe that this Super can be driven to any destination. It is freshly serviced and ready to go. I have done my best to make an accurate detailed description of this car. If there is an aspect that is not mentioned or you require additional information regarding an item, please E-mail or call Larry at 317-862-2020 with any questions or to schedule an appointment to inspect and drive this Super Six sedan before the auction ends. Please do not bid unless you intend to purchase the vehicle. I will do whatever is necessary to expedite the delivery to include picking you up at the Indianapolis airport or meeting your shipper.
