Vehicle Detail
c20500 Store This is the highest spec version of the Maserati Merak SS with late Bora Dash, conventional Braking system -No Citroen Hydraulics-, lightest weight, highest horsepower and late style cam chain tensioner. Clean Title, Registration Current. It is an Award winning, Original California Rust Free Car with personalized blue plate and has passed the most stringent smog emissions test in the country; as a testament to how the engine is operating. This Merak was entered recently in a local concours where it placed 1st in its class and car is sorted and is ready to be enjoyed. I believe I am the 3rd owner and have done the following things in the past 3,000 miles: Valve clearance and Chain tension AdjustmentsCarburetors rebuilt, synced and tunedNew Distributor Cap, Rotor, Plugs, and Wires. All New FluidsNew Air FilterNew CarpetsA/C converted to r134a Blows ColdNew Tires Completed in the last 10,000 miles: New ClutchTop End Head/Valve workNew Clutch Master CylinderNew Brake Master CylinderNew Battery Additional Items that will be included: Original Tool KitOriginal A/C CompressorReproduction Manuals The Car is Located in Los Angeles and International buyers are welcome as I will deliver the car to the closest port Los Angeles-Long Beach Much about the Merak has been written and often inaccurately by non-owners or by people that have never even driven one. The engine is NOT a V8 with 2 cylinders cut off but a clean sheet design. It revs really nicely, plenty of low end torque and has a wonderful growl as roars up to it's redline. Carbs are tried and true Weber 44dcnf's and once set require little attention. The engine has chains instead of rubber belts and just needs to be tensioned periodically. All engine maintenance can be performed without removal as its placement is longitudinal. Because of the engine's use in the Citroen SM, parts availability is very good and most are available through a number of sources all over the internet. The car does not foul plugs or overheat even in stop and go Los Angeles traffic, the clutch is light and shifting action not heavy especially compared to its rivals, ala 308 Ferrari, etc. The transaxle is similar to the one installed in the Lotus Esprit and contrary to popular belief, a ZF was never installed. On the highway, it is surprisingly quiet, the car tracks straight and the ride is better than my XJS Jaguar. Handling is also very good in tight canyon roads. I included a photo of my fuse box to show that has not been butchered as there have been no electrical problems or blown fuses as most are original. For a 31 year old, the car is in great overall condition with no dents or dings that I can see. The paint is nice and shiny with minor flaws that will not show in photographs. I resisted in redying the interior so there is some patina. A few panels of the passenger seat have been replaced to repair a few seams and there is a small cut on the driver door panel. The oil pres gauge is intermittent -warning light works fine as do all other gauges-. I converted the A/C to r134a and once recharged is working fine and blowing cold. I have not modified or personalized the car in anyway to take away from how she was born. The mileage may go up a little as I believe these cars should be driven often as possible. In all, I think the Merak in SS guise is a great way to enjoy Italian exotic car ownership, even if it is your 1st one. If you have any questions please email or call 310-406-6767. Below are over 60 photos; the car looks much better in person.
