Vehicle Detail
Your are bidding on a 1948 DeSoto powered by a 1957 DeSoto 341 cu in Hemi. This engine was removed and replaced under warranty at 400 miles in 1957. The service manager repaired the engine and kept it until he died. I bought it from his nephew in around 1996. I disassembled and inspected the engine and found it to be like new with evidence of a dropped valve. It had been repaired with two new valves, valve seat inserts and a new piston. I cleaned up some nicks, lightly honed the bores, replaced another valve, and installed newer style rings (three piece oil rings and moly filled top rings). The intake manifold was bored to match the throttle bores of the new carburetor. The engine was mated to a '68 Chrylser 727 automatic transmission with a Quality Engineering adapter kit. Other features include: -Mopar Electronic Ignition -Vintage Air - Gen IV -Chrysler 8 3/4 axle -Front disc brakes -Power brake Booster and dual master cylinder -Cavalier power rack and pinion steering -Camaro tilt steering column -2000 Buick Park Avenue seats -SPAL Dual Cooling Fans with SPAL programable controller -Edelbrock carburetor -Chrysler Ralley wheels with new 225 tires -Insulated floors and roof -Genie Sifter -Lokar throttle and downshift linkage and pedals -Ron Francis Wiring -VDO gages -Tinted glass with new rubber and felt I retired from Chrysler 10 years ago. The last plant I worked at was MaGraw Glass. That site was originally Wyoming Avenue Assembly plant where DeSotos were built from 1936 to 1958. All of the DeSoto Hemi engines were built at Warren Avenue Engine Plant on the north end of the complex. I decided I needed a DeSoto Hemi Powered DeSoto. Ten years later it was on the road and won "Best Modified DeSoto" at the DeSoto National Convention in Springfield, Illinois in 2010. The car had never been more than 5 miles from home but I drove it there and home, approximately 500 miles. The car now has close to 1100 miles. Some of the costs associated with building the car were: -$5000 for paint and body work -$5000 in the engine and transmission -$5000 in the interior -$4000 in chrome -$2000 in the Air Conditioning, Fans and Radiator workAnd the list goes on and, of course, doesn't include all of the labor over the last eleven years. I've moved on to other projects so my loss is your gain. The car is listed at No Reserve so the highest bidder with cash takes it home. Please contact me with any questions you might have. You can contact me through ebay or call my cell phone (765) 744-5518 and leave a clear phone number so I can return your call if I'm not avaliable. My #$%^@! phone does not capture a called number when a voicemail is left. A deposit of $500 is due with 48 hours of the close of bidding and the remainder is due within two weeks of the close of bidding when the car is picked up. There is no warranty - the car is sold as is. I don't do shipping, either pick up the car or you must arrange shipping. Good luck!
