The hunt for cool cars took me 100 miles into the desert to a hot and forsaken place. An ancient dairy lay in a shambles, and next to a cool Camaro, and an ancient ghia, sat this blue RX-2. Luckily for us, a spring squall had sprinkled the usually dry desert ground and cooled everything down. I sat in disbelief and looked at this RX-2 for a long moment. What I have for you here is a car that sat on a slab of cement since 1979. When we opened the hood I was welcomed by a giant black widow spider that size of a half dollar coin. With a whole new found respect I carefully poked around under the hood and revealed the rotary power plant. It was covered by almond shells brought in and devoured by vermin. The vermin had also devoured portions of the wiring. The real pain however would come after discovering the trunk and quarters was rusted through. The man said apologetically “I forgot to tell you it was so bad back there.” To say the least! Yes, car buffs, what I have for you here is an original Mazda RX-2 with a trashed trunk. Alas, I could not leave it behind. After poking, prodding and bargaining for the better part of an hour (and avoiding killer spiders) a deal was struck, paperwork was exchanged (yes, there’s a title), and tow arrangements were made – very expensive tow arrangements, I might add. So I saved this car and it’s a model I have been searching for, for many moons. I hope you find it attractive enough for me to push it onto a trailer and have it find its way to you.
