Up for sale is a relatively rare 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, GLS TDI, wagon with a manual transmission. We bought this new in 2002, so one owner only, and it was the only manual 5-speed wagon within nine states in the midwest. The manual 1.9L engine was the only configuration that had the window sticker highway EPA rating of 50 mpg. She's filled up and while some hypermilers have broken 1000mi per tank, you can reliably count on a 600 mile range. In mixed driving and cuising at 75-80 mph, I easily logged ~45 mpg. It was always serviced at the VW dealer in my area (since 2005, it's Lithia Motors in Des Moines), so full service records are available. The oil has been always been changed at the dealer with the proper synthetic and all scheduled maintenences were done. The check engine light has been on for years, and the VW dealer has checked and rechecked and said there are no apparent issues. I had an engineer coleague who is a TDI enthusiast plug his laptop into the car's computer and we checked the engine's performance and all parameters were what he expected. There are minor bumps and scrapes from the years and the only notable is a few years ago in the snow we bumped into a car and replaced the bumper and right front headlight. No signs of rust. Interior, everything works fine with the smaller exceptions of a missing rear ashtray cover, and the driver window switch pod works but needs replacement. The driver seat heater developed a hot spot and the seat was patched and the heater elements clipped at that spot. The rest of the heater works fine. There is an optional rear cargo protector tray, so the carpet underneath is still great. No smoking. With 148k on the odometer, the TDI engine is good for much more. The tires are relatively new, with what I'd guess would be ~10k miles on the fronts, and ~20k on the backs. The spare tire is there and was never used. Lots of pictures and the title is here. We dearly loved this car and are only selling because we'd like to get the new version.On Jun-09-11 at 13:24:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Update from talking with the dealer: They don't have record of the engine code because we didn't have them offically run the diagnostics. The #1 and #2 glow plugs were replaced at 78k and they said the common culprits for the error flag. The timing belt and water pump were replaced at 78k. The exhaust pipe was replaced last year, and the rear pads and rotors replaced at 77k.
