Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my very rare DOHC 16-Valve turbocharged and intercooled Chyrsler TC by Maserati. If you know about these cars then you know that only 500 of these cars were produced with this 200HP engine, mated to a Getrag 5-speed transmission. Most were built with a 140hp Misubitshi V-6, or a 160hp standard chrysler 2.2 turbo motor. If you want any type of return on your investment, or even want to enjoy "driving" a TC, make sure you don't buy a Mitsubishi powered TC. That's the same lame V-6 that was in minivans and SUV's, not the type of engine that belongs in a hand built italian "Touring Convertible" THIS DOHC IS THE MOTOR THIS CAR WAS DESIGNED TO HAVE. Lotus designed the cylinder head, Cosworth produced it, and Maserati assembled it. It was very expensive to produce and that's why only 500 were built. These cars are NOT some modified Lebaron as many people think. The VIN starts with a "Z", that means it was hand-built in ITALY, not Detroit. The interior is covered in Italian leather, seats, doors, dash, everything. There is NO chrome on this car, it's ALL polished stainless steel. This car cost over $30k in 1989.....very expensive and very exclusive. This car is Red over Camel, has a soft top AND hardtop (both in great condition, including headliners) only 74,000 original miles (miles will increase as my wife and I still drive it on nice weekends). Car as the original toolkit and Italian made umbrella, as well as a workshop manual. unfortunatly I do NOT have the owners manul, but you can pick one up on eBay. Title is clear, in my name, car passed California Smog and is ready to go for any California buyers. The car has a brand new Diehard battery, a Matching set of Bridgestone tires with 80%+ tread left and a freshly remanufactered A/C compressor recently installed (converted to R134). A/C blows ice cold and works perfectly, as does the heater. Has original Infiniity stereo cassette with electronic EQ and 8 speakers and it works perfectly including the power anttena. The sound is great by 1989 standards, fine by todays standards :-). I'm very picky about my cars, this car is used as a weekend driver. The paint looks great up close, but I would consider it an 8 as it has some minor scratches/swirl marks and a small area on the trunk lid where it looks like a wet towel or something was allowed to sit on the car. The hood also has a slight discolored spot, only seen if you look closly across the surface, probably from engine heat over the years I would assume. Don't let me scare you, the paint looks great, and you wouldn't even notice these spots until I pointed then out in person. The right rear wheel lip molding has a small ding. The interior I would also give an 8, carpet is perfect, doors are perfect, seats show a bit of wear from use. No tears or seam splits, just some wear, driver's of course being the worst, look at close up pic. The steering wheel needs to be redyed or recovered as the 12 o"clock pistion has the color worn through. There is also a plastic trim piece broken on the driver's seat from the electric recline button, switch works fine though. Mechanically I'd give the car a 9, it starts, stops, turns, cruises, and burns rubber almost as new. Power is great, and the exhaust sounds incrdible as you coast to a stop it's pure heaven, with little Burps as a true Italian car should sound. This car is MUCH FASTER than an "normal" TC as this engine is made to run. Claimed 0-60 n the 6 second range, not 9 seconds like the mitsubishi powered TC's. Every mechanical function of the car works as it should. I would NOT hesitate to drive to across the country tomorrow, and if it doesn't sell I might as I'm moving to FL and don't have the ability to bring all my cars with me. The only mechanical issue I have with the car is an oil leak. The oil pan gasket was relpaced in 2008 ($300 job) and looks like it needs to be done again. It doesn't affect the use of the vehicle, it just drips here and there when parked. Water pump was also replaced at that time, mileage was 71k then, so it's truely a pleasure car, not a daily driver. Electrically a couple of things need to be corrected if desired. The tachometer works when it wants to. If you tap on top of the dash it moves, so it's probably a loose conection. The tach is standard chysler part, so cheap enough to replace if needed. The right turn signle doesn't flash, and the left one seems "fast". I think it must have a wrong bulb or something as all the lights actually light up. The electic switches for the softtop pull down and tonaeu cover release aren't working. I think it's a fuse somewhere. The actual soft top is MANUAL, these are just the cover locks, and they both have a manual overide. Since I've only ever had the soft top up once (for these pics), it's never bothered me. I have mentioned these "flaws" as I don't want anyone buying a car from me only to find out it wasn't perfect. It's not perfect, but it's dam good for a 22yo car. It looks great inside and out, drives like a 3yo car, fast as you'd ever need, gets about 28mpg when my wife drives it, 22 when I do :-) Car gets compliments everywhere it goes, and you should see the look on the faces of other TC owners when they see that little red "16 valve Intercooled" badge on the front fenders....priceless. Ask questions and bid accordingly. My RESERVE is WAY less than this car is worth and I will NOT disclose it, so bid to win. Bidders with less than 10 feedback score will be deleted if you don't send me your contact info first. Sorry, but it cost me $125 to list this car, and weeks for ebay to refund if a fake bidder wins. I can deliver the car within 500 miles for a buck a loaded mile (I have a diesel truck to trailer it and diesel is $4.25 a gallon in So Cal). if you're local please come out and look at and drive the car. It's located in Wildomar, Ca. which is about 85 miles southeast of LA, 90 miles north of San Diego, 25 miles from Orange County. E-mail me and I'll gladly give you my phone number to discuss the car.On Jun-10-11 at 16:12:28 PDT, seller added the following information: Update 6/10/2011. There are currently 6 TC's including this one listed on eBay. This is the ONLY one with the REAL TC engine and Getrag 5-speed manual transmission. The other engines are either a box-stock chysler 2.2 turbo II motor that was detuned (power taken away), or a Mitsubishi V-6, minivan engine. If you know these cars then you know the difference in driving and enjoying a REAL TC, and not just a nice car built by bean-counters (no offense to actual counters of beans intended). I will NOT be relisting this car as I am moving to Florida and my wife is already getting upset that this car is for sale. If it doesn't sell I will be having the few items fixed on it, and have it shipped to FL. Don't miss your opportunity to buy a VERY RARE TC with a DOHC 16-valve 200hp engine. In all the years I've been enjoying eBay, I don't think I've ever seen a TC for sale with the twin cam engine, always just the worthless V-6 powered ones. PLEASE don't wait until the last 10 minutes to ask questions. I may not be around my computer when the auction closes and I'd hate to miss your questions. ****ALSO, if you use the Buy it Now, or bidding goes over the B-I-N price, I will cover HALF of the shipping cost to have the car deliverd to you (lower 48 only). So, if shipping is $1,000, I'll cover $500 of it for you.......What are you waiting for??? Again, I will cover 50% of the shipping to you in the lower 48 if you use the buy-it-now or the bidding goes over the buy it now price.........On Jun-11-11 at 12:34:45 PDT, seller added the following information:If you are a buyer from OUTSIDE the United States, please just send me an e-mail and I will approve you to bid on my auction on a case by case basis. Thank You for your interest
