Vehicle Detail

1931 FORD A STEEL HIGHBOY Starred in ABC 77 Sunset Strip series HISTORY Long before the 1950 George Wilson song “Hot Rod Race” performed by Arkie Shibley and the Mt. Dew Boys, Model A coupes, two doors and Roadsters were being made into some of the Coolest Hot Rods ever. The 1950’s Horsepower race among the U.S. manufacturers added more fuel to the fire with larger and more powerful engines being produced every year. The Ford A Highboy featured in this auction was built as a HOT ROD in 1958 for the 77 Sunset Strip television series that ran from 1958 to 1964. It is believed to have the Automatic Transmission because one of the stars on the show could not drive a Stick! It was also featured in “Car Craft” magazine. The car spent its entire life in Southern California until 2005. The current owner bought it at a Rand/Workman auction from an undisclosed guitarist and musician that had it in his collection for many years. This car has been lovingly maintained. Much time and money was recently spent on it. There are restoration logs for the recent work. CONDITION It is powered by a 239 Flathead engine and Automatic Transmission from a 1953 Ford. It sports a set of Offenhauser heads, an Eddie Meyer 2/2 barrel intake with Stromberg 97’s, a Beehive oil filter and a host of other period correct speed equipment to include Fenton Headers and cable operated exhaust cutouts! The vehicle looks, sounds and runs great. There is a Halibrand Quickchange rear. It has Buick finned front drum brakes. There are Power Windows, Moon gauges and a Banjo Steering wheel. It has a Rare 50’s Hiway HI-FI that plays 45 records. It also has a modern CD Player stereo. It has been updated with Power Brakes, a rear stabilizer and seatbelts. The paint was professionally done several years ago, but still looks great. The Black and White vinyl interior was freshened at the same time. The brightwork is still show quality. DETAILS This is a really cool vintage Flathead Ford powered street rod in beautiful condition that you can drive to Cruise Ins and shows right now. You can get into Street Rodding with a turnkey car. I believe that this Rod can be driven to any destination. It is freshly serviced and ready to go. It has a clear Louisiana title. I have done my best to make an accurate detailed description of this car. If there is any aspect that is not mentioned or you require additional information regarding an item, please e-mail or call Larry at 317-908-6401 with any questions or to schedule an appointment to inspect and drive this Ford A Rod before the auction ends. Please do not bid unless you intend to purchase the vehicle. I will do whatever is necessary to expedite the delivery to include picking you up at the Indianapolis airport or meeting your shipper.
