1981 TRIUMPH TR7 ROADSTER HISTORY The Wedge shape of the TR7 caused much consternation amongst the motoring press when it was first unveiled to the public in late 1974. The demise of the TR7, in 1981, also saw the end of the British sports car - until the revival of the MG (with the MGF) in the mid 1990's. And so it looks as if the Triumph/MG debate has come full-circle. In the early 1970's many meetings/discussions at British Leyland revolved around whether the 'bullet' would emerge under the badge of MG or that of Triumph. It appeared as a Triumph and MG lived on in the rather sad form of 'performance' Maestro's, Montego's and Metro's!! (Be thankful Triumph only had to endure the Acclaim!). Leaving aside workforce and quality issues perhaps, instead of poking fun at the 'wedge' and critising British Leyland for not producing a 'true TR', we should congratulate the designers for daring to produce something different. The TR7 was an innovation, it broke from tradition, trod new ground and dared to be different. This 1981 2.0l Fuel Injected Roadster was sent to Nemet Motors in New York City and did not sell when new. Nemet Motors primarily sold British Sportscars to members of the US Military and shipped them all over the world. This car along with an entire warehouse of like cars sat in storage until October 2003 when it was purchased on a Certificate of Origin by my friend in Winchester Virginia. At that time it had 29 miles. It now has 181 ACTUAL MILES. This is a “NEW” 1981 TR7. I have a copy of the Certificate of origin, The first title issued in 2003 showing “29 miles Actual” and all paperwork from Nemet Motors. CONDITION This TR7 is equipped with the 2.0 L Petro Injected engine, a 5 Speed manual gearbox and Power Disc Brakes. The radio was never installed and is in the trunk along with the cars tools. This car is essentially a new car and still sports its British license tags that all British cars are shipped with. The petrol tank was cleaned and coated with sealer, the brake system overhauled and a new battery installed. New tires were recently installed for drivability. The car is fully functional and drives like a NEW TR7. The downside is that while in storage it experienced some shelfwear. There was some damage to the passenger side of the car that has now been corrected. This is a NEW TR7. Try to replicate this car! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to step back in time and own a true piece of history. DETAILS This is a Brand new 1981 TR7 that is 99% original that you can drive to Cruise Ins and shows right now. You can get into the British car hobby with a turnkey car. I believe that this TR7 can be driven to any destination, but why would you?. It is freshly serviced and ready to go. It has a Virginia title in my friends name stating 29 miles actual.
