Vehicle Detail
Here we have an original 1970 VW Beetle RUST FREE purchased new in Alhambra Ca. I purchased from original owner I put a new matching stock paint job and redid the seats and door panels. I bought with intentions of using as a grocery getter and to p/u kids from school and get 30 plus MPG. All I heard was its Hot , there is no room in back seat, I dont have my own door, ETC ETC. What happened to the good old days when you were just happy to be getting a ride from school and you didnt have to walk. So here it is for sale for someone that can truly enjoy this for what it is. A good old german/american Icon. This is a 41 year old car and has a few qwerks but it truly is a nice original survivor. I got it 2 months ago from original owners who had it in garage and only used it sparingly since 1985 when they bought a new BMW. The dad passed away 2 years ago and car had not been moved in those 2 years til I bought it and I just charged battery, oil change, changed fuel lines, points, and cleaned carb and it started and runs like a champ. I than redid brakes and I had a nice driver that really does run and drive good. I replaced fender rubber, bumpers, lights rubber and painted it in original color. It looks very nice but it is not a perfect show car. I do have some of the paint left and if you wanted to perfect car you could do that. I had my local upholstery shop redo the seats with all new foam and also cut down into lowbacks to give it that pre 1967 look he also replaced door panels and repaired headliner back by rear window where the sun toasts them. Car runs and Drives very nice with the few exceptions noted below I have been driving it around for a month or so with no issues. It is currently registered with original Californa Blue plates and has a clean title ready to transfer or export. Car is totally original except the upgrades done recently. With a trip to your local VW specialist I am sure they could have all the bugs worked out with no problems. Here is the bad I can tell you. Carburetor needs tweeking and or professional rebuild it stalls at idle sometimes. The radio does not work, The front hood needs cable cleaned or replaced to work as it should The brakes probably just need a good adjustment they are new but I did the work myself and I am not a mechanic they pull a bit but are safe to drive as is. The shocks appear to be the original in front and probably could be replace again it isnt unsafe to drive as is, The steering is safe and OK but it does wander a little bit on freeway I was told you can adjust steering box, again it does feel safe just want to make sure that I dont leave anything out, also the shifter vibrates a little bit in 3rd and 4th gears it if you hold shifter lightly it is as quiet as could be again I was told that the shifter coupling probably needs replacement. I dont want to paint the wrong picture here with this car I just want to make sure you dont think you are getting a perfect 41 year old car, I have had other bugs in the past and this is a real nice car and worth every penny that my reserve is set at. The motor runs smooth and quiet with no smoke,or odd noises it is the 1600 single port engine which was original to car, It was rebuilt a quite a few years ago but used only lightly since that time with no leaks. Transmission works well and shifts through all gears smooth and quiet and doesnt pop out of gears All the lights and electrical work as they should. Tires are pretty new and should last a long time. Car drives smooth and quiet and has never been abused only driven by a mature driver. The heater works well. All doors and windows work as they should. The window rubber is original and in excellent condition for a 41 year old car Well I probably left something out so please ask alot of questions and request other pictures if needed. If you want to come look at car or send someone to look you can send your Tele # and I will contact you promptly and make arrangements. I have sold many things on EBay and I can be trusted, I can deliver car locally to a transport company for a fee or I will be more than happy to work directly with YOUR trucking company but I do not recommend transport it is up to you to make that call. $ 200.00 Deposit due within 24 hrs of auction ending and remainder due within 7 days SO Good Luck On Jun-01-11 at 18:10:06 PDT, seller added the following information: You know I go back and read the ad and it is too late to change it. I think I was too honest and over emphasized some of the small problems with this car. I just wanted to make sure that no one is suprised and unhappy I would rather have you get car and say Wow that guy really over did the negatives on this car and really didnt sell its good qualities. With that I have had alot of people ask what my reserve is. It is set at 3500.00 and I am going to sell car to the highest bidder hopefully for me it goes for 4-5 K but if it only sells for 3500 than so be it. I have also been asked if this car will make it to different cities. I have been driving this around for a few months as is and I would not be afraid to drive this thing anywhere in The Americas. Heck it is a VW and they are very durable and when taken care of like this car is about as dependable as a car can be. If you are handy with small repairs Brake adjustment,Shocks ETC than I would say u would probably only spend a hundred bucks or so to make this car 100% If you need to send it to a shop and you didnt do any of the small repairs yourself I would say 400 Bucks or so is all it needs to be a NICE daily Driver. This is an original 1 owner car that is very solid and never had any major accidents, rust etc. Not like some of these cars that have been patched together with Bondo and cheap Taiwan parts made out of recycled Chevys and Fords. It is a fine example of a 1970 VW with some Love and TLC could be a VERY nice car. Again feel free to ask questions and request info. I will try to answer as honestly as I can and the best of my knowledge. Good Luck and Happy Bidding
