DESCRIPTION
The year was 1986. It was the second opportunity for Chevrolet to use the Corvette as the PACE CAR for the legendary Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet was extremely pleased that the totally redesigned Corvette was so nimble and athletic that it would not require ANY modification to perform the task!
Those laps around the track brought to the Nations attention the first REAL sports car, and first Corevette convertible since 1975, they had laid eyes on since the gas crisis of the 1970's!
The car won the hearts of millions of automotive enthusiasts, and still retains an aura of mystique that turns heads even today.
This particular example is one of only 1,044 examples that were treated to the 40U white exterior finish. Even more rare is that it has both the red leather interior AND the charcoal soft top.
The vette you see in the 100 large photos below has been lovingly maintained and cared for over the past 25 years, and it clearly shows from every vantage point.
The exterior of the car is finished in the factory correct 40U white paint that shines bright and slick over the entire car. The finish has just a handful or so truly minor blemishes like miniscule stone chips, a small scuff, and minor normal use markings. NONE of these are large enough to detract from the overall appearance of the car, and I mainly mention anything at all to protect myself should you actually see something I missed when doing a complete inspection of the car both on, and off, a lift.
The main tiny stone marks are on the front lower fascia, and very well may just detail out.
I HAVE NOT DETAILED THE CAR. I SIMPLY WIPED IT OFF WITH TURTLE WAX QUICK SHINE BEFORE TAKING THE PHOTOS!
I do this because I want you to see the level of care the car was in prior to you taking ownership of it.
The trim on the car is all intact, and in exceptional condition as well.
The car is equipped with the rare factory hardtop in matching 40U white. The top is in fantastic condition, and mounts and installs easily. It has just a handful of minor stone chips and marks on it from normal use, and still shows exceptionally well. It includes the factory original flannel fitted cover as well.
The factory soft top is in very good condition, and is a rare charcoal finish model. There are no seam pulls or tears, and only one small (3/8") wear mark on the driver side lower edge that I have highlighted in the photos below.
The rear window is in amazing condition, and has only the faintest light surface marks that are not really detrimental to the overall appearance whatsoever. A very light discolorization has started, but I am sure that a normal cleaning and plastic window treatment purchased over the counter will resolve that.
The top opens and closes with ease, and all the latching hardware operates perfectly.
The glass on the car is in fantastic condition, and show no cracks or chips anywhere.
The car rides on chrome plated Corvette wheels that are in exceptional condition, and show only light oxidation if anything, and have no curb damage or heavy markings on any of them.
They are wrapped in tires that are in excellent condition, and have at least 80% of the useable tread life remaining.
The rear decklid has the luggage rack in place, and the car comes to you with the incredibly rare dealer accesory trunk luggage carrier! This unit attaches easily to the luggage rack, and provides water resistant storage for clothing and gear for those weekend getaways! Whe you arrive at your destination, simply unfasten it, grab the handle, and treat it like a piece of luggage!
It is in great condition, has full functionality, and is a VERY rare piece of Corvette history.
Overall, the exterior of the car presents as a solid and true 8.7 out of 10, and is simply a professional detail away from being a 9.0.
Opening the doors of this Corvette reveals an interior that rivals the exterior in every way!
The luxurious A51 ARR2 Red Leather interior beckons you to drop into the multi adjustable power driver seat for a view of the command center of this incredible sports car.
The wood dash trim shows exquisitely well, and is a rare find in such great condition.
The seating surfaces themselves are in exceptional shape, and show only the faintest sign of patina you would expect in a vintage top grain leather over time.
Some of the functions on the power seats do not work all the time, and I feel like this is probably due to lack of use more than anything. It is sporadic, so I don't think it is a fuse. Mainly the bolster and headrest functions.
The dash and center consoles are both in great condition, and every single accessory and option appears to be functioning as it should as of this listing date.
All of the dash lights function as they should, and each gauge works in all positions as controlled by the dash mounted switchgear.
There are no burnt out areas on the gauge display, and everything appears to be correctly calibrated and functioning as it should.
The tilt/telescopic steering wheel is in great condition, with just light normal patina, and it has full functionality.
The BOSE audio system works wonderfully, and has a sound and depth that rivals even the most modern systems. It is equipped with AM/FM Stereo and Cassette, and all items function including Bass, Treble, Memory channel, Tuning, and Cassette.
The power antennae is fully functional, but it has been a little finicky about going up and down once in awhile. It does seem to make an inordinate amount of noise when going up and down. That could be just because it has not been used much, or maybe it is just me because I am not used to many power antennaes.
The inside release for the top hatch functions perfectly, as does the hood release.
The top hatch opens to hide the convertible top when it is down, and it comes with the optional accessory dust panel that keeps debris from getting in the hold area.
Carpeting is in above average condition, with normal wear, and the factory original mats are included, although they do show some moderate wear and above average discoloration thanks to 25 years of doing the best they could to protect the carpeting!
Factory air conditioning has been converted to R134, and it works flawlessly, bringing the car down to a nice cool temp in just a few minutes. Heating and defrost features all work as they should as well.
The interior shows only the faintest sings of normal wear, and again, really just needs a professional detail to appear almost as good as new once more!
The door panels have areas where the red has a bit of black marking on it that appears to be from body oil getting on it from using the armrests. I tried to wipe it off with a towel and it would not remove, but I bet a real detailer could get it clean in a jiffy.
Opening the hood reveals a clean and stock engine bay that has not been upgraded or modified from the factory.
The engine starts right up with the turn of the coded security key, and the car idles with a mellow rumble thanks to the BORLA performance muffler system on the car.
The automatic transmission with overdrive snicks into gear easily, and the car shifts through all speeds up or down with ease.
The overdrive really helps get the car up to cruising speed, and I am sure it is a boon to fuel economy as well!
The car drives so good you would think it was 1988 and you were on the market for a vette back then!
Ride, handling, braking, and performance are all well above average, and the car does not display any odd handling characteristics from 30 in the parking to to 95 on the freeway!
This car has been so lovingly stored and cared for, that the prior owner actually changed the fluids before I picked it up just to make sure the new owner had a starting point for the continued maintenance schedule!
The car comes to you with three sets of keys, owners manual packet, hardtop cover, a box of new spare parts and items that were passed along from the prior owner, and a clean, clear, and valid Florida title.
The title shows ACTUAL MILEAGE, and the prior title date of 09/26/2005 shows ACTUAL MILEAGE at 67,828.
I would not hesitate for a moment to fly in and drive this car home anywhere in the lower 48.
The car has been safety checked. All of the lights, wipers, horn, signals, etc. work as they should.
