Vehicle Detail
December 56/january 57 Vw panelvan worldwide shipping available (not included in price) Here's a very cool early original panelvan project built in the december 56 january 57 timeframe. It has minor dents and little bumps but overall pretty straight. Tailight holes and reflector holes are original never made bigger. Buses this early are very hard to find in any condition. This is a very solid example and even has the hard to find parts included. The pre 1959 built buses had these beautiful "pressed bumper's" that embody the 1949-1958 era. This bus is the early 57 american spec model still incorporating the very neat and often missing "bubble tailights and reflectors". Buses from 1955-early 1957 still used the old bubble tailights and brake light decklid. Often the original tailights are removed and larger universal tailights were fitted, this alot of times made necassary to cut the sheetmetal in the corners. This bus has always used the original version of tailights. Buses built in this "pressbumper" era are the most coveted by collectors of vintage vw buses. Consider the era these were built and just how disposable these were considered especially this early. There are many post 1958 buses in existance, very few pre 1958 examples left in existance. Each production year made more buses than the production year it followed. The pre 58 buses are incredibly hard to find in any condition. Anyone can find a post 58 bus and get it on the road. Owning a 49-early 57 "brakelight decklid" bus is entering the big leagues of vintage buses. The dash of this bus has been modified but its not quite as bad as it looks, its in good enough shape that a section from another bus could solve its problem and a 57 dash is included. The cabwall was cut out and it has some pretty neat seating. I can offer a correct seat pictured for $150 more including the mounting tabs. This bus is from eastern oregon and its pretty dry, frame is solid, rockers are spotty and the right lower front closing panel has some spots of rust. Floors look good in back from underneath, the front has crispy outer edges but nothing that stops you from using as is and fixing as you drive. The rear area has remnants of a camper interior. Original glass midsized early sekurit in all spots. Drivers front glass is cracked. There is no engine included at this price but a core 36 or 40 horse can come with for $200 more. This bus has never been lowered which is a really good attribute. While the lowered buses might look neat consider that any car or truck that has a loss of suspension travel simply sends more stress to the frame and body. Add 50 yrs and then the act of lowering translates to definate and inevitable fatigue. Often lowered buses get sold simply because they don't tend to handle better or as good as they did stock height. The front bumper is new steel reproduction, rear is original. Tailights are original nos 54-55 barndoor era lenses in 55-57 bulbholders/rings,they look great and have healthy patina. The reflectors are original dealer replacements. This would make a great bus to restore or drive like it is. Better yet logo it with your small business script and get noticed. The title is a clean unbranded nonsalvage oregon title in my name. I even went to the trouble to get the actual vin # correctly recorded. Often on the very early vw buses the vin # is recorded incorrectly. In oregon for instance the dealers were in charge of recording vin#s for the department of motor vehicles. Unfortunately for the dealers the vin was located BEHIND the engine on the right firewall. Not wanting to go all the way to look behind the engine most either recorded the body number stamped on the cabwall or even worse the engine. A misrecorded vin #isnt a big deal in most states but for overseas shipping you will definately want the correct number recorded, there is always a chance that the port inspector might know what they are doing. Keep this in mind when looking at buying an early vw bus, make sure the vin # on the title is indeed the # that is stamped in the engine bay. I have shipped many cars all over the world and never a bad experience. In fact I have several cars headed to the uk right now. Shipping to the uk or european port cost us $1700 on the last bus. I can link you or offer the phone # for several international shippers. I will also cooperate as best I can to help with shipping. Our shops are here on our family farm and there's very rarely a time that I'm not here working. The buy it now price is very low at $5800,consider most buses this early/comparable condition are in the $10,000-$50,000 range. This gives the buyer the oppurtunity to step up to to the big leauges at a low entry level price and do some work themselves to save big money. Please feel free to ask any questions. Always interested in trades for pre 1920 motorcycles any condition. I am selling off my early vw and porsche projects/parts collection and changing my direction completely. I have several rare/early vw buses and several early porsche cars and parts pre "a" thru t5 "b".
