This car is a "rescue" project that I have decided that I am not going to finish. I have just bought a house so I am choosing to give the house my time and my money. The prior registered owner of this car sold the car to a local repair shop in May 2007. It has sat there with an unknown fuel injection problem until I bought it from the shop, and before I decided to buy a house. I brought the car home, took the color-matched snowflake wheels to Sears and had them mount new Michelin Weatherwise tires. I then started putting things back together under the hood and troubleshooting the engine. After replacing both fuel pumps, fuel accumulator, fuel gage sending unit assembly, and fuel distributor, and fuel pump relay, I was able to get the engine to start. I put a can of STP Fuel Injector cleaner in the tank with some fresh gas and started driving it around. The engine, after all 4 injectors started working, then ran very strong for a VW 1.8L 8V engine. The more I drive it, the better it runs. However, more tweeking is probably needed to resolve idle and restart issues. I spent time putting the dash back together with a CD player that needs work along with some of the electrical features as I haven't been able to get the turn signals to work yet. The burgandy paint under the pealing clearcoat looks good and may be fine after compounding and waxing. The top has issues and should be replaced. I have a new white top with cables and hardware taken off a car I was trying to restore but had to part-out that can be made available with some post-auction negotiations. The headliner will need repair or replacement. The car does have a nice smooth ride on the new Michelins and the transmission shifts smoothly with a nice feel to the clutch. The mileage as shown in this listing is exactly what reads on the odometer. However, the odometer is not working so I do not know the actual mileage. This also appears as an issue in the CarFax vehicle report. This car is strictly being sold "as-is" with no warranty either expressed or implied.
